WREATH

(November 2000) Most of us who have been active in this fandom for any length of time remember moments that were special to us. For me, one stands out from the early days of my participation in the Xenaverse. Back in 1996 I was active on the NetForum where I first got a taste for Xena fanfic. I was mostly reading the stories posted there but I had also started to visit some of the Xena fanfic sites. One evening, while perusing Tom's Xena Page, I came across a story that simply blew me away. I promptly went back to the NetForum where a couple of us started telling fellow fans about the story. It was one of those tales that is simply SO well-written, SO entertaining, SO moving that you just HAVE to tell people about it. It was one of the things that motivated me to start writing my fan fiction reports just so I could make sure that other people got to read fiction THIS extraordinary. The title of that story was ALL THROUGH THE NIGHT and the author was Rebekah. It was with great sorrow, then, that I learned just a few days ago of the passing of this very talented Xenite after a short illness. Rebekah went on after that ground breaking first story to share with us a number of other excellent tales, helping to elevate Xena fanfic to a level above the rest. Many of the major bards in the Xenaverse today have noted the influence she had on their own writing. I had the great pleasure of becoming Rebekah's friend via e-mail and actually meeting her in person at one of the conventions. Her intelligence, wit, generosity of spirit and talent always impressed me. The Xenaverse and I are so much better for having had this lady grace us with her presence.

On behalf of fanfic readers everywhere, I would like to extend our condolences to her friends and family and to assure them that through her stories Rebekah left us a legacy which has earned her the lasting gratitude of thousands of Xenites and which guarantees her place amidst the finest bards this fandom has ever produced.

Go in peace my friend into that next adventure...

**ALL THROUGH THE NIGHT by Rebekah
This masterpiece is the favorite of many a Xenite. When it was first released in December 1996 it made Xenaverse history, truly elevating the quality of XWP fan fiction to a new level. Known to have influenced some of the best bards writing today, talents like WordWarior, Wishes, and Anon among others, this is an incredibly emotional hurt/comfort tale that explores the dynamics of Xena and Gabrielle's friendship. EVERY fan fiction reader NEEDS to read this. It receives my HIGHEST RECOMMENDATION! [Note: the story is the first part in a larger epic Rebekah planned to write called NOR THE BATTLE TO THE STRONG] - 45 pgs., 12/1996, re-released 5/13/97 and 12/3/99

ALMOST HOME by Rebekah
From the author of the classic ALL THROUGH THE NIGHT comes this new Solstice story set right after the events in BETRAYAL - THE DEBT pt.2 which has Xena and the bard talking over a campfire as they head back to Greece. This is an emotional, well-written piece with a realistic approach to the challenge now facing Xena and Gabrielle's friendship. - 6 pgs., 12/25/97, re-released 12/3/99

**NO DOUBT by Rebekah
From the writer of the now classic ALL THROUGH THE NIGHT comes an extraordinary new story that is a MUST READ for every Xenite out there who loves these characters and has anguished over the recent challenges they've been facing in the third season. Set immediately after the events in the episode BETRAYAL - DEBT II, the story begins with a weakened Xena being helped out of the ruins of Ming T'Ien's throne room by a bard who is herself nursing injuries both to her body and her soul. Guilt-ridden, Gabrielle tries to concentrate on helping the warrior and the other released prisoners. All the while Xena is sensing the bard's despair and searching for a way to once again solidify the friendship they both value above all else. This is a hurt/comfort story that encompasses injuries both physical and spiritual. Rebekah's treatment of the Xena/Gab relationship is incredibly effective, revealing an understanding of the characters that is insightful, sensitive and powerful. Beautifully written, this is a story that will make you "feel" for these two friends in a way that surpasses even what the TV series can inspire. A marvelous gift for us all that receives my HIGHEST RECOMMENDATION!!! - 51 pgs., 1/28/98, re-released 12/3/99

WHATEVER IT TAKES by Rebekah
An epilogue to the episode A NECESSARY EVIL which offers an intriguing depiction of the Warrior Princess. Rebekah's Xena in this story is very much on the money I think - as true to the character as anything we've seen in either fan fiction or the TV series. The story has Gabrielle trying to understand her friend's sudden ruthlessness and Xena being painfully honest about who she is, what drives her, and what she is capable of when cornered. - 6 pgs., 5/13/97, re-released 12/3/99
