DEA EX MACHINA by D. Joan Leib -- [Alt]

DENY OR EMBRACE by D. Joan Leib -- [Alt]
Intriguing new story which finds the warrior and bard on a seemingly normal day enjoying the countryside when a terrifying vision brings them to a standstill. Determined to learn more about what may have sparked that vision the two decide to spend time at a nearby village where preparations for an annual ritual have come to a halt after an important part of that ritual turns up missing. Joan does a skillful job of building the sense of mystery in this. Solid writing in an original tale. - 31 pgs., 6/29/98

MIRTH IN HEAVEN by D. Joan Leib -- [Alt]
This is a WILD story which has Gabrielle suddenly waking up one morning a "different" person and feeling immediately terrified that a wish from her heart is responsible for the sudden "change". Determined to help the bard, Xena decides to visit an oracle suspecting that the gods are at work but unaware of the unlikely alliance that has formed between immortals as two of the Olympians struggle to keep them safe from an enemy vent on destroying the warrior and her afflicted companion. - 34 pgs., 7/25/97

THEODICY by D. Joan Leib -- [Alt]
Set after BETRAYAL - THE DEBT II, this sequel to APOTHEOSIS presents a very tense situation between Xena and Gabrielle just as they receive a summons from the Amazon Nation requesting the bard's presence. Aware of her responsibilities, Gabrielle prepares herself to try to deal with the problems of the Amazons, all the while wondering if her relationship with the warrior has been irreparably damaged. An emotional, well-written story with a satisfying treatment of some of the problems presented in the rift. [See the sequel AETHEOGAMY] - 174 pgs., 1/21/98
