THURSDAY FAN FICTION REPORT - 6/5/97

Hey guys,

Tonight I'd like to remind everyone that the SECOND NETFORUM BARD
CONTEST is officially under way now. All bards and aspiring bards are
encouraged to visit the contest Web site at:

Stories will start being posted in two weeks so START WRITING guys!
Prizes haven't been determined yet but I can guarantee that the winners
and all participants will have the ETERNAL gratitude and devotion
of us fan fiction addicts!! >:)

As for the report tonight, we have two GREAT new stories and lots
of updates.

GENERAL FICTION:

JOURNAL #3 by Gabrielle of Potidaea as translated by Shelley Sullivan.
The third entry in this FANTASTIC series is now available. Thanks to
the efforts of one VERY talented translator Shelley Sullivan, the
Journal of Gabrielle of Potidaea, bard extraordinaire, Amazon Queen
and friend of Xena the Warrior Princess, is now finally being made
public. The Journal exists in parts written in a series of ancient
parchments and follows the adventures of Gabrielle and the reformed
warlord from the time they first met. One of the nicest things about
this series is the glimpse it provides into the bard's mind and soul
as she travels with the Warrior Princess, learning and growing. This
latest installment, in particular, reveals a bard that is very much
in awe of her companion while remaining endearingly unaware of her
own uniqueness. We see the mischievous tenacity that will someday
turn the girl into an Amazon queen - worthy partner for the Warrior
Princess. Most of all, we continue to see a gentle soul leading
another out of darkness. Journal #3 covers the events depicted in
the TV episodes TITAN, PROMETHEUS and DEATH IN CHAINS. The JOURNAL
series was first reviewed 5/14/97 and is VERY HIGHLY RECOMMENDED!

THE EXCHANGE by Galloway
Chapter 15 of this story is now available. A must-read for Callisto
fans, this tale takes place right after the events of the episode A
NECESSARY EVIL and has the goddess Callisto black-mailing Xena into
helping her convince the Fates to change the events that led to the
burning of Cirrah and the creation of the blonde warlord. Gabrielle
is in this of course as is Ares, Artemis, Hercules and a slew of other
characters from the series. As is always the case when Callisto is
involved, there are some great mind games taking place. In this
latest chapter, Callisto, Xena and their allies prepare to battle
Velaska and Theodorus.

XENA THE CONQUEROR by Nutball
This tale is now available in it's entirety at Tom's site. Nutball
takes some liberties with the story of Xena's childhood but offers
some interesting possibilities also in a well-written effort marked
by a sense of poignancy in its depiction of the girl who will one
day become the feared Warrior Princess. [Originally posted in the

TIMES by Brant Forseng
Chapter 11 of this story is now available. This is a wild crossover
tale for XWP/X-Files fans that has Callisto wrecking mayhem in present-
day Savannah, Georgia while Mulder and Scully investigate. In this
latest entry, Scully feels decidedly frustrated at Mulder's uncharac-
teristic behavior toward the beautiful blonde warlord.

ALTERNATIVE FICTION:

THE MARRIAGE OF XENA AND GABRIELLE by DJ WP
This is a DELIGHTFUL story that is going to leave you grinning
from ear to ear! When a deadly opponent challenges Gabrielle for the
Amazon throne, the only solution if she is to stay alive is for
someone to champion her but in the Queen's case only her official
mate can be designated as champion. Never being one to let liiiiitle
things like this stop her, Xena immediately proposes to the bard after
which plans are soon under way for the joining ceremony. A concerned
Ephiny helps although she's certain the goddess Artemis will not
approve of the union and worse...that Xena and Gabrielle will never
be able to convince the Amazon nation that they're truly in love...
The characterization of Ephiny in this story is simply priceless! -
dense doesn't even come close!! Well-written and tons of FUN!!

MIND'S EYE by Lynka
Chapters 9-10 are now available. This story has Xena trying to protect
Gabrielle from a very frightening threat...but falling victim to a deadly
enemy herself. In these latest chapters, the bard seeks the help of the
gods to try to save her Warrior Princess. Previously reviewed 5/21/97.

For those of you reading this post who are not familiar with
the term alternative (alt.), it refers to ADULT stories that add
a romantic element to the relationship between Xena and Gabby,
depicting them as more than just friends.
