**JANICE AND MEL: THE WAR YEARS - 1942: TRAITORS IN OUR MIDST by a href="https://lunacyreviews.ausxip.com/L_Fox.shtm.htm">L. Fox - [Alt, M/J]
L. Fox's latest is a fantastic action-adventure with plenty of suspense, some fun moments and a depiction of the Mel/Janice relationship that is tender and very endearing. Acting as a sequel to THE FAVOR, the story begins with the spunky archeologist and her beautiful partner home buying in Anapolis where they have decided to stay while awaiting further orders from their new employer - the Office of Strategic Services which in years to come would become known simply as the OSS. They have just begun to settle down when those first orders finally arrive sending them on a mission into the jungles of Central America that will once again pit them against the greatest evil of their day and reawaken the spirit of a warrior centuries old. Carefully researched, this story is an absolute treat for any history buff as L. Fox weaves actual historical events into his own tale giving it a wonderful sense of authenticity. L. Fox's characterizations are well-drawn with his insecure Mel being particularly fun to see when she goes into Xena- mode. A great read which should particularly delight Mel/Janice fans but will entertain any Xenite as well. HIGHLY RECOMMENDED! - 3/22/98

**JUST LIKE XENA by a href="https://lunacyreviews.ausxip.com/LJ_Maas.shtm.htm">L.J. Maas
Written in answer to a challenge on the a href="http://www.egroups.com/subscribe/ex-Guards">Ex-Guards mailing list, this modern-day uber is a delightful children's story chronicling the first meeting between rambunctious 8 yr. old Charlie Cunningham and the new girl in school - Katie Tyler, a smart little seven-year-old who's been allowed to skip a grade. A Xena-wannabee, Charlie immediately feels protective toward her new friend and thrilled when instead of laughing at her for playing make-believe, Katie volunteers to be "Gabrielle". Instant best friends, the two are soon faced with a challenge neither quite understands, however, when Charlie's mother, upon learning her daughter's new friend has TWO moms, refuses to let them play - prompting Charlie to make a drastic decision and inadvertently setting the stage for one adult to learn an important lesson about friendship, parenting and prejudices. A story for the whole family with a couple of charming little ubers, this one comes HIGHLY RECOMMENDED! - 22 pgs., 7/21/00

**KINK AND HOW TO WORK IT (THE) by a href="https://lunacyreviews.ausxip.com/Penumbra.shtm.htm">Penumbra - [Alt]
The first in Penumbra's very well-written, very sophisticated, and very eyebrow-raising KINK series, this contemporary uber tale introduces London Police Detective Della Covington, a smart, beautiful Southern blue-blood working in London through an exchange program with Scotland Yard. Investigating a gruesome murder, Della follows a hunch that leads her to an obscure club known as The Rapture and its enigmatic owner, Ghislaine du Plessis, a tall, stunning beauty with a mysterious past, powerful connections and blue eyes that draw the detective like a moth to a flame. Exposed to this seductive new world of dark desires, Della soon finds herself discovering a love and passion unlike anything else she's ever known, and sensing in the arms of a stranger that at long last...she's come home. This story seems almost like an intellectual merging of Sharon Bower's LUCIFER RISING and Katrina's WARLORD DAZE. Penumbra paints a fascinating picture here of a subculture most readers will know little about. With two strong heroines and a solid depiction of the emotional connection between, the result is a very intriguing story well worth the read. VERY HIGHLY RECOMMENDED!! [An IMPORTANT cautionary note here - featuring an exploration of the BDSM scene (that stands for bondage, domination, and sado-masochism folks) this story definitely lives up to its title so make sure to read the disclaimers first.] [See the sequel THE KINK AND WAYS TO ENJOY IT] - 54 pgs., 12/18/98

**KINK AND WAYS TO ENJOY IT (THE) by a href="https://lunacyreviews.ausxip.com/Penumbra.shtm.htm">Penumbra - [Alt]
Set several months after THE KINK AND HOW TO WORK IT, this sequel has Ghis and Della happily making a life together when an old friend of the club owner asks for help investigating an apparent case of corporate espionage. Before long the two are more involved than they ever thought they'd be as motivations very different from those they had originally suspected start to surface, adding a new sense of danger to their lives just as Della is trying to deal with the imminent arrival of her parents. This second story in the series adds wonderful depth to the relationship in a suspenseful, fast-pased plot once again crafted around a very intriguing, erotically charged, committed partnership. VERY HIGHLY RECOMMENDED! [An IMPORTANT cautionary note here - featuring an exploration of the BDSM scene (that stands for bondage, domination, and sado-masochism folks) this story definitely lives up to its title so make sure to read the disclaimers first.] [See the sequel THE KINK AND POINT TO IT] - 75 pgs., 12/18/98

**KINK AND POINT IN IT (THE) by a href="https://lunacyreviews.ausxip.com/Penumbra.shtm.htm">Penumbra - [Alt]
The third in Penumbra's KINK SERIES (other two stories reviewed above), this latest tale has the beautiful LPD detective and the sexy club owner facing yet another challenge when a group of religious fundamentalists target The Rapture, determined to close it and punish its depraved owner by any means possible. An ominous sense of danger permeates the beginning of this new offering which continues the series successful mixture of strong characterizations, clever storylines, a committed relationship and kink ;-) DO NOT MISS! [An IMPORTANT cautionary note here - featuring an exploration of the BDSM scene (that stands for bondage, domination, and sado-masochism folks) this story definitely lives up to its title so make sure to read the disclaimers first.] - 66 pgs., 12/18/98

KINK'S THE THING by a href="https://lunacyreviews.ausxip.com/Penumbra.shtm.htm">Penumbra - [Alt]
Penumbra continues her sizzling KINK SERIES with a very promising new entry that has both Ghis and Della troubled by recent job assignments, certain only of their love for one another and their determination to protect that at any cost. Just as atmospheric as the previous stories in the series, this new one offers a compelling mixture of the outlandish and the romantic setting the passionate tale of two souls very much in love amidst the exotic world of the BDSM club scene. DO NOT MISS! [An IMPORTANT cautionary note here - featuring an exploration of BDSM (that stands for bondage, domination, and sado- masochism folks) this series definitely lives up to its title so make sure to read the disclaimers first.] - 72 pgs., 1/28/99

POETS AND POLITICS OF KINK (THE) by a href="https://lunacyreviews.ausxip.com/Penumbra.shtm.htm">Penumbra - [Alt]
This fourth entry in Penumbra's KINK SERIES offers an eerie insight into the mind of a serial killer as Della investigates a series of gruesome murders apparently committed by someone quite familiar with the London nightclub scene. Meanwhile, on her off time the detective initiates an investigation of a more personal nature with the aid of another rather dangerous club regular. A scary mystery with a little fun thrown in. - 44 pgs., 11/18/99
