MONDAY FAN FICTION REPORT - 6/9/97

Hello people!

A quick announcement tonight on a very helpful new feature now 
available for all of us fan fic addicts.  The XWP FAN FICTION 
INDEX produced by Xenos is now listing stories by genre (adventure, 
drama, humor, mystery, romance and vignette).  Within these 
categories, the stories are further subdivided by type and length 
(short story, novella, parody, cross-over, etc.).  Kudos to Xenos 
for continuing to provide such an INVALUABLE service to all 
Xenites who enjoy fan fiction!!  Xenos' site is at:

GENERAL FICTION:

MISSING: HAVE YOU SEEN ME? by Allison
This is something we haven't seen much in the world of XWP fan 
fiction - an interactive story where the reader has some choice in 
what happens next.  The basic premise has Xena trying to save 
Gabrielle from a very dangerous situation.  How the story actually
evolves, however, is all up to YOU.  There are LOTS of guest 
appearances in this including Herc, Callisto, Autolycus, and
Salmoneous.  Different and fun.

ALTERNATIVE FICTION:

AT A DISTANCE by Melissa Good
Melissa Good established herself as a very promising writer with her 
first story A WARRIOR BY ANY OTHER NAME.  With this second offering 
she easily lives up to that promise giving us one of the best stories
written this year so far - a long, WONDERFUL tale that has a little 
bit of everything but that you'll remember above all for the beautiful,
lovng and tender relationship between warrior and bard.  The story
opens with Xena and Gabrielle relaxing after the events depicted in 
Missy's first tale. They are traveling on their own once again and 
have begun to further explore the growing feelings between them.  It 
is an exploration that will be put on hold suddenly when Gabrielle
has to return to the Amazons to deal with a dangerous power struggle,
while Xena goes to Amphipolis where she soon finds herself in a 
volatile situation of her own.  Separated, the two can no longer 
ignore what they feel for one another but every day they're apart the
danger grows worse until finally both realize they have no choice but 
to face that danger.  Suspense, action, humor - they're all in here 
but the romance is special and unforgettable.  Note that there is no 
graphic sex scenes in this story.  It is a tale the whole family can 
enjoy.  VERY, VERY HIGHLY RECOMMENDED!!  A Personal favorite!

COMING OUT by Joanna
Joanna has given us some wonderful parodies in the past but with THE 
INCIDENT and now this new one, she definitely "comes out" herself as 
a master parodist.  This hilarious little skit is clever beyond words 
with some of the funniest lines I've ever read in XWP fan fic.  It 
has the Warrior Princess and Gabrielle returning to Potidaea for a 
visit during which the bard plans to tell her family the truth about
her relationship with Xena.  Making things somewhat of a challenge, 
are the family's continued reverence of Gabby's late hubby and the 
neighbors' ever-present commentaries on all the going-ons.  The 
Potidaean CHORUS is the best thing to happen to XWP fan fic in a 
loooong time.  Brilliant! HIGHLY RECOMMENDED!!

THE GALA by L.N. James
A new one by arguably the most romantic bard in the Xenaverse who 
with this story just cements that reputation further.  Complete with 
dashing pirates, this story reads like a passionate fairy tale as it 
brings Xena and Gabrielle to a beautiful palace where a night of
mystery and romance awaits amidst the excitement of a costume gala.  
You'll be sighing for hours after reading this! ;-)

MORNING by Alex
Beautiful little vignette that has Xena waking up as usual before
her bard and then watching Gabrielle sleep as she recalls what her
mornings used to be like before the bard came into her life.  Nicely
written, tender story.

THOUGHTS by Blue
In an interesting stylistic choice that works very well, Blue has 
broken up this new story into three parts with the first told from 
Xena's perspective, the second from Gabrielle's, and the third told 
in third person.  We are made privy to the thoughts of these two 
women even before they find the courage to admit these to one another.
Well-written and quite passionate.  After this you will NEVER look at
cherries in quite the same way again! >:)

CAPTURED by Virginia Leonard
Having finished MUSINGS and NUPTIALS, Virginia brings us the first 
chapter in a very promising new story that has Xena and Gabrielle
meeting up with an old friend of the Warrior Princess - a roguish
thief with an eye for the ladies and a penchant for trouble.

WRATH OF THE GOD by Warrior Rep
This story by a welcomed new addition to the list of Xena bards, 
takes place immediately after the events in the episode A NECESSARY
EVIL.  Overwhelmed by the emotions that have surfaced after almost 
loosing one another, Xena and Gabrielle finally surrender to their 
feelings, unaware that back in the river of lava, two goddesses 
have emerged unscathed and more determined than ever to destroy 
the two companions.

IN THE DARK by Ella Quince
Naughty little tale which has our girls showing concern for each
others'...er..."health" while trapped in a cave... ;-)

For those of you reading this post who are not familiar with
the term alternative (alt.), it refers to ADULT stories that add
a romantic element to the relationship between Xena and Gabby,
depicting them as more than just friends.
