**AS LONG AS THE EARTH ENDURES by Bracer
Only this bard's second story after the very moving TWO SOULS, this new one is a monster of a story - a long, OUTSTANDING, splendidly written, wonderfully romantic, and solidly crafted novel that will keep you hooked for hours so make sure to reserve some free time before tackling it because this is one you're not going to want to let go. The story begins with the warrior and bard running into their old friend Meleager who desperately needs some help guarding a group of priestesses trying to make their way to a new land they want to call home. One slight little problem though - seems the priestesses celebrate their devotion to the goddess Inanna by offering some VERY popular services and are therefore incredibly in demand - so much so that a number of slavers have banned together determined to enslave the women and all who travel with them. With Amazons along to help guard the caravan, Xena and Gabrielle then join Meleager and the priestesses - only to soon find themselves intrigued by the mysterious high priestess - a woman named Lilith whose origins stem back to the beginning of time itself and who has a strange ability to see into the hearts of others...and to help them recognize what's there. Amidst the adventure of this quest for an earthly paradise, Bracer spins a beautiful tale of romance - taking the Xena/Gab relationship from the uncertainty of feelings yet unspoken, to the giddiness of that first admission of love, to the exhilaration of raw passion and the gentle wonder of two soulmates united at last. Bracer does a terrific job here not only with the characterizations of our two heroines but all of the supporting players as well. Along with some exiting action and some great humor, the story features some of the most...er...interesting battle tactics I've ever read about ;-) - Gives new meaning to a phrase I wont mention here but which I guarantee will come to mind when you're reading this. Set just after season two, Bracer's latest thankfully ignores the inconsistencies and weaknesses of the rift and post-rift episodes, presenting us instead with a story that recalls much of what long-time fans first loved about this show. This is a joy to read. It gets my HIGHEST RECOMMENDATION! - 168 pgs., 11/16/98

**AS ONE JOURNEY ENDS... by T. Novan
The Amazon Royal family get a bit of a workout on their way to a festival and Mel finally meets her match in a small bundle of trouble. Part 99 of the RAISING MELOSA SERIES revisits that playful, on-the-road partnership that gave birth to this family. Lots of teasing and good humor and love make for yet another delightful entry. ASCENSION OF THE WARRIOR PRINCESS by T. Novan

**ASHES ON THE WIND by Jim Kuntz
Jim returns with his very unique brand of Xena fanfic in the final installment of the BATTLE OF THE ZAMA RIDGE TRILOGY. Continuing the story where it left off at the end of WILL OF THE LION, this third entry in the trilogy chronicles a decisive, epic battle as the Great Lion leads the combined forces of the Amazon Nation and the Kingdom of Ithaca against the invading Carthaginians determined to conquer Greece. Before it's over, the land will run with the blood of both friend and foe - an Amazon Queen will prove her mettle, heroes will pass into legend, and a Warrior Princess will rebel in the darkness and savage glory that is her calling. Jim heightens the emotional impact of the story by including some wonderful flashbacks to a happier time for the warrior and bard, projecting a raw passion and a sense of commitment in their relationship that is fantastically appealing. The supporting cast here consists of very well-crafted characters who tend to make a lasting impression even in brief appearances. The battle scenes are breath-taking - fast and furious, suspenseful and rich in description. A fitting conclusion to a fine series by a very talented, original writer, this is a MUST READ folks. HIGHLY RECOMMENDED! - 46 pgs., 9/17/99

**ASKING (THE) by T. Novan
The RAISING MELOSA SERIES continues as the Amazon royal family enjoys a well-deserved vacation and Xena finally hears a request she's been expecting for a while. **ASSASSIN, ORACLE, BARD by Bat Morda
One of Bat's first pieces of fan fiction, this is a suspenseful, poignant, passionate story that begins in a prison where an old enemy of the Warrior Princess goes to find her newest tool for revenge - an assassin named Raven with an uncanny resemblance to someone very, very close to Xena. Meanwhile, a beautiful oracle is having troubling visions involving three women whose lives are linked together - a vision which also predicts the death of one of them... Bat's characterizations are excellent in this particularly in her depiction of Raven whose haunted past and determination to reject all emotion makes her a surprisingly sympathetic figure. The story is engrossing, exceedingly well-written and a definite MUST READ! VERY HIGHLY RECOMMENDED! - 64 pgs., 3/97

**ASSASSINS by Della Street
When assassins stalking Xena and Gabrielle are successful in staging a surprise attack, the Warrior Princess suddenly finds herself questioning the wisdom of the life she has begun to lead with her bard - a life which makes her very happy but could get them both killed. Great depiction of the relationship - HIGHLY RECOMMENDED!! - 23 pgs., 5/1/97

**ASUNDER by Tendre
A unique mixture of drama and the crazy humor Tendre is known for, this FANTASTIC story has the Warrior Princess agreeing to become a general in the army of Phillip, King of Macedon, as he prepares to go to war against the Persians. Xena's hope in taking the position is to be able to offer Gabrielle some stability in their lives but the bard is not as certain about the decision. Gabrielle is immediately suspect of the way in which bards are being used to spread Phillip's propaganda and most importantly, she soon starts to fear the change taking place within Xena as the Warrior Princess once again finds herself in her element, at the head of a great army, preparing for war. With Xena off to fight in Phillip's ill-fated war, Gabrielle remains behind in Athens to fight a battle of her own against enemies who in the king's absence plan to take over the city. Separated from her bard, Xena finally comes to realize just how much Gabrielle means to her but as danger envelopes them both, it is a revelation she may never be able to share with the girl from Potidaea. Written in a semi-script style, this is unlike anything you have ever read before - filled with equal parts hilarious comedy and poignant drama - a story of EPIC proportions that I VERY HIGHLY RECOMMEND!! [NOTE: ASUNDER is available in both general fiction and alternative versions.] [See the sequel BETWEEN BYGONES] - 169 pgs., 5/15/97
