AFTER I DIED by JS Stephens
Short little tale set after the events in the first season episode IS THERE A DOCTOR IN THE HOUSE which has a recuperating Gabrielle talking with Xena about their friendship. **AFTER THE VOLCANO by Mary Morgan
Brace yourself for this haunting, beautiful little story because it is going to touch your heart and leave an unforgettable impression. Masterfully written, the story is set amidst the aftermath of a deadly volcano explosion and the resulting tidal wave. Among the survivors is a man holding his son who watches as a young woman visits the injured, bringing them words of kindness, at times telling them stories, always looking for a face she does not find, always putting aside her own pain and worry so she can bring solace to others. It is a gift she eventually shares with her observer telling him a story about a father's love, about hope and the endless cycle of life. All the while, she waits and searches for that face amidst the many while the father from her courage tries to find his own. This one is EXCEPTIONAL folks. It gets my HIGHEST RECOMMENDATION!! [Note: Although this was the first story Mary released on the Web, it is actually a sequel to JUDGEMENT OF THE GODS (THE) which ideally should be read first.] - 5 pgs., 10-2-97

AGAPE by Richard Carter Jr.

ALL IN A DAY'S WORK by Vaxen
Amusing comedy of errors that has Xena and Gabrielle going undercover to try to recover the stolen daughter of a friend - kidnapped by a Suru prince because as a tall woman she would be a status symbol for her husband in the Suru kingdom. The warrior and bard then decide to infiltrate the kingdom by disguising themselves as a Suru with his tall...wife ;-) This one could be an episode from the TV series. Light-hearted, with a nice depiction of the Xena/Gab friendship (Note: story contains some slight subtext) - 7 pgs., 10/2/98

**ALL THROUGH THE NIGHT by Rebekah
This masterpiece is the favorite of many a Xenite. When it was first released in December 1996 it made Xenaverse history, truly elevating the quality of XWP fan fiction to a new level. Known to have influenced some of the best bards writing today, talents like WordWarior, Wishes, and Anon among others, this is an incredibly emotional hurt/comfort tale that explores the dynamics of Xena and Gabrielle's friendship. EVERY fan fiction reader NEEDS to read this. It receives my HIGHEST RECOMMENDATION! [Note: the story is the first part in a larger epic Rebekah planned to write called NOR THE BATTLE TO THE STRONG] - 45 pgs., 12/1996, re-released 5/13/97 and 12/3/99

ALMOST HOME by Rebekah
From the author of the classic ALL THROUGH THE NIGHT comes this new Solstice story set right after the events in BETRAYAL - THE DEBT pt.2 which has Xena and the bard talking over a campfire as they head back to Greece. This is
an emotional, well-written piece with a realistic approach to the challenge now facing Xena and Gabrielle's friendship. - 6 pgs., 12/25/97, re-released 12/3/99

**AMITY REBORN by Maggie
A very special new hurt/comfort story by a bard who never fails to delight with her talent. Xena and Gabrielle face one of the greatest challenges to their friendship when a harrowing accident leaves them virtual strangers. Knowing that together they must try to rediscover the past, Xena braces herself for the possibility that exposing that past will cost her the dearest friendship she's ever known...along with her very soul. Wonderful writing and a poignant, emotional storyline combine to make this a MUST READ!! HIGHLY RECOMMENDED! - 36 pgs., 7/97

AMULET OF DECEPTION (THE) by TrueBlue
Written as a script, reads very much like a Xena episode. The story has Xena and Gabrielle learning the hard way about an amulet that can create false images. Some funny inuendos in this ;-) - 10 pgs., 9/1/96
http://xenafan.com/fiction/content/amulet.htm
ANCIENT VOYAGE by Kevin Loughlin
A XWP/STAR TREK-VOYAGER crossover that has Janeway and the crew of Voyager following a strange vessel thru a subspace rift that lands them back in Ancient Greece where they will soon have a fateful encounter with a certain Warrior Princess and her bard companion :) This is a particularly fun read for fans of both TV series. - 26 pgs., 12/6/97

ANOTHER TIME, ANOTHER PLACE by Tcyhe
An interesting "what if?" story that changes XWP history a bit. This tale is set after the HERCULES episode WARRIOR PRINCESS but assumes that neither the events in THE GAUNTLET nor in UNCHAINED HEART ever took place. Xena changed of her own accord with no prompting from Hercules. She has, in fact, not seen either the demi-god or Iolus since trying to get them to kill one another. She did meet Gabrielle who is now her best friend. As the story begins, Hercules and Iolus are caring for a very confused Gabrielle who has no memory of recent events and does not suspect that a very worried warrior is desperately looking for her. Nicely written and promising. - 10 pgs., 9/7/97

**ANOTHER WAY by Brigid Doyle
An emotional alternate ending to the events in the episode MATERNAL INSTINCTS which has a stranger bringing an embittered Xena to a town where a lost soul desperately needs her. Well written and heart-wrenching. DO NOT MISS! - 6 pgs., 11/30/99

**ANTIPANY SERIES by Godot - Read in the following order. Showing a consistent excellence, this series gets my HIGHEST RECOMMENDATION!
**ARES' CHOSEN by Silk
An exceptional sequel to ARES' CURSE which basically tells the same story but this time from Xena's perspective. The premise has Gabrielle asking her companion to tell her about that first meeting with Ares. The story that emerges is of a courageous, brash, self-assured young woman who together with her younger brother was committed to be the hero that would change the world - only a cloud of darkness would engulf her long before that hero could ever be born. Silk's decision to present the story told in her earlier tale through Xena's eyes this time proves a very effective creative choice, resulting in a poignant treatise on the darkening of a human soul. HIGHLY RECOMMENDED!! - 12 pgs., 1/8/98

ARES' CURSE by Silk
Based on an actual Greek poem, which is included at the end of the story, this is a wonderful little tale that features one of the most interesting and well-rounded characterizations of the God of War I've seen in XWP fan fiction. The story has Ares reminiscing about the fateful day when he once visited Hephestaus' forge and the repercusions that visit would have on him for eternity and on a certain Warrior Princess for the rest of her life. This should particularly delight fans of the God of War. Very nice. [See the sequel ARES' CHOSEN] - 8 pgs., 1/8/98

AS GOOD AS MY WORD by Crewella
Poignant tale set in the kingdom from the episodes WARRIOR...PRINCESS and WARRIOR...PRINCESS...TRAMP which has Diana's father, King Lias, summoning Xena to fulfill a promise she made him long ago - a promise which the warrior now isn't sure she can fulfill. Touching and reaffirming. - 8 pgs., 6/21/97
http://xenafan.com/fiction/content/asgood.html
**AS THE CROW FLIES by Mlocket
Mlocket's darkest piece to date and absolutely RIVETING. The tale begins with Xena and Gabrielle making their way through a GRUESOME war zone. It is an experience that causes Xena's worse nightmares to resurface motivating the warrior to stop the bloodshed at any cost. Meanwhile, Gabrielle struggles to understand what is happening with her companion while she uses her own methods to try to bring peace. Mlocket does an excellent job at depicting the deep bond between warrior and bard. Her imagery is powerful and effective. A fantastic read NOT TO BE MISSED! - 12 pgs., 12/96, re-released 1/5/99

AS THE DAY DAWNS by Lariel
Set just prior to Gabrielle's departure from Poteidaia in the episode SINS OF THE PAST, this nostalgic little tale chronicles the young girl's thoughts after she makes the most important decision of her life and prepares to leave all she's ever known to follow a dangerous ex-warlord into an uncertain future. Lariel does a very nice job of capturing the enthusiasm and optimism of a young Gabrielle. - 3 pgs., 3/15/00
http://www.dreamworker-magazine.com/fanfic/dawns.html
ASCENT TO POWER by W.G. Fields (Starwarrior)
In as much as this is a story about Xena, it is also a tale about a young man named Irideus who is fated to be a High Priest of the Goddess Gaea and through who's determination to save the young girl he loves, a warlord and future hero will be born. Nicely written story that offers its own interpretation of the origins of the Warrior Princess. - 42 pgs., 6/2/97
http://www.cybercomm.net/~warlord/Xena/atp.html
ASHES OF CIRRA by Linda Tellez (aka Saahira)
A VERY powerful Callisto story that has the blonde warlord meeting a young man, with a history not unlike her own, who challenges all the rules Callisto has lived by since her life was forever changed by a dark warrior so many years ago. This is a thoughtful piece with a lot of impact. A really good read. - 5 pgs., 1/6/98
http://www.geocities.com/Area51/Chamber/7473/ashesofcirra.html
**ASPEN'S CHILD by Culprit
Culprit's first XWP story is a haunting, BEAUTIFUL story certain to stir the soul. Camping in an ancient forest, Xena and Gabrielle talk about the savage race of people, now long-dead, who used to live in the area. Unbeknownst to them, a stranger listens - a stranger who was a victim of the cruelty they speak of and who yearns for something lost long ago... This is poignant and extremely moving. NOT TO BE MISSED!! - 10 pgs., 1/13/98

**ASUNDER by Tendre
A unique mixture of drama and the crazy humor Tendre is known for, this FANTASTIC story has the Warrior Princess agreeing to become a general in the army of Phillip, King of Macedon, as he prepares to go to war against the Persians. Xena's hope in taking the position is to be able to offer Gabrielle some stability in their lives but the bard is not as certain about the decision. Gabrielle is immediately suspect of the way in which bards are being used to spread Phillip's propaganda and most importantly, she soon starts to fear the change taking place within Xena as the Warrior Princess once again finds herself in her element, at the head of a great army, preparing for war. With Xena off to fight in Phillip's ill-fated war, Gabrielle remains behind in Athens to fight a battle of her own against enemies who in the king's absence plan to take over the city. Separated from her bard, Xena finally comes to realize just how much Gabrielle means to her but as danger envelopes them both, it is a revelation she may never be able to share with the girl from Potidaea. Written in a semi-script style, this is unlike anything
you have ever read before - filled with equal parts hilarious comedy and poignant drama - a story of EPIC proportions that I VERY HIGHLY RECOMMEND!! [NOTE: ASUNDER is available in both general fiction and alternative versions.] - 147 pgs., 5/15/97

**ATE'S REVENGE by Chem1
The fearsome goddess Ate is back and more determined than ever. Recognizing Xena's biggest vulnerability, Ate centers her efforts on destroying Gabrielle who already badly wounded from the earlier comfrontation with the goddess can only struggle to survive as Xena fights to keep her alive. A FANTASTIC hurt/comfort story that revolves around the almost mystical connection between warrior and bard. VERY HIGHLY RECOMMENDED! [Read THE MIST first. Note: this review is based on the general fiction version of the story. There is also a romantic friendship version available.] - 3/13/97
