**AEGIS (THE) by Rachel2 -- [Alt]
After a hiatus of several months, Rachel2 is back on the Web and she returns with a FANTASTIC new Mel/Janice story. Rachel2 has been among my favorite bards since she began writing - showing incredible originality in her stories and the ability to weave tales that truly captivate. In the THE AEGIS she displays these skills quite handily, bringing us a new and wonderfully clever treatment of the Mel and Janice characters and of their relationship in a story that also features Xena and Gabrielle, tons of action, humor, suspense, a touching romance and the beginnings of an undying friendship. In the first two chapters which are now available the legend of The Aegis is revealed - Zeus' great shield, strong enough to stop even a thunderbolt from the King of the Gods himself and as such coveted by those seeking power...and revenge. In Ancient Greece, Xena and Gabrielle become reluctant pawns in a deadly game between immortals for the right to wield the shield. It is a game that will bring them face to face with an old enemy while forcing them also to confront unresolved issues still between them. Eons later, in a time beset by a terrible war and ripe with danger, Mel and Janice will continue the struggle their ancestors began as they search for the mythical shield and also have to confront unresolved issues between them. Exceedingly well-written, this tale offers a really unique approach to the combined portrayals of Mel/Janice and Xena/Gabrielle. This is a tale that holds a lesson for us all and which I VERY HIGHLY RECOMMEND!! [Do not miss the sequel TERROR IN THE AMAZON] - 69 pgs., 7/29/97

**DEMON (THE) by Rachel2
Xena and Gab meet the monster from THE PREDATOR. A scary, thrilling piece with some of the best written action scenes I've read. HIGHLY RECOMMENDED!! [NOTE: Rachel2's stories build on one another so I recommend you read them in this order: THE DEMON, RIVALS (this one is listed in the Alternative reviews list), A WARLORD'S LEGACY, and THE PRINCESS BARD (also listed in the Alternative reviews list)] - 11 pgs., 12/96

FURTHER ADVENTURES OF JANICE AND MEL SERIES (THE) - Two different authors have written stories using this series designation. The stories by Rachel2 are all alternative fiction and listed below. **HOUSE ON REDMEN'S HILL by Rachel2 -- [Alt]

**HOUSE ON REDMEN'S HILL by Rachel2 -- [Alt]
This is the third installment in Rachel2's outstanding Mel/Janice series which began with THE AEGIS and then continued in TERROR IN THE AMAZON. In this new offering the spunky archeologist and her partner are headed for a well-deserved vacation in New England but as usual, with the penchant these two have for finding trouble, it isn't long before the vacation has turned just a taaaaaad more exiting than they were counting on. The warning bells first go off when instead of a quaint New England cottage - the two find themselves lodging in a mansion - a somewhat spooky abode which soon has Janice wondering if she hasn't gotten hit on the head just one too many times ;-) With dangers both real and imagined surrounding them, the two women nevertheless have more immediate concerns as their relationship continues to grow and deepen revealing possibilities neither had dreamed off before. Rachel2 gives a marvelous treatment to this relationship in the series, taking it from the point of platonic friends to the discovery of something more and culminating in an acceptance of just what they mean to one another in this latest story. The story is intriguing, funny at times, sweet, romantic and TIMELY considering that this week IS Halloween and parts of this are definitely SPOOKY! A wonderful read, this is VERY HIGHLY RECOMMENDED! - 61 pgs., 10/27/97

**PRINCESS BARD (THE) by Rachel2 -- [Alt]  Save Alert
A departure for Rachel2, this story is a takeoff on a popular movie - it has Gabby returning to the Amazons where she must go on an official mission as their Princess. You aren't human if parts of this don't make you double over in laughter. [See note regarding Rachel2's stories under THE DEMON in the general fan fiction reviews] - 24 pgs., 3/97

**RIVALS by Rachel2 -- [Alt]
Xena and Gabrielle are aided by a female warrior on a mission to save a kidnapped princess. In the course of this mission the two are force to confront the growing feelings they have for one another. A wonderful story which centers around the changes occuring in the Xena/Gab relationship. VERY HIGHLY RECOMMENDED!! **TERROR IN THE AMAZON by Rachel2 -- [Alt]  Save Alert
Rachel2's second Mel/Janice story after THE AEGIS continues the level of excellence this bard established long ago with her first forays into XWP fan fiction. WONDERFULLY original, suspenseful and emotional, this story takes the archeologist and her partner to the wilds of the Amazon where a fantastic discovery has been made. Unfortunately, one liiiiiitle problem keeps stalling things at the dig - workers are dying left and right and the natives fear a curse is at work. Amidst those challenges, stand the ones of the heart as Janice struggles against feelings she fears will only leave her broken-hearted and Mel finds herself embracing ones she's never had before. Rachel2 is known for her very careful characterizations and the thoughtful treatments she gives to the relationship between her characters. Her stories are consistently excellent reads and this one in particular is VERY HIGHLY RECOMMENDED!! [See also the sequel HOUSE ON REDMEN'S HILL] - 43 pgs., 8/28/97

**WARLORD'S LEGACY (A) by Rachel2
This is one of my all-time favorite XWP stories - a fantastically well-written, sobbering look at the reality of war and violence. Xena and Gabrielle try to help a village Xena once decimated from getting attacked once more. Meanwhile they must deal with the hatred of the victims Xena left behind there and with the pain of a young bard having to come to terms with the realities of her hero's past. MUST READ! VERY HIGHLY RECOMMENDED!! [See note under THE DEMON about Rachel2's stories] - 40 pgs., 1996.
