**SECOND CHANCE (A): GABRIELLE'S RETURN by TZ
A first-time, hurt/comfort story all rolled into one SPECTACULAR package, this is one of those tales you'll be unable to put down 'til the very end! One of the entries in TZ's A SACRIFICE FOR LOVE SERIES, the story is set after the events in SACRIFICE II and has a number of Olympians all pooling their resources to reunite a certain warrior with her beloved bard. TZ's characterizations in this are solid and engaging while her depiction of the Xena/Gab relationship is loving, caring, sensual, and just marvelously heartwarming. A simple story about a love that is truly magical, this is the type of tale that makes XWP fan fiction such a delight. VERY HIGHLY RECOMMENDED!! - 23 pgs., 7/20/98

**SECRETS PAST by M. Pappas and J. Covington
This is the final entry in the trilogy which began with ARES' GAME and was later continued in ESCAPADE. This is also possibly the best tale so far by these two very talented authors with the most happening names in the Xenaverse! As the story begins Xena and Gabrielle are considering what direction their relationship is to take now that they have admitted what they feel for one another. Knowing that it is important to Gabrielle, Xena agrees to have their union officially blessed by the Amazons, never telling the bard just exactly what the ceremony involves and never suspecting herself the series of events that will be unleashed as a result - events that will uncover a shocking secret from the past and that will threaten to destroy what Xena holds most dear. This story is long and THANK THE GODS for that because you will not want it to end! Romance, intrigue, drama, and a TON of humor all wrapped up in a very nicely written package. A story with the PERFECT solution for our recent "indecision" problems in the U.S., MaryE's latest has the warrior and bard arriving in Florida to try to solve some election fiasco only to find they don't have as much in common with the "Bush" lovers as they at first thought, that the continued unrest may lead to mayhem and "Gore" and that an old enemy may be up to his old tricks again. Delightful and decidedly clever, this tale puts the warrior and bard in a setting that just seems to SCREAM for their intervention ;-) The characterizations are adorable with both somewhat innocent in the ways of the modern world but willing to cut to the point as it were and as usual - loving one another's company >:-) The final line in this one is GUARANTEED to shake that funny bone no matter what your political sensibilities are. An Argo with attitude. You just have to LOVE this story ;-) It's not easy being a warrior's horse when that warrior is smitten and too scared to do anything about it. Set on that ever-so-romantic holiday, Cupid's Day, the story has the warrior in the midst of a guilt trip after she rather effectively ruins the bard's surprise. **SEVEN DAYS IN POMPEII by DJWP
One of the most popular talents in XWP fanfic returns to once again help us deal with XWS as she did exactly one year ago with the release of the much loved classic A BARD DAY'S NIGHT. Set after the end of season three, DJ's latest finds Xena on a lonely stretch of beach, dazed after the loss of her soulmate, turning to the one place where she knows she'll feel the bard's spirit most of all - in Gabrielle's scrolls. Alone with Argo she begins reading those scrolls and reminiscing back to one of the last adventures they shared while on a fateful visit to a city named...Pompeii. With their relationship still not fully healed from the horror of the rift, this was a time full of insecurities and worries for them but also filled with a renewed sense of hope amidst the infectious joviality of a city preparing for one of its grandest festivals. They are even further drawn into the Pompeiian's excitement when they happen across an old friend well-versed in the art of FUN - the incomparable Sappho who we first me in A BARD DAY'S NIGHT and who is soon once again doing what she does best - getting them all into TROUBLE! DJ's Sappho is one of the greatest creations in fanfic while her treatment of the Xena/Gab partnership remains heartfelt and wonderfully compelling, made even more so this time around by the poignancy of seeing the warrior remember a time when they were both so stubbornly holding on to the love between them. Featuring a passionate, beautifully erotic, loving reaffirmation of the connection between warrior and bard contrasted against the terror of thousands as a sleeping mountain awakens to mark the final hours of an ancient city, this story is absolutely riveting. There are rumors about a legendary LOST CHAPTER that is also part of the story - lets just say I give this chapter my HIGHEST RECOMMENDATION ;-) ...but like those explorers who discovered the ruins of Pompeii, be adviced that you're gonna have to do a little digging to find it - and no guys - don't ask me. I've been sworn to secrecy! DJ has turned her story into a multiedia extravaganza adding to it maps and pictures, including some very dramatic images of the end of Pompeii which from personal experience, having visited the ruins of the city, I can tell you are quite poignant. SEVEN DAYS is a very worthy addition to this bard's outstanding body of work - one of the best to come out this year. It receives my HIGHEST RECOMMENDATION!! - 216 pgs., 7/31/98
