WEDNESDAY FAN FICTION REPORT - 10/1/97
[Previous report was for 9/29/97]
Hi guys,
I don't usually mention poetry in the report but tonight I want to bring attention to a new poem by Wishes which I find stunningly eloquent and sensual. It can be viewed as a XWP poem or not but remains powerful regardless. Make SURE to check out THE BO
DY REMEMBERS at:

Here is tonight's fiction guys - a TRULY amazing collection of new stories and updates.
GENERAL FICTION:
THE LION OF AMPHIPOLIS by Yellowjacket
A WONDERFUL new treat from one of my favorite bards - this one featuring Mel and Janice in a grand adventure guaranteed to make you laugh, cry and believe in the power of a legendary friendship. The story traces the lives of Mel and Janice, in parts throu
gh flashbacks, from the moment they first meet to the years immediately following the war when they settle in Greece to resume Janice's search for the one thing she yearns to find more than any other - the final resting place of Xena, the Warrior Princess
of Amphipolis. To aid in this search, the spunky archeologist and her partner set out to recover stolen ancient tablets containing a description of the mysterious
ceremony used long ago to invoke the prophetic power at the Oracle of Delphi. Hoping the Oracle can point the way to their ancestors, Mel and Janice will risk it all to recover those tablets culminating in a deeply emotional ending which can only be desc
ribed as unforgettable. This is exceptionally well-written with a terrific take on the Mel/Janice friend-
ship. VERY HIGHLY RECOMMENDED!!

THE BABYSITTER by WordWarior
An absolute GEM from the keyboard of this exceptional writer, THE BABYSITTER is a story for the entire family which will likely warm your heart as few tales ever have. Set at the time of the harvest festival in Amphipolis some years before the infamous a
ttack by Cortese, it has a thirteen-year old Xena feeling VERY frustrated when instead of being allowed to join her friends, she's forced into babysitting duty by her mother. Reluctantly, the teenager soon finds herself taking care of the visiting couple
's precocious five-year old - a little girl with an uncanny ability to worm her way into the babysitter's heart. Funny and very sweet, the story also has a startling poignancy to it in light of the events we know will soon change the life of this thirtee
n year old forever... WordWarior has shown before in stories like THE CHILD and WHEN XENA CAME TO TOWN (both reviewed at http:/xenite.
simplenet.com/lunacy/alt.htm) an extraordinary talent for portraying
children. It is once more clearly evident in this tale. VERY HIGHLY RECOMMENDED!!

ALTERNATIVE FICTION:
THE PERSONALS by Bongo Bear
*Priceless* is the word that comes to mind about this brief new offering from a VERY clever bard ;-) Janice and Mel translate some ancient personal adds a certain warrior and bard posted over the years... Adorable!

TARTARUS by M. Parnell
Chapters 9-11 of this story are now available. After the masterpiece that is ORIGINS (reviewed 8/18/97) I didn't think M. Parnell could possibly top that effort anytime soon. Well, with the release of the first eight chapters of TARTARUS, this bard may
be well on her way to doing just that. Starting where ORIGINS left off, this story has Xena and Gabrielle getting reacquainted with life on the road after the emotionally draining months they've just experienced. Enjoying a new depth to their relationsh
ip, they are nevertheless allowed little time to explore this before once again they find themselves in the middle of a tragedy - trying to help the survivors of an earthquake - in a village located not far from where Xena once let her army loose. The W
arrior Princess helps knowing that she will likely be brought to justice for those crimes, knowing too what the punishment is
likely to be, but never suspecting that a gentle heart will be caught in that quest for justice, determined to share her fate...no matter what that may be. In these latest chapters Xena and Gabrielle search for a way to survive and make a new life for th
emselves as the extent of the challenge facing them becomes clearer. As with Parnell's other stories, this is writing at its best and storytelling at its most captivating. Parnell's stories feature one of the most intelligent characterizations of the Wa
rrior Princess in fan fiction. It is fascinating to see how Xena's mind works under the pen of this bard. ORIGINS took the Xena/Gabrielle relationship to a new level which this story has now begun to examine more fully. It is a subtle exploration which
nevertheless depicts great love and great passion.
We have a heck of a story to look forward to in the coming months folks. VERY HIGHLY RECOMMENDED!!

BOUND by Missy Good
Parts 9-10 of this story are now available and with them comes the triumphant
conclusion of Missy's fourth XWP fan fic novel. BOUND picks up where
HOME IS WHERE THE HEART IS ended - having left
Potidaea behind, Xena and Gabrielle decide to go back to the land of the
forest dwellers they first met in A WARRIOR BY ANY OTHER NAME.
They want to see their friend Jessan but there is something else drawing
them back to those unusual people - a need now to understand the strange
bond some of the forest dwellers share with each other - a connection
they call the lifebond - a connection Xena and Gabrielle now know they
also share but need to understand. In these final parts, having brought
peace to the forest dwellers, the warrior and bard are touched by shadows
from an ancient past as they uncover the story of two other women who also
faced incredible challenges and against the odds found a timeless love.
The search for the truth about these two friends will prompt Xena and
Gabrielle to face some of their own fears and to at last celebrate the
lifebond they have found in each other. This tale is of the same caliber
as all of Missy's stories to date featuring exceptional characterizations,
a captivating and well-structured plot, an incredibly romantic treatment
of the Xena/Gab relationship that manages through flashbacks to even
explore the earlier stages of that relationship, and the return appearance
of one of the most beloved original characters in XWP fan fiction - Ares
the wolf pup (Roo!! :) A Missy story is a magical experience NOT TO BE
MISSED people! Note - this story is not explicit. BOUND merits my HIGHEST
RECOMMENDATION!!

For those of you reading this post who are not familiar with the term alternative (alt.), it refers to ADULT stories that add a romantic element to the relationship between Xena and Gabby, depicting them as more than just friends.
Happy reading!
