SEARCH by a href="https://lunacyreviews.ausxip.com/Rooks.shtm.htm">Rooks - [Alt, M/J]
This is the latest in a growing trend of very original, highly entertaining new uber-Xena stories we've been seeing lately. Rooks' latest is set in modern-day Canada where Engineering student Denise Alexander is busy working on her degree but not feeling very happy with the way her life is going. She dreams of traveling like her beloved Aunt Janice has done with her partner Mel - both now in their eighties. She wonders at the lonely existence she's been living and finds herself yearning for more. Then one day a mysterious young woman moves into her apartment building - a tall stranger with pale blue eyes who seems as lonely as she is. Despite the odds, the two will find themselves drawn to one another by a connection neither understands as the legacy of an ancient warrior and her bard once again works to bring soulmates together. This is very nicely written with some truly heartfelt kleenex moments and rather original uber renditions. DO NOT MISS!! [Note: Story is not explicit, see the sequel DISCOVERY] - 5/31/98

**SEARCH FOR AMPHIPOLIS (THE) by a href="https://lunacyreviews.ausxip.com/Bat_Morda.shtm.htm">Bat Morda - [Alt, M/J]
With her award-winning story IS THERE A DOCTOR ON THE DIG Bat made history, bringing us the first fan fiction tale to feature the characters of Mel Pappas and Janice Covington from the episode XENA SCROLLS. A fantastic combination of humor, drama, adventure and romance which also featured appearances by and flashbacks of our heroines' Greek ancestors, ITADOTD has managed to capture the hearts of readers as few other stories have done and in so doing has inspired many other Mel/Janice stories, contributing greatly to the growing mythology associated with these two characters. Appearing in only one episode of the series to date, the Mel and Janice many readers know are more a product of the fan fiction than the show, with Bat's now classic story being perhaps the most influential in the perception viewers have of these characters. Now, at last we have available one of the most eagerly anticipated sequels in XWP fan fiction - THE SEARCH FOR AMPHIPOLIS continues the story of the spunky archeologist and her Southern Belle of a partner as they once again embark on another wild quest, this one to recover the bones of their ancestors and hopefully put a warrior and her bard forever beyond the reach of the dark forces still threatening them. The story features an unprecedented cast of characters, including another famous archeologist from the 1940's, a group of very dedicated descendants of some of Xena and Gabrielle's closest friends, and even a few names from the Xenaverse readers may recognize ;-) The relationship between Mel and Janice in this story has deepened and grown making for a truly beautiful romance. In addition to their tale, Bat also writes about a difficult time in the lives of Xena and Gabrielle - a time that challenged their love and their friendship as it had never been challenged before. TSFA is a remarkably entertaining and well-written story, a worthy sequel to ITADOTD which further assures Mel and Janice's standing as premier players in the continuing legend of XENA: WARRIOR PRINCESS. Note: the story at Dax's OBSESSION site includes perhaps the first ever publicly released picture of Batsky playing her guitar. This tale is NOT to be missed folks - it carries my HIGHEST RECOMMENDATION!! [See also the sequel UBERMADNESS] - 8/13/97

SECOND CHANCES by a href="https://lunacyreviews.ausxip.com/Stoley.shtm.htm">Stoley - [Alt]
Intense new contemporary uber-Xena story that has private eye Sydney Wright faking her own death to try to confuse the mobster trying to kill her - only a small, redheaded wrench is thrown into her plans when her estranged ex-partner Sam comes into the picture - regretting very much the circumstances that once pulled them apart and determined now to help the detective at any cost. Nicely written with some suspenseful moments. - 8/8/98

SECRETS OF THE HOARY DEEP (THE) by a href="https://lunacyreviews.ausxip.com/de_Bonheur.shtm.htm">de Bonheur - [Alt]
This FANTASTIC follow up to de Bonheur's AND FAIR TRUTH is an uber-Xena story set in post-WWI France where a young aristocrat named Michelle Destin finds herself in the middle of an intriguing mystery involving a very old painting...and the enigmatic woman that soon comes into her life. Meanwhile, in Elysia a certain warrior and bard enjoy the happiness they earned long ago, thinking of the life they made together, but wanting also to help the living children of their blood find that happiness. Still unfinished, this story is wonderfully promising. De Bonheur does an excellent job presenting the aristocratic element of post-WWI Parisian society. Meanwhile, as in her previous stories, the Xena/Gab relationship is depicted with great care, great passion and great tenderness. Still unfinished this story is already a fine read. DO NOT MISS! [unfinished] - 2/7/98

**SHELL GAME by a href="https://lunacyreviews.ausxip.com/M_Ryan.shtm.htm">M. Ryan - [Alt]
A sequel to one of last year's most popular novels THE DEAL, this very promising new offering from M. Ryan continues the story of news anchor Chris Hanson and her partner Laura Kasdan - general station manager and golf-pro in the making. As the story opens not much seems to have changed. Chris Hanson is doing a story and as usual - a small disaster ensues. In reality though, a lot of changes await the two women. Laura is having a challenging time getting used to the demands of her new position and trying to balance those with her aspirations on the golf circuit. Chris is having to weigh her love of reporting against her ambitions as news anchor. Most problematic of all - the two are having to juggle their personal lives with the professional ones - falling more in love with one another with every passing day and yet becoming increasingly aware of what a fine line they're walking in a business where one misstep can destroy careers. M. Ryan is continuing to develop here a very compelling relationship between two beautifully drawn characters. Just as fascinating is the backdrop against which this drama unfolds. Familiar with the world of TV journalism, M. Ryan delivers a sophisticated, intelligent story that draws us into this often frenetic, highly competitive environment. Definitely one to watch in the weeks ahead. HIGHLY RECOMMENDED! [unfinished] - 25 pgs., 6/15/00

SHIP WHO REMEMBERED (THE) by a href="https://lunacyreviews.ausxip.com/Quest.shtm.htm">Quest - [Alt]
Very unusual Uber-Xena story set aboard a starship in the distant future that has Dr. Sarah Gabriel, a cybernetics specialist, struggling to save the life of Rebekha Thomas, the lone survivor of a colony viciously attacked by pirates who now must surrender the life she knew and embrace another one as part woman, part machine in order to see justice done. This story should particularly appeal to fans of science fiction. [See the sequel THE SHIP WHO REMEMBERED II] - 8/10/97

**SILENT LEGACY by a href="https://lunacyreviews.ausxip.com/Llachlan.shtm.htm">Kieran Llachlan Leavitt - [Alt]
[Story previously titled TENDER IS THE NIGHT]
Llachlan has been delivering some first class fanfic for a while now but with this new uber story this bard is well on her way to outdoing herself. Part of that new second generation fanfic that incorporates elements of OTHER Xena fanfic, Llach's latest is initially set in Tinseltown where second unit director Jae Cavanaugh gets the shock of her life when the death of her mentor suddenly propels her into a very unexpected opportunity as the lead director of a major Hollywood film called "Balance of Power". It's an opportunity filled with difficult challenges as the production is already racked with problems not the least of which is having a lead known among her peers as the Amazon Ice Queen. A fiercely private actress with an infamous temper and little tolerance for incompetence, Reed Lewis has a lot more on her mind than the problems with the film but having experienced a series of recent setbacks she knows this is her last shot at reviving a dwindling career. Amidst this fast-paced world of movie-making excitement, Hollywood deals, long hours, hard work and compromises, these two very different women come together to create a film and in the process discover a bond, undeniable and sweet which begins drawing their souls together despite the odds and which before their work is complete will have tested them like nothing or no one before. Llach presents us here with richly drawn characterizations of two very complex, fascinating and wonderfully appealing leads. Both the relationship and the surrounding story are fleshed out carefully establishing a very believable pace which easily draws us into the unfolding drama. In a tribute to fellow bard Missy Good, Llach has the movie in her story actually be a film adaptation of Missy's novel TROPICAL STORM - a clever plot development which allows for a number of guest stars and inside jokes that should be familiar to anyone who's a part of Missy fandom. More than a story, TENDER is an experience folks. It gets my HIGHEST RECOMMENDATION! - 761 pgs., 3/17/99
