THURSDAY FAN FICTION REPORT - 5/22/97 [Previous report was for 5/21/97] Hey guys, Two of our favorite bards, M. Pappas and J. Covington (yeah, I know - sound familiar huh? You never know...) have just opened their own XWP fan fiction Web site. The site will make available both general and alt. fiction. Right now it is featuring their TERRIFIC alt. trilogy known as THE JOINING which includes ARES' GAME (reviewed 3/24/97), ESCAPADE and the recently completed SECRETS PAST (reviewed 5/7/97) - all of these are a definite must read! M. and J.'s main Web site is called THE SCROLL SOCIETY and is at: http://208.200.38.2:80/swordnstaff/ The XWP Fan Fiction page is at: http://208.200.38.2:80/swordnstaff/fan.htm We have some fantastic new stories tonight!! GENERAL FICTION: CELEBRATION (by Palomine) This story is *THE* episode I would love to see on TV as a follow-up to ORPHAN OF WAR - absolutely WONDERFUL, poignant tale that is going to grab on to your heart strings and NOT let go! Set four years after Xena's visit to the centaur village where she last saw the son she left there as a newborn long ago, this story has a teenage Solon now getting ready for his Virilis ceremony - a rite of passage that will mark his coming of age as a young man but that requires him to make some important decisions about his life. One person he very much wants present at this ceremony is the Warrior Princess who befriended him years before and whom he feels strangely drawn to. Hearing about the invitation and with Gabrielle's ever-present support, Xena then heads back to the centaur village for the fateful reunion with Solon - it is a reunion that will forevermore change the lives of mother and son as the warrior finds the opportunity to make a difference in the boy's life and a young man discovers through a bard's inspiration the hidden truth about himself that deep down he's always known about. This story is worth reading alone for the poem/song that is included near the end. Palomine has given us here one of those rare jewels of XWP fan fiction that you will remember for a long time. VERY HIGHLY RECOMMENDED!! http://www.xenafan.com/fiction XENA THE CONQUEROR (by Nutball) Nicely written story, still unfinished, which takes some liberties with Xena's childhood but offers some interesting possibilities as well. [Originally posted in the Xena NetForum] http://www.xenafan.com/fiction ALTERNATIVE FICTION: SPRING FESTIVAL (Dr. Bob) Dr. Bob is writting a series of XWP alt. stories that are simply FANTASTIC! The stories follow the development of the Xena/Gabby relationship as our two heroines go from one adventure to another. The writing here is top notch. Dr. Bob depicts a relationship between warrior and bard that is tender and slowly growing in intensity. His first story in the series was BEGINNINGS (reviewed 4/14/97). Now, in this newly released sequel, Xena takes Gabby to the colorful Spring Festival at Solanica where the Warrior Princess, and Gabrielle in particular, continue struggling with an attraction neither can ignore now but both still are to afraid to confront. http://www.xenafan.com/fiction CUPID'S ARROW (by BlackFox) VERY promising new story that has Aphrodite and Cupid wrecking havok with the lives of the Warrior Princess and her bard. Upset at Ares, the Goddess of Love decides to get even by having Xena and Gabrielle act on their love for one another. Cupid reluctantly agrees to help though he knows using his arrows on two people who are already in love can seriously backfire. His mother wants to expedite matters though so he follows orders and sure enough...things backfire! Two chapters so far. http://www.eve.net/~timwellman/altfic.html For those of you reading this post who are not familiar with the term alternative (alt.), it refers to ADULT stories that add a romantic element to the relationship between Xena and Gabby, depiciting them as more than just friends. Happy reading!
