AFRICAN QUEEN (THE) by Bibbit
Mixing history with fiction, Bibbit's latest takes the warrior and bard to the land of Israel where the legendary King Solomon asks for Xena's help in searching for the culprit trying to assassinate the visiting Queen of Sheba. Meanwhile, Gabrielle finds a friend in the foreign queen, immediately sympathizing with the young woman's problematic love life and finding the courage to perhaps someday do something about her own. Bibbit does a nice job of developing the suspense here. The characterizations of both the principals and the supporting players are well-drawn with the Xena/Gab relationship showing a particularly compelling tenderness. [See the sequel FISHING IN THE DARK] - 40 pgs., 1/5/99

AFTER by Lace Priest
A sequel to RELEASE ME which picks up the story the morning after when warrior and bard are both feeling uncertain and tentative. A passionate depiction of the relationship. - 3 pgs., 7/30/98

**AFTER AMPHIPOLIS by Charmer
I love this story. It singlehandedly addresses some of the most CRITICAL issues I and other viewers have had with the TV show, questioning both the perfection of the "hero" and of this "better" world the Twilight of the Gods will supposedly give way to. Set after the events in the episode SIEGE OF AMPHIPOLIS, the story has Xena unable to shake some distressing nightmares about Eve - nightmares in which her baby is in mortal danger from an enemy that looks all-too familiar - an enemy with the face of her beloved partner. The memory of Hope troubles her deeply - distancing her from the one person who's been there for her for so long, even as it gives rise to some terrifying new doubts. In the forests of Bacchus those doubts and Xena's growing worry will finally bring the warrior into a fateful confrontation with her greatest fear, forcing her to reevaluate those choices from the past and experience the very anguish she once visited on another. Charmer delivers here an INCREDIBLY thought-provoking story which very effectively stays away from depictions of villains and heroes as either perfection personified or evil incarnate. The premise set forth here is a very valid one with a cautionary note important for us all to keep in mind. Excellent work. VERY HIGHLY RECOMMENDED! - 16 pgs., 4/3/00

AFTER ROME by ArdentTly
The warrior manages to rather effectively distract her bard from troubling thoughts. Sweet and reaffirming. - 2 pgs., 1/17/99

[Portuguese version: DEPOIS DE ROMA translated by Ana Elglin at http://www.geocities.com/Athens/Rhodes/1960/depoisderoma.html]

AFTER THE BATH by Erato Bard
This is a very tender, beautiful vignette depicting Xena's first romantic encounter with Lao Ma at a point when the exhausted warrior, tired of maintaining the rage within, suddenly lets herself be vulnerable. Nicely done. - 4 pgs., 1/28/98
http://xenafan.com/fiction/content3/bath.html

AFTER THE CRUSADE by Marion D Tuttle
An epilogue to the episode CRUSADER that has the warrior and bard discussing their recent actions and at long last facing feelings they'd been to afraid to acknowledge. Emotional and passionate. - 10 pgs., 12/24/98
http://www.amazontrails.com/xena/crusade.htm

AFTER THE FLAMES by K. M. McHugh
Set immediately after the events in A FAMILY AFFAIR, this bard's debut story is a riveting tale which uses the backdrop of Gabrielle's reunion with her parents to explore the Xena/Gab relationship, chronicling their way back from one another after the devastation of the rift and marking a much-longed for new beginning for them both. McHugh gives a nice sophistication and realness to the romance while delivering a story which a more stronger sense of closer than the TV series has ever given us. A very promising debut. - 10 pgs., 6/5/99

AFTER THE GLITTER by Sam Ruskin
In the sequel to TELLING SECRETS, the warrior and bard finally start to explore their passion for one another only traveling with a toddler doesn't make that easy. Sam does a good job here of showing the uncertainty and anxiety that usually comes along with a growing intimacy in any relationship - particularly one with the challenges Xena and Gab have faced to be together. - 4 pgs., 8/20/00

**AFTERMATH: THE TREE OF LIFE by XWP Fanatic
Set in the world of Xena the Conqueror we first met in the HERCULES episode ARMAGEDDON NOW, this OUTSTANDING tale has the ruthless empress holding a contest to try to determine what "truth" is...with dire consequences for the losers. Undaunted and despite having first-hand knowledge of the woman's cruelty, Gabrielle chooses to participate, driven by this stubborn need to somehow reach the ice cold heart no one else seems capable of breaching. It marks the beginning of a difficult journey for both of them as the Conqueror finds herself intrigued by the young upstart and Gabrielle finds herself suddenly a part of the empress' life - forced to join her on a campaign against the very enemy that helped to make her into the dreaded Destroyer of Nations. Very well written, with a fascinating premise and great characterizations of the Xena and Gabrielle from that alternate world, this one is GUARANTEED to keep you hooked. XWP Fanatic is particularly excelling here in the depiction of the Xena/Gab relationship giving it a gentle quality that is deeply captivating in light of the Conqueror's inate harshness. Put this one at the top of your MUST READ list - it gets my HIGHEST RECOMMENDATION!! [Episode one in the SEVEN WONDERS SERIES] - 173 pgs, 7/16/98
