DANCE (THE) by Pamela Turner
A symbolic peace that has the warrior and bard first dancing around an
issue close to their hearts - then reaching a new awareness while dancing

DARING GAMES by Xenrielle

inviting the bard to play a game of truth or dare...- 3 pgs., 2/2/98

DARK BEAUTY by Mil Toro
This is a follow-up to Mil's excellent DOWN TO THE DARKNESS
which continues that story's exploration of Xena's darker side - this time
by contrasting who the warrior is now with what she once was. The tale has
a now happy Xena and Gabrielle being hunted by a very dangerous enemy - an
enemy who was once the victim of the Warrior Princess - an enemy who has
been obsessed with her since the fiery destruction of a village
called...Cirrah. Very well-written and passionate, the story is partly
told through a series of flashbacks which paint a chilling characterization
of the Warrior Princess and give insight into the psyche of the one now
hunting her. - 53 pgs., 9/1/97

**DARK COMES THE MORNING by Melissa Good
Here we go again folks on another spectacular ride into what is undoubtedly the most-loved vision of Xena and Gabrielle in this fandom as Missy picks up the story of the warrior and bard almost a year after the events in CIRCLE OF LIFE. Enjoying the new addition to their family, Xena and Gabrielle are happy seeing their daughter grow and spending time with friends and family but there's a restlessness stirring within them also as the bard finds herself craving those quiet times she used to spend with the warrior on the road, and Xena works to keep her active mind challenged. It's a restlessness that soon finds an outlet when refugees begin to arrive in Amphipolis from neighboring areas prompting Xena and her partner to go do a little investigating in a decision that will herald the return of a terrible darkness into their lives. There's a level of understanding, love and devotion in Missy's versions of these characters that adds a terrific sense of warmth and intimacy to their every interaction. Already in part one this story presents a captivating combination of gentle humor, poignant drama and suspenseful intrigue certain to intensify in the chapters ahead under the guidance of this master storyteller. Make this one a regular stop in the weeks ahead. It gets my HIGHEST RECOMMENDATION! [part of the JOURNEY OF SOULMATES SERIES] - 553 pgs., 3/7/99
RELATED STORIES BY OTHER AUTHORS:
DARK PROMISE by Katrina and Sharon Bowers
This latest entry in Katrina's BLOOD AND ROSES SERIES promises to be one wild, fun ride. A crossover tale featuring the characters from BUFFY THE VAMPIRE SLAYER, this story has Buffy getting quite a surprise when she meets Willow's aunts who aside from having the same names as a couple of popular TV characters, also keep setting off the slayer's hypersensitive senses. Katrina and Sharon's characterizations are on the money and will delight fans of both series although this is entertaining even if you only watch one of them. HIGHLY RECOMMENDED! [unfinished] - 3/8/98

DARK SWORD (THE) by Allyson Heisey
Intense tale that has Xena once again revisiting all the dark emotions that
drove her as a warlord when Ares secretly gifts her with an enchanted
sword. Desperate, a seemingly helpless Gabrielle becomes determined to try
to save her Warrior Princess...only Xena may not want to be saved. A
suspenseful tale about the seductive allure of power pitted against the
strength of pure love. - 32 pgs., 4/14/98

DARKFALL by XeniteSupreme
Rousing adventure tale that has Xena and the bard going up against
fanatical and VERY dangerous followers of Ares determined to replace the
Warrior Princess as the Chosen of the God of War. Nice romantic moments and
terrific action sequences in an entertaining story. - 35 pgs., 4/8/98

**DARKNESS FALLS by Melissa Good
This is THE story every fanfic aficionado out there has been waiting for -
Missy tackles "the rift", and folks it is indeed another incredible
experience courtesy of one of the most consistent talents in our Xenaverse.
This tale is particularly intense in that while set after the episode
BITTER SUITE, it also CONTINUES the storyline Missy has been following
throughout her novels. Indeed DARKNESS FALLS takes
place after REFLECTIONS
FROM THE PAST which Missy just finished. Given the incredible
love, tenderness and commitment which has increasingly characterized the
relationship between warrior and bard throughout Missy's novels, it is
especially heart-wrenching to see that relationship in pieces at the
beginning of this latest story as Xena and Gabrielle struggle to try to
deal with what has happened to them and what they've done to one another.
Missy changes the events which we saw on TV just a bit but other than that
she plunges headlong into the trauma of the rift chronicling a much more
realistic emotional journey for Xena and Gabrielle as they start on the
path back to one another. This story is on the surface very different from
what we're used to from this bard but beneath that surface and making its
way to the top is the same magic, the same sense of gentle passion and
fierce love that in Xena fanfic is classic Melissa Good. This story gets
my HIGHEST RECOMMENDATION! [Do not miss the sequel LEAP OF FAITH, part of the JOURNEY OF SOULMATES SERIES] - 239 pgs., 2/25/98

DARPHUS' REVENGE by C.J. Wells
CJ continues her Conqueror saga in this sequel to the THE ANTONIUS SITUATION which has the reality of who the Conqueror is and what her life is like testing the blossoming relationship between her and Gabrielle as never before. Aware that the Conqueror almost killed her friend Bahri and sensing that Xena's life will forever be immersed in darkness while she continues to revel in violence and revenge, Gabrielle tries to change the warrior without any initial success but in the process she embarks on a new life for herself that may ultimately motivate the Conqueror to reevaluate her own life. CJ does a good job here of bringing in an important part of Xena canon with the introduction of the Amazons into the equation. She also develops the characters further as Gabrielle finds a new sense of confidence and Xena confronts a will almost as stubborn as her own. Another entertaining entry in the series. - 29 pgs., 3/26/00

DAY AFTER (THE) by Anima
This piece features dueling vignettes of sorts as first Gabrielle then Xena reflect on what they mean to one another in the hours after the events in the episode CRUSADER. A thoughtful look into the hearts of these characters. - 2 pgs., 12/7/98
