DEATH CULT OF LYDIA (THE) by Susan Smith
In a sequel to her story THE AMAZONS OF DAHOMEY, Smitty follows Xena and Gabrielle's journey as the two leave Dahomey to travel to the land of the Pharaohs and the fabled city of Alexandria. All the while the Warrior Princess is worried about the hallucinations and moodiness she's recently been experiencing. Smitty does a great job imparting a historic atmosphere to the story making the exotic locations and people come alive. This one shows nice potential. [unfinished] - 9 pgs., 4/25/99

**DEATH OF A NATION TRILOGY by Katelin B. - [Read in the order listed here]

BOOK I : TO RESCUE A FRIEND
BOOK II: WHAT HAPPENS NOW?

**DEATH OF DREAMS by Godot
Godot's latest gem once again features what has got to be my favorite original character from fan fiction - that wacky sorceress vent on making life impossible for a certain Warrior Princess - the unforgettable Antipany. How much improved the XWP TV series would be if we could have a truly funny, thoroughly enchanting character like this one sharing screen time with Xena and the bard instead of the more obnoxious elements we seem stuck with at the moment. Godot's newest is a story which stands on its own but is also the fifth featuring Antipany and a follow-up of sorts to her last story JOURNEY INTO DARKNESS. The story has a Xena and Gabrielle traveling with a very reluctant Antipany to the Valley of Larima where Xena hopes to keep some powerful ancient texts from being stolen. It is a challenge that will become more difficult in the days ahead as only the bard seems to stand in the way of warrior and sorceress killing one another - a challenge that will turn into a deadly mystery involving an old friend, a possible wolf in sheep's clothing, and prophesies of darkness yet to come. Featuring some of the absolute BEST lines I've read in fan fiction in a long time, this story will have you laughing loudly at times, grinning often, and probably feeling nostalgic as well at the very loving, beautiful relationship Xena and Gabrielle share here. With a rather poignant ending, this story is simply a delight to read. An experience no fanfic reader should do without which gets my HIGHEST RECOMMENDATION!! [Note: This story is NOT explicit. It does include some rather strong subtext but could have probably been included in the general fiction section just as well]. - 41 pgs., 3/18/98

**DEATH, RESURRECTION, AND TAXES: A COMEDY by Trisha Von Doss AKA Xenamour
One of the finer comedies I've read in a while, this delightful new story has the feel of some of those early comedy classics from authors like Della Street, DJWP, and Pink Rabbit Productions who while stressing the differences between Xena and Gab to expertly create humor always managed to convey a deep sense of warmth, affection and devotion between them. Set after the duo's fifth season extended "beauty sleep" but thankfully avoiding the twilight of the gods storyline, Trisha's tale finds the warrior and bard facing something even scarier than the wrath of the Olympians - a tax audit. With the potential of a 31 year tax bill in their future, Gabrielle goes to work trying to defend their somewhat unconventional deductions while the warrior spends time placating one cranky bard and uses her own methods for dealing with the dilemma. This is a fun, light-hearted tale with the Xena and Gab that made most of us fans - two very different partners who sometimes drive one another crazy...but wouldn't have it any other way. VERY HIGHLY RECOMMENDED! - 34 pgs., 10/1/00

**DEBIT (THE) by Joanna
Joanna continues dulling the pain of the recent rift we are seeing in the TV series with some of the FUNNIEST parodies ever written in XWP fan fiction. This latest one should prove particularly popular with the librarians among us although it's guaranteed to tickle ALL funny bones regardless of profession. The story has Xena receiving a message from the "Quiet One Who Shushes With First Finger". Determined to help her long lost mentor - the Librarian - Xena heads for the land of Rus with Gabrielle in tow. Before long the bard will become intimately acquainted with a mud turtle, Xena will experience hurt without comfort and both our heroines will find themselves facing a despot who insist on payment of all overdue fines!! This is simply PRICELESS folks! A most welcome reprieve from the agony of reruns. VERY HIGHLY RECOMENDED!! - 4 pgs., 12/8/97

**DECEPTION MOST WONDROUS by Sharona
From a new bard with lots of promise, this is a nicely original, clever story that has Xena and Gabrielle struggling with their as yet unspoken attraction for one another when they join a gang of female warriors as "Aetna" and her loving partner, "Eupie" to try to determine why these want an old acquaintance of Xena's dead. Funny and playful and devilishly flirtatious, Sharona's characterizations of our two heroines are straight out of that now classic episode A DAY IN THE LIFE. This is a story about real love blossoming amidst pale imitations. It's a romance that is sweet and passionate and amusingly realistic all at once. DO NOT MISS! HIGHLY RECOMMENDED!! - 24 pgs., 4/28/98

DECISIONS by Beowolf
Xena and Gabrielle help a village fight raiders even as they are struggling against misunderstandings concerning their feelings for one another. - 37 pgs., 4/23/97
http://xwp-altfic.simpl enet.com/beowolf2.txt

DECISIONS by Watcher
Watcher's latest has Gabrielle missing her warrior terribly when an unexpected emergency forces them to separate. It is while waiting for Xena that the bard comes to some difficult decisions concerning her new life with the warrior and the honesty with which she wants them facing that life. A nice love fest :) - 50 pgs., 2/23/98

DECISIONS, DECISIONS by T. Novan
Artemis' would-be rescuers continue their efforts on her behalf as they prowl the tunnels of the cave serving as her prison...only they're not the only ones prowling around in there ;-) Part 65 of the RAISING MELOSA SERIES features some great exchanges between the characters despite the escalating danger. - 4 pgs., 8/16/99

DEEP WATER by Wakar
Beautiful haunting story of a love long gone and another just waiting to be born. As the story begins, Cupid is trying to calm his mother who is exceedingly frustrated at the continuing stubbornness of a certain Warrior Princess in affairs of the heart. A reluctant Aphrodite eventually gives in to her son's plea not to interfere, unaware that years before the winged god of love put his own plans into motion - plans that are just now leading the warrior and her bard to a fateful meeting. Meanwhile, Xena and Gabrielle happen across a mysterious stranger, a woman both are strangely drawn to and who seems capable of looking into the very core of their hearts. Great story by a fine new addition to the list of Xena bards! - 23 pgs., 6/16/97
http://www.sonic.net/LightStreams/FanFiction/DeepWater.html

DEFILER by Kerabe
A desperate Xena watches, helpless, as evil once again seems to take her bard from her. Good use of symbolism in this. - 3 pgs., 9/18/98
http://members.wbs.net/homepages/c/h/a/chakram1/defiler.html

**DEJA VU ALL OVER AGAIN by Ella Quince
A delightful new story based on the premise of the episode BEEN THERE, DONE THAT which has Xena once again trapped in a never-ending day with only one possible way of breaking the time loop - she has to help the bard find...her true love. Terrific grin potential in this ;-) HIGHLY RECOMMENDED! - 8 pgs., 1/20/98

DELICACY by Della Street
Gabrielle shows just what a dedicated partner she is as she goes out of her way to make sure her warrior is properly taken care of after a battle ;-) Another fun entry in the TIMEWASTERS SERIES. - 3 pgs., 1/26/99
https://www.altfic.com//subtextfic/Xena/della/delicacy.htm

**DEMONS by Athemis
After another reminder from Xena's dark past, the Warrior Princess sinks into despair leaving Gabrielle lonely, confused and desperate to try to reach her. Athemis uses a beautifully vivid writing style that conveys a lot of emotion. Including very little dialogue, she has the characters relying on their other senses to communicate with each other - a look, a touch, a sound. The result is a very passionate tale that clearly conveys the electricity and the love between our heroines. Very nice! HIGHLY RECOMMENDED! - 15 pgs., 7/26/97
http://members.aol .com/athemis/halcyon/demons.htm

**DEMONS IN THE DARK by Pink Rabbit Productions
A WONDERFUL combination hurt/comfort and first time story that has Gabrielle caring for an ill Xena while the Warrior Princess wrestles with nightmares and with feelings that in her weakened state she finds more and more difficult to deny. Heart-warming and very satisfying. HIGHLY RECOMMENDED! - 10 pgs., 11/4/97
https://www.altfic.com//subtextfic/Xena/prp/Demons.htm

DENY OR EMBRACE by D. Joan Leib
Intriguing new story which finds the warrior and bard on a seemingly normal day enjoying the countryside when a terrifying vision brings them to a standstill. Determined to learn more about what may have sparked that vision the two decide to spend time at a nearby village where preparations for an annual ritual have come to a halt after an important part of that ritual turns up missing. Joan does a skillful job of building the sense of mystery in this. Solid writing in an original tale. - 31 pgs., 6/29/98
http://www.englishchick.com/fic/xena/deny.htm

DEPARTURE by T. Novan
Story number twelve in the RAISING MELOSA SERIES, this tale unveils a major revelation as the bard learns more about her partner and is made privy to the destiny awaiting one of their children. Another satisfying chapter in a very engrossing series. DO NOT MISS! - 6 pgs., 1/30/99

**DEPTH OF LOVE (THE) by T. Novan
One of the most stirring entries yet in the RAISING MELOSA SERIES, this story has a devoted and broken-hearted Xena caring for her injured soulmate as friends and family offer support. A hurt/comfort piece guaranteed to tug at those old heart strings. HIGHLY RECOMMENDED! - 7 pgs., 2/24/99

DESTINY by Heike Straub
In her first fanfic effort Heike brings us a poignant interpretation of the events that could lead to that fateful scene atop a snowy mountain that is now a vision shared by both warrior and bard. With hurt/comfort elements thrown in and a fiercely devoted treatment of the relationship this one definitely holds your attention. - 21 pgs., 4/2/99
http://www.amazontrails.com/xena/destiny.htm

**DEUS EX GABRIELLE by Chris M.
A delightfully entertaining new offering that finds the Bard of Poteidaia in a difficult predicament after Apollo kidnaps her and she unknowingly eats a little too much ambrosia. The new goddess then embarks on a quest to find someone willing to take her godhood away so she can return to the mortal who owns her heart. Some hysterical moments in this as the bard turned goddess leaves her mark all over Olympus :) Very well written and very cute! HIGHLY RECOMMENDED! [unfinished] - 32 pgs., 9/4/98
