**AWAKENINGS by Friction
A favorite fanfic talent returns with a fabulous new story set in the pre-third season days that finds the Amazons with a disconcerting mystery on their hands when they rescue their unconscious queen and a badly injured Warrior Princess from a pit only to discover that all signs point to a violent struggle having occurred between the two...including a troubling violation. Desperately in love with her partner, Gabrielle insists on standing vigil by the comatose warrior's side as she explains the circumstances that led to their injuries. What she reveals is an emotional story about a relationship in transition as two friends finally confront the deeper feelings between them and deal with the fears that have kept them from acting on those feelings. Complicating matters is the appearance on the scene of an old acquaintance of Xena's - a beautiful warlord and sworn enemy of the Amazons, who could turn out to be the bard's worst nightmare...and the warrior's last hope. Friction's interpretation of the Xena/Gab partnership is a marvelously compelling mixture of passion, tenderness and insecurities that will have you feeling their frustrations and joys right along with them. With a sense of uncertainty thrown in there to keep us guessing, the storyline will have you glued to that PAGE DOWN key. One cautionary note on this one - Friction's descriptive skills are in fine form here so stock up on that Amazon Ice >:) VERY HIGHLY RECOMMENDED! - 86 pgs., 8/30/99
