**SILENCES by Mayt
One of the more moving hurt/comfort stories I've read in a while, Mayt's latest is a deeply emotional tale with very well-crafted, sophisticated characterizations and a particularly strong showing for the bard. Set just after a battle the two had been fighting in, the tale begins with Xena removing her badly hurt partner from the battlefield so she can minister to Gabrielle's injuries. When the bard finally awakens days later it is to a world of silence and a Xena growing more distant by the minute. Guilt-ridden and convinced Gabrielle would be better off without her, the warrior escorts the unsuspecting bard to the Amazons where her actions will forever change the course of their relationship bringing to the surface the dormant strength within the Amazon Queen and making the stubborn warrior realize just how desperately she needs her bard. Spanning a time period of several months, this story presents a fascinating challenge to the relationship and a treatment of our heroines that is refreshingly different.
HIGHLY RECOMMENDED! [See the sequel SILENCES II] - 22 pgs., 9/17/99

**SILENCES II by Mayt
Mayt continues the touching hurt/comfort tale she began in SILENCES picking up the story where the first one left off - with the warrior and bard taking the first, tentative steps toward a new intimacy in their relationship. Both work hard at broaching the insecurities and fears that nearly drove them apart but confidence in their new commitment will remain fragile for a while longer making them both vulnerable to a resurfacing of those old fears. Mayt once
again does a beautiful job here with the depiction of the Xena/Gab relationship leaving no doubt as to the depth of their love even as she presents challenges to that love. Very romantic, heart-felt, emotional storytelling makes this one a MUST READ! VERY HIGHLY RECOMMENDED! [See the sequel FEAR OF DAYLIGHT] - 12 pgs., 10/3/99

**SILENT BARD (The) by B L Miller
This story is NOT TO BE MISSED!! - one of the most poignant, beautiful alt. tales I've read in a long time. Ares unleashes his latest plan to try to win back the Warrior Princess with devastating consequences for Gabrielle who suddenly finds herself in a terrifying world of silence. An anguished Xena is left to try to find a solution before the little bard sinks into despair. Meanwhile another plan is forming to help the two - a plan that can only work if the warrior and bard finally find the courage to look into their hearts. Wonderful depiction of the relationship in a moving hurt/comfort story that receives my HIGHEST RECOMMENDATION!! - 49 pgs., 4/97

**SILENT CITY (THE) by Dr. Bob
This is a continuation of Dr. Bob's previous stories, BEGINNINGS, THE SPRING FESTIVAL and A SOUL REUNITED. Together now, Xena and the bard are enjoying their new-found closeness when they happen across the ruins of a mysterious city - abandoned...or so it seems. With more to loose now than ever, the two set out to unravel the secret of the silent city unaware of the true horror hiding within the ruins. This story expands on the love and romance warrior and bard discovered in A SOUL REUNITED - delivering another deeply passionate tale. The mystery of the silent city is unraveled slowly, at times with gruesome precision. The overall result is another first-class read from one of our most talented bards. VERY HIGHLY RECOMMENDED!! **SILENT NIGHT by Ella Quince
An inn...a shy bard...a warrior willing and able to help her get over her shyness >:) Reading like those much-loved classic alt. romps from the early beginnings of XWP fanfic, Ella's new contribution can only be described as WICKEDLY delightful :) A MUST READ! HIGHLY RECOMMENDED! - 3 pgs., 12/30/98

**SIMPLE MEMORY (A) by Rooks
A TRULY heart-warming, poignant, beautiful little vignette that will leave you with a smile, a tear in your eye, and an appreciation deep inside for the gift that is love and friendship. This little tale looks at the warrior and bard through the eyes of another - a very special friend who treasures them both and is content to stand in the shadows as the two create history. A great piece that just pulls the emotions right out. VERY HIGHLY RECOMMENDED! - 2 pgs., 2/16/98

**SIMPLE TWIST OF FATE (A) by Rosemary
After nearly three years of writing Xena fanfic and influencing many a bard exposed to her fiction through small private mailing lists, Rosemary comes at last to the Web bringing with her some classic Xena yarns, among them this early warlord/slave tale which helped to establish the genre and created a CLEAR need for that Amazon Ice Company so many of us rely on these days >:) Written in the Fall of 1996, this story is set in alternate reality where Xena and Gabrielle meet under very different circumstances. A long-time slave already, the young woman from Poteidaia doesn't expect her life to be any different as she waits to be purchased by the next warlord but different indeed it starts to be as soon as she becomes property of the Destroyer of Nations. Gentle despite her toughness and caring despite her cruelty, the warlord starts to win over the slave, enveloping Gabrielle in a passion so fierce that soon nothing else matters and as one heart surrenders, another is finally conquered. A delivery of PLENTY of Amazon ice is definitely in order before tackling this one folks. A SIMPLE TWIST OF FATE inspired many of the best alt. bards working today providing ALL sorts of interesting motivation ;-) It's a fun read and historically fascinating for anyone interested in the development of Xena fanfic through the years. A MUST READ! VERY HIGHLY RECOMMENDED! - 20 pgs., 1/9/99

**SINGLE MOST IMPORTANT THING (THE) by My Warrior
An avid reader since childhood, I've read books that are over a thousand pages in length and leave an unforgettable impression but it is the simple little stories like this new one by My Warrior that have irrevocably convinced me of the power of the written word. In just a few paragraphs here My Warrior tells a story of two lives devoted to one another, of undying devotion and unparalleled love. Through the wistful recollections of a bard, we are told of the union of two souls and reminded of what that single most important thing is... Beautiful writing in a very worthwhile read. HIGHLY RECOMMENDED! - 4 pgs., 12/1/98

SITUATION by Rab Donald
Very cute offering about the trials and tribulations of one gambler in desperate need of funds to pay of debts, one bard wanting to at last admit her feelings for a certain warrior, and one Warrior Princess whose more than a little upset at suddenly finding herself without her bard. Rab uses a changing point-of-view technique that is highly effective in drawing out the characterizations and adding a wonderful humor to the piece. DO NOT MISS! - 3 pgs., 3/24/99
