Set in the world of Xena the Conqueror we first met in the HERCULES episode ARMAGEDDON NOW, this OUTSTANDING tale has the ruthless empress holding a contest to try to determine what "truth" is...with dire consequences for the losers. Undaunted and despite having first-hand knowledge of the woman's cruelty, Gabrielle chooses to participate, driven by this stubborn need to somehow reach the ice cold heart no one else seems capable of breaching. It marks the beginning of a difficult journey for both of them as the Conqueror finds herself intrigued by the young upstart and Gabrielle finds herself suddenly a part of the empress' life - forced to join her on a campaign against the very enemy that helped to make her into the dreaded Destroyer of Nations. Very well written, with a fascinating premise and great characterizations of the Xena and Gabrielle from that alternate world, this one is GUARANTEED to keep you hooked. XWP Fanatic is particularly excelling here in the depiction of the Xena/Gab relationship giving it a gentle quality that is deeply captivating in light of the Conqueror's inate harshness. Put this one at the top of your MUST READ list - it gets my HIGHEST RECOMMENDATION!! [Episode one in the SEVEN WONDERS SERIES] - 173 pgs, 7/16/98

Written in teleplay format (looks like a script to me 8-) this story features Aphrodite, Draco and Ares all conspiring against the Warrior Princess. Great confrontation between an evil Xena and Gabby. Not to be missed.

One of my favorite XWP alt. stories available at last! - FUNNY and just thoroughly WICKED, this little tale is GUARANTEED to put a big old grin on your face. It begins with a rather anxious Warrior Princess waiting for Gabrielle at an inn. When it starts getting late and there's still no sign of her companion, Xena sets out in search for her, never suspecting the predicament her little bard has gotten herself in. Enchanting and sensual this story is best avoided at work ;-) It receives my HIGHEST RECOMMENDATION! - 11/4/97

A dark, intense story that has Xena dealing with battle lust, remembering what that feeling used to drive her to as a warlord and desperately trying to keep Gabrielle from knowing that side of her - only the bard has other ideas... This is a well-written, passionate look at the darker dynamics involved in the Xena/Gab relationship. Note: Make sure to read the warnings at the beginning of the story. - 19 pgs., 1/20/98

VERY sweet story with both humor and romance that has Xena and Gabrielle agreeing to help the Amazons and the Centaurs try to form an alliance with a separate band of Amazons. A party soon sets out for the once-thought-lost city of Themiscrya with Gabrielle in the lead as Queen of her Amazons. Well-known to this other Amazon tribe and hated by them, Xena knows she will not be welcomed at Themiscrya but reluctant to let her bard go alone she accompanies the party anyway in a role she knows the other Amazons will accept...as Gabrielle's slave. - 7/6/97

Coming from the keyboard of Bat Morda it should be no surprise that this is one of the BEST Warlord/Slave stories written to date in XWP fan fiction and an absolute MUST READ! To help a monarch who once offered her army shelter, Xena agrees to try to intimidate a neighboring kingdom into abandoning any expansionist plans they may have. In order to do so, however, she must first convince the king there that she is still the feared warlord of old - an image which really doesn't allow for a bard as a companion. For Xena the solution seems simple - to go alone. For Gabrielle another solution is MUCH more rational - to go along as Xena's slave. Guess who wins ;-) Exceptionally well-written and edited, this is a romance that explores the attraction to things dark and dangerous. Words that come to mind - hot, sizzling, burning! DO NOT READ AT WORK (unless your co-workers are used to seeing you flushed and wearing a silly grin). Bat offers a few more warnings herself at the beginning of her story - make SURE to read those. In an unusual treat we get BOTH the original story and its sequel with this latest by the Xenaverse's favorite flying mammal :) Bat tried a very unique approach in this sequel - basically giving us the same story as the original but from a different perspective - this time as seen through Xena's eyes. The technique works really well enhancing the characterizations set forth in the first tale and revealing to an even greater degree the love beneath the passion. The same words come to mind as in the first story by the way - HOT, SIZZLING, BURNING - so this one gets the DO NOT READ AT WORK warning as well as a reminder to read Bat's disclaimers (they're too funny to miss anyway). VERY HIGHLY RECOMMENDED!!

This is one of the best warlord/slave stories I have ever read - extremely well-written and absolutely RIVETING! It has Xena reverting to her warlord persona after she is sprayed with Ares' blood. In a rage the warlord then sets out on a blood-thirsty path of destruction with one particular conquest in mind - a bard who Xena is determined to make her own at any cost. This tale is action-packed, suspenseful, poignant and deeply passionate. Not to be missed folks! VERY HIGHLY RECOMMENDED! - 11/4/97

Gin continues the captivating tale she began in NEGOTIATIONS with a very promising new sequel that finds the Conqueror and the Queen of the Amazons now very happy trying to make a life for themselves in a world filled with responsibilities, and dangers and reputations to maintain. First up will be the challenge of a separation as Xena is called away to resolve problems in Chin and the young queen must try to deal with her loneliness amidst dangers that are much too close to home. Gin continues here imbuing the relationship between Conqueror and Queen with a wonderful mixture of tenderness, love and fierce passion. She crafts a well-written tale that includes a strong cast of supporting characters, some very surprising twists and some intriguing problems for our heroines to overcome. From the keyboard of one of our veteran talents, this EXCEPTIONAL warlord/slave tale actually written two years ago does a beautiful job of exploring the mutual allure of darkness and light, of power and innocence in a world where love can bring destruction...or grant redemption. It begins with a warlord accepting a gift from her men - a young village girl who's offered herself in exchange for the safety of her people. Intrigued by the combination of defiance and fear, sensuality and innocence, the warlord decides not to break her captive just yet, wanting the girl to come to her instead. Soon, however, this self-imposed challenge is dominating the warlord's every waking moment as a heart previously devoid of uncertainty starts to waver in its purpose sensing that in this battle between warlord and slave an unlikely conqueror may emerge. Catherine gives us a riveting psychological portrayal here of a warlord comfortable in her power yet vulnerable in her craving for the very simplicity and innocence she abandoned long ago. Though more subtly depicted, the slave is equally as complex, with an inner strength that belies the frail exterior and a curious attraction to the very darkness that also repels her. This is a nicely executed study of two very different soulmates who seem to know one another better than they know themselves. A MUST READ! HIGHLY RECOMMENDED! - 19 pgs., 11/18/99

Reality meets Xena: Warrior Princess in what has to be one of the most charming stories I've yet to read in fanfic. Ella once again stays true to her reputation for skillful, original writing, delivering a very different type of warlord story which has the warlord Xena at last meeting the pesky bard that has been making her life just a tad more difficult as of late with her "slight" embellishments of Xena's life. As it turns out - Xena isn't quite the feared figure from Gabrielle's darker stories nor the heroic one from her more recent ones. Neither is Gabrielle the mirror image of the bard from her own tales. Far from perfect, these two women are nevertheless drawn to one another in a sweet recognition of simple attributes and noble hearts. A celebration of humanity in its many shapes and forms, this delightful addition to Xena fanfic comes VERY HIGHLY RECOMMENDED! - 6 pgs., 5/13/99
