Cute story based on an actual Greek myth involving Hercules only this time it is the Bard of Poteidaia who must fulfill six labours if she ever wants to see her dying warrior alive again. Precious ending to this ;-) - 21 pgs., 1/11/99

**GABRIELLE EFFECT (THE) by Kamouraskan
A fanfic effort that would make for one TERRIFIC episode, this story manages to capture the essence of the TV characters in a comedy of errors that is also beautifully reminiscent of the type of humor that made this show such a favorite with fans. Upset that Gabrielle has failed to meet her as they had planned and trying to rid herself of Ares' unwanted company, Xena tricks the God of War into going to find her partner never suspecting the series of mishaps she's set in motion as Gabrielle is soon trying to explain the manly presence of one tall, dark, handsome stranger while playing a demure innocent, a city is laid siege by a group of Amazons desperate to find their roaming queen, Gabrielle's parents rejoice at some unexpected news from their daughter and the God of War finds himself in one HUGE mess! **GAME (THE) by Poto
Skillfully written, this post BITTER SUITE tale has Xena and Gabrielle on their way back to the Amazons for the first time since Xena's attack on the village. Nervous at the prospect, the warrior is relieved when they run into a young Amazon from a now disbanded tribe on her way to visit Gabrielle's. Recognizing the young warrior's skills, Xena proposes that they test the security of the Amazon village as a game to hopefully lessen the tension she's certain the Amazons will be feeling around her. It is a game that unfortunately turns deadly when they all fail to realize that others may not be as forgiving as a certain bard from Poteidaia. Poto delivers here a very compelling treatment of situations and feelings that have been woefully ignored by the TV series. The characterizations are solid all around in a storyline already riveting and with the potential to get ever more so. DO NOT MISS! HIGHLY RECOMMENDED! - 200 pgs., 1/11/99

GAMES GIRLS PLAY by Ms. Auggie
This is a follow-up to Ms. Auggie's earlier story WALKING AFTER MIDNIGHT which was one of the entries in the Second Xenite Bard Contest. It is a very different tale which has Xena and Gabrielle agreeing to participate in a seemingly harmless game organized by the two brothers who are princes in the city they are visiting. Releasing some of the tension they've recently been under, the warrior and bard embrace the competition with fervor each determined to win and neither suspecting the game could lead to the greatest loss of all... This story has a subtle quality to it that lends emotional impact to the darker moments and a poignant desperation to the romance. Well done! - 29 pgs., 8/23/97

A new name in XWP fanfic makes an impressive debut on the Web with a terrific new tale of adventure, intrigue and romance. As the story begins, Xena and the Gabster are on their way to a bard competition, when they learn of an impending attack by raiders. Hoping to warn the local king, the two take a detour to the capital - only to walk into a web of intrigue that will wrap around them both endangering their lives and the happiness they've so recently found. Chakram-1 has a delightful writing style with an almost medieval feel that contributes to the story's atmosphere. The treatment of the Xena/Gab relationship is intensely satisfying, depicting two partners that love and treasure one another deeply. Already a great read, this one shows fantastic promise.
