ALL IN A YEAR'S WORK: SPRING by L. Fox -- [Alt]
An epic story for those of you who enjoy those big battle sagas, L. Fox's latest reunites Xena and Gabrielle with their friend Darinius from CAGE OF ELYSIS and one of my favorite tales A BARD'S FAITH in a monumental struggle against a vengeful warlord with a massive army. L. Fox does a great job of building the suspense in anticipation of the climactic conflict. [This is a sequel of sorts to the story BELOVED ENEMY] -- 136 pgs., 8/23/98

ALL IN A YEAR'S WORK: WINTER by L. Fox -- [Alt]
An entertaining collection of stories transcribed by a biographer of Gabrielle of Poteidaia and featuring the bard's recollections of some of her most memorable adventures with Xena: Warrior Princess. In SOLSTICE EVE she remembers one of the many times her warrior defended her. This is followed by two very different hurt/comfort tales THE FEVER and SPLISH SPLASH, I WAS TAKIN' A BATH. The first has a delirious Xena recalling some of the most violent events from her past, while in the second an unconscious Gabrielle is gifted with the opportunity to see the future of two souls fated to never be far apart. In THE BLOOD STONE a friend is up to his old tricks again while in THE LAST COMPETITION a certain warrior reveals perhaps one of her most surprising skills. Finally Gabrielle shares the story of THESPUS AND HORATIO, a couple of very unusual warriors she and Xena once helped on their quest to locate a legendary ring of power. Told from Gabrielle's perspective, these tales all have a refreshing slice-of-life feel to them. Sometimes funny, sometimes suspenseful and always revealing of the deep love between the Bard of Poteidaia and her beloved warrior, this collection of stories will have you both grinning and feeling a terrific sense of poignancy. Nice work. -- 104 pgs., 8/23/98

**BARD'S FAITH (A) by L. Fox -- [Alt]
This story is a follow-up of sorts to L. Fox's other very good story CAGE OF ELYSIS which ideally should be read before tackling A BARD'S FAITH. In this WONDERFUL new tale, Ares puts in motion a spiteful plan to break up Xena and Gabrielle. What he doesn't understand, could NEVER understand, is the depth of commitment, friendship and love a certain bard feels for her Warrior Princess. This is a BEAUTIFUL, heartwarming story that has Xena and Gab facing the most desperate of situations together, learning just how much they mean to one another and discovering also how special old friends can be. This is an ALTERNATIVE story but it is NOT explicit. VERY HIGHLY RECOMMENDED! NOT TO BE MISSED!! [See also the sequel BELOVED ENEMY] - 41 pgs., 4/8/97

BELOVED ENEMY by L. Fox -- [Alt]
L. Fox continues the story begun in CAGE OF ELYSIS and A BARD'S FAITH with this new effort which begins with a very happy Xena and Gabrielle making plans for the bard to visit her family. That happiness will soon be destroyed, however, when Xena suddenly finds herself without her bard and without hope - determined only to bring her pain to an end, even if in so doing she has to destroy friend and foe. [See the follow-up story ALL IN A YEAR'S WORK: SPRING] - 48 pgs., 5/18/97

BLOOD STONE (THE) by L. Fox - see ALL IN A YEAR'S WORK: WINTER

**BLOOD TIES by L. Fox -- [Alt]
This talented writer returns with a wonderfully original story set some ten years after Xena and Gabrielle have abandoned their life on the road. Older but none the worse for wear, the warrior and bard are together and happy, leading a quieter life with Xena now making a living as a different type of "problem solver". Before long though some of the warrior's old skills will be called for when she learns that her niece is missing and a war may erupt at any minute as a result. The characterizations in this tale are very richly drawn presenting older versions of Xena and Gabrielle that are realistic and quite endearing. L. Fox easily recaptures the love and tenderness he imbued into the Xena/Gab relationship in stories like A BARD'S FAITH and LAST REFLECTIONS OF A HEART MOST PURE. With some poignant moments, this is a nicely conceived story that will also have you occasionally grinning and comes HIGHLY RECOMMENDED!! - 60 pgs., 11/30/97

CAGE OF ELYSIS by L. Fox -- [Alt]
A wild crossover story that has Xena and Gabby joining forces with Iolus, Autolycus (King of Thieves) and a warrior who was once among Xena's greatest opponents to try to free Hercules from the clutches of a dangerous woman vent on turning the son of Zeus into a mindless slave. This tale is long and also features appearances by Salmoneous and Joxer (well, no story is perfect! ;-) This is an alt. story but there is nothing explicit in it. It reads almost like a two-hour TV episode. [The story continues in A BARD'S FAITH] - 72 pgs., 3/97.

DEBORAH by L. Fox
A fateful shipwreck leads Xena and Gabrielle to the Land of the Israelites and a reunion for the Warrior Princess with an old friend now very much in need of her help. Featuring some good action-adventure and some emotional moments, this one reads very much like an episode from the TV series. - 24 pgs., 11/28/98

ETERNAL WARRIOR by L. Fox
Very different XWP story set in the middle of a battle between the U.S. Marines and the Japanese during World War II where Sergeant Mike Powers is struggling to survive, struggling to help his men survive. Amidst the hell of war, Mike's soul is strengthened by the visions of a mysterious warrior woman and her fair-haired companion - an ancient warrior who becomes his spiritual mentor even as her gentle companion foreshadows the direction his heart will take when like them he too can finally escape the horror of war. Original and very well-written. - 5 pgs., 6/21/97

FAVOR (THE) by L. Fox -- [Alt]
After sharing with us several excellent stories featuring the warrior and her bard, L. Fox now brings us his first ever Janice/Mel story set just prior to the United States' entrance into World War II. The tale has the spunky archeologist and her beautiful partner accepting a dangerous mission that will take them into the heart of the South Pacific in search of the truth behind a mysterious legend - a legend that others also are investigating and that could very well determine the fate of the world. L. Fox does a wonderful job here of incorporating actual events and historical figures, lending an air of authenticity to the storyline. Revolving around the developing relationship between the two friends, this is an original story and a very entertaining read. [See also the sequel JANICE AND MEL: THE WAR YEARS] - 51 pgs., 1/4/98

FEVER_(THE) by L. Fox - see ALL IN A YEAR'S WORK: WINTER

IT TAKES A THIEF...AND A COUPLE OF SIDEKICKS by L.Fox -- [Alt]
Very nice new story that proves sidekicks and thieves can be heros too! When Xena is called away on a mission, Gabrielle goes to a nearby village to wait for her at a colorful bazaar. There she soon joins up with Iolus on his way to see an old friend. What neither suspects is that Iolus' friend has gotten into VERY deep trouble after uncovering a deadly plot to reawaken a beast even Zeus could not defeat. The power to do rests in precious stones known as the dragon's eyes - stones which have attracted the interest of another old acquaintance of the bard and Iolus - the King of Thieves himself - Autolycus. Together the master thief and the two sidekicks set out to try to stop the plot to unleash the dragon - knowing that with Xena and Hercules occupied elsewhere, the fate of the world rests in their hands. This story has a sense of comradeship among the trio that really works and for once places the bard smack in the limelight :) - 34 pgs., 7/19/97

IT'S AN ILL WIND OR CAUGHT IN A DRAFT by L. Fox
This piece is sort of like Xena meets GI JANE...or rather Gabrielle does when she's mistaken for a G-A-B-R-I-E-L and drafted into the Poteidaian army ;-) Some very funny moments in this including a psychological test that will have you grinning from ear to ear. [Note: the story contains subtext] - 10 pgs., 3/26/98

IT'S HARD TO BE A BARD by L. Fox
For all of you out there who thought being a Xena bard was a glamorous job, comes at long last the painful truth from one of the veterans in the business. We are made privy to the abuse this poor bard must endure as he attempts to write his latest fanfic masterpiece while dealing with cranky webmasters, marketing temptations, those ever supportive readers, and a little-known nuisance called...real life ;-) An expose extraordinaire that needs to go on every Xenite's MUST READ list! Oh and L...that reviewing kit...much too expensive... got it WAY cheaper myself. I'll e-mail yah ;-) Now...lemme see...where's that dart?...DO NOT MISS!! - 7 pgs., 1/28/99

**JANICE AND MEL: THE WAR YEARS - 1942: TRAITORS IN OUR MIDST by L. Fox -- [Alt]
L. Fox's latest is a fantastic action-adventure with plenty of suspense, some fun moments and a depiction of the Mel/Janice relationship that is tender and very endearing. Acting as a sequel to THE FAVOR, the story begins with the spunky archeologist and her beautiful partner home buying in Anapolis where they have decided to stay while awaiting further orders from their new employer - the Office of Strategic Services which in years to come would become known simply as the OSS. They have just begun to settle down when those first orders finally arrive sending them on a mission into the jungles of Central America that will once again pit them against the greatest evil of their day and reawaken the spirit of a warrior centuries old. Carefully researched, this story is an absolute treat for any history buff as L. Fox weaves actual historical events into his own tale giving it a wonderful sense of authenticity. L. Fox's characterizations are well-drawn with his insecure Mel being particularly fun to see when she goes into Xena- mode. A great read which should particularly delight Mel/Janice fans but will entertain any Xenite as well. HIGHLY RECOMMENDED! - 80 pgs, 3/22/98

LAST COMPETITION (THE) by L. Fox - see ALL IN A YEAR'S WORK: WINTER

**LAST REFLECTIONS OF A HEART MOST PURE L. Fox -- [Alt]

**MISTRESS OF THE TWO LANDS by L. Fox - [Alt]
This veteran bard returns with a splendid new adventure for the warrior and bard as they embark on a long trek to the land of Egypt and a fateful meeting with its legendary ruler - the indomitable queen history would come to know as the pharaoh Hatshepsut. Excited at the prospect of seeing the exotic land, Gabrielle is thrilled when the King of Cyprus entrusts Xena with a diplomatic mission to the court in Thebes but it's a mission that will get infinitely more complicated when the powerful Egyptian ruler decides to include the Warrior Princess in some plans of her own - plans which if successful will solidify Hatshepsut's hold on the throne and possibly decimate age-old misconceptions the pharaoh is determined to do away with. L. Fox does a terrific job here of merging history with fiction taking known facts about Hatshepsut' unprecedented reign, adding one brilliant Warrior Princess, a gutsy little bard, some court intrigue, the splendor of Ancient Egypt and even the surprise appearance of a certain archeologist to create a fabulous read. Particularly appealing is the story's treatment of the Xena/Gab relationship which is reminiscent of the early dynamics between our two heroines showing one very deadly ex-warlord totally smitten with the gentle soul who loves her unconditionally. HIGHLY RECOMMENDED! [Note: the historical Hatshepsut was a fascinating figure - there's a TV series called THE GREAT EGYPTIANS, showing on the DISCOVERY CIVILIZATION channel which has an episode dedicated to her. It's called "The Queen Who Would Be King". If the series is shown in your area make sure to catch that episode.] - 95 pgs., 10/20/99

SCRAPS: GHOSTS, GABBY, AND GOOD-BYES by L. Fox -- [Alt]
A little tale about spectres and bards, choices and sad farewells that finds Gabrielle anxious to reunite with her partner after a short separation when a mysterious figure appears on the road she's on with a cryptic warning about what lies ahead... L. Fox includes at the end the story two WONDERFUL poetic tributes to our heroines which are a MUST READ in themselves. DO NOT MISS! - 9 pgs., 4/9/99
