ALL I EVER NEED by K.P. West - [Alt]
Returning to the Web, this first story by K.P West is a rather original uber piece set in the present day which finds loner Jaime Bennet unemployed and in need of physical therapy after she's diagnosed with a mysterious illness. Her existence becomes a predictable routine until the day a new physical therapist comes into her life sporting the most beautiful green eyes Jamie has ever seen...Nicely emotional storyline with a contemporary feel and a good treatment of a very serious issue. BLIND by Sarah Miller - [Alt]
Simple, yet surprisingly effective, Sarah's latest contribution is reminiscent of the early years between warrior and bard as Xena leaves her partner behind to go on a mysterious mission. Not long afterwards, the bard hears some devastating news and sets out on her own to discover the truth never suspecting how successful she will be in doing just that for herself...and her warrior. **CHOSEN (THE) by Verda - [Alt]
Set in a mythical, medieval world where a sadistic Sovereign rules the land, slaves serve the whim of their masters and women have little say in the course of their lives, Verda's new story is an intriguing, action-packed, fast-paced tale about two very different women from opposite ends of this society who against all odds find in one another the inspiration to change their world and themselves. Daughter of the Sovereign, Lady Roslin is resigned to accepting an arranged marriage to a man she hardly knows when fate intervenes, wrenching her from the comfortable, protected, controlled existence she's known all her life to bring her face to face with the handsome rebel leader leading a slave revolt. An accomplished, fearless warrior, Brice can command thousands but behind the cold blue eyes and warrior garb hides a secret. Forced since birth to live a lie and scarred by a cruel rejection, Brice is committed now to bringing freedom to the land but the sudden appearance of a beautiful little blonde will complicate things - opening old wounds and making the rebel leader vulnerable when Brice can least afford it. In a world of extremes where you are either slave or master and inequalities define the differences between men and women, Brice and Roslin will struggle to find a middle ground, fighting to create a society in which both they and their people will be free to love and be happy and most of all...be themselves. Verda delivers a very entertaining story here with nerve-wracking twists and some very poignant challenges to the relationship. A heartwarming vignette set on a Winter evening that finds Xena and the Gabster staying with the Amazons as they recuperate from their ordeal in Chin...and help an old friend deal with a little problem :) A perfect Solstice tale about the good that can come from even the darkest of times. - 2 pgs., 9/17/98

DARK OF NOON (THE) by Jacqueline
A nicely written, serious story that has Xena going up against a warlord in possession of a deadly weapon given to him by Ares. Motivating her in part is the chance to avenge a hero who's face she saw only in passing years before. Meanwhile Gabrielle tries to come to terms with the possibility of loosing the friend she loves, feeling powerless to do anything about it. - 10/20/97

**DEATH'S BEAUTIFUL DAUGHTER by Nene Adams - [Alt]
Already known for her masterful uber characterizations, Nene tries her hand this time at more traditional Xena fanfic, bringing us a fast-paced, emotional, romantic adventure which features the original warrior and bard and introduces us to a fantastic new character - a young woman named Keriset, raised by devotees of Hades and now the finest assassin in his service. It is an assignment, in fact, that brings her into the lives of Xena and Gabrielle in one of their darkest moments as all three soon find themselves fighting a very determined enemy. Featuring the ever-dashing King of Thieves - Autolycus himself, plenty of Amazons, bad guys, and Olympians this is an entertaining, suspenseful read ultimately grounded in the power of love to overcome and flourish. DRIVEN by Docgirl - [Alt]
This bard's first fanfic effort gets off to a solid start capturing the frenetic energy and drama of a big city hospital ER as surgery resident Joanna Cameron struggles to save a shooting victim. Looking on Detective Lauren Burke finds herself quite impressed with the young doctor - a reaction which Joanna herself shares later when she's introduced to the striking detective. Well written and very atmospheric, this one shows terrific potential. - 9 pgs., 5/7/99

**EATING OUT by DJWP - [Alt]
I have to admit that I'm not entirely sure this story should be listed under alternative fiction :-| It seemed innocent enough. After all - Xena and Gabrielle are simply enjoying a good...meal. Still - something about it just left me a bit suspicious - might have to do with the fact that I read it during lunch time at work and ended up sporting a healthy flush for the rest of the day. Chicken had never quite given me that type of reaction before. Hmmmmm...well, I'll let you all decide. Just be aware that this tale can be dangerous at work - particularly if you like...chicken. It is either a story about one VERY nice meal...or a masterpiece of subtext. One thing you can all be certain about though - it comes VERY HIGHLY RECOMMENDED!! :) - 8 pgs., 11/6/97

FIENDE'S STORY by Fiende
I wanted to let you guys know of this story for a few different reasons. First of all, it's a nice little mystery, as yet unfinished, which has Xena and Gabrielle following the clues in a dream the bard has been having and meeting up with a couple of Norsemen who strangely enough seemed to have been waiting for them to embark of a voyage. Second, this story is located in a new site for Xena Fan Fic, WITE DWARF'S XENA PAGE. Third, the author has added an additional creative touch including artwork with his tale. Is there anything these Xenite bards CAN'T do! ;-) This story maaaay be of the interactive type since the author challenges you to guess what may happen next. - 3/24/97

Janice Covington, the spunky archeologist from XENA SCROLLS and Mel Pappas, her Southern belle of a partner, are back in this tale of discovery that has the two dealing with Mel's jealous fiancee, the antiquities authorities, and their own fears as they learn what their ancestors discovered long ago - that two souls meant to be together will find a way... **FOUR NIGHTS, THREE DAYS by L. Graham - [Alt]
L. Graham continues the story she began in THE SWEETEST DREAMS and later continued in HOMECOMINGS with a new tale that is just as much of a delight to read. This time around the bard and a VERY reluctant warrior travel to Amphipolis where Gabrielle is hoping Xena will be able to reconnect with her mother. Amidst the family reunion, the friends also find themselves dealing with other issues as Gabrielle encourages her partner to come to terms with the past and both begin contemplating some appealing possibilities for the future. As in the earlier stories, L. Graham delivers outstanding characterizations in this, giving us a very human Warrior Princess with doubts, fears, regrets and hopes. Her Gabrielle is equally well done as a devoted, determined, and perceptive young woman who knows what she wants and has the courage to go after it. This is a beautifully executed story about the healing power of love and the peace that comes with listening to one's heart. Including some wonderfully fresh dialogue and some very vivid exchanges, L. Graham's latest is a MUST READ folks! VERY HIGHLY RECOMMENDED!! - 52 pgs., 7/1/98

It's a cold, dark night and one persistent little bard is determined to get as much warmth as possible from her warrior blanket. When nature calls, however, she has to risk a quick trip into the surrounding forest - a very gloomy, eerie forest hiding dangers the bard is about to become intimately acquainted with. **HIGHER EMOTIONS by J.C. Wilder - [Alt]
This story will not only put a grin on your face but will likely have you speaking in a VERY strange tongue by the time you're finished :) It begins at the Temple of Hestia where that ever-so-dedicated Priestess Leah is shocked to discover that the injured young woman just brought in is none other than her friend, Gabwielle! Suffering from amnesia, the young bard can't remember who she is much less who Xena is so on Leah's advice she decides to become a Hestian vuhgin ;-) Soon enough though a slight wrinkle appears in Leah's righteous plans for the young bard when a 6 foot, blue-eyed Wawwia Pwincess shows up looking for her partner and making the new Hestian virgin think...impure thoughts :) Be warned that J.C.'s Leah is gonna have you spitting liquids all over that keyboard. **HOMECOMINGS by L. Graham
In this terrific sequel to THE SWEETEST DREAMS Xena and Gabrielle return to Poteidaia to spend time with the bard's family. It is an enlightening experience for both of them as the warrior gets a glimpse of the life that led Gabrielle to her and the bard, in coming to terms with her past, feels more certain than ever about her choices in the present. L. Graham does a wonderful job here of fleshing out Gabrielle's life in Poteidaia prior to Xena, giving us an insightful look at the experiences that combined to produce the young woman who would change the life of an ex- warlord. Meanwhile, she's also telling Xena's story - showing the insecurities beneath the tough exterior, showing the vulnerabilities that only a bard is ever made privy too - showing how much these two women have come to mean to one another and how devoted they remain in spite of what they've recently survived. This is a story full of heart with outstanding depictions of our two heroines and the very real, solid bond that glues them together. VERY HIGHLY RECOMMENDED! **HUNT FOR RED ULYSSES (THE) by James Fadden - [Alt]
A HUGE threat to the well-being of your funny bone, this hilarious XWP parody was posted on some of the XWP mailing lists around the time the episode ULYSSES first aired. It is now finally available through the Web and it is an absolute MUST READ!!. It has the A.N.S. Artemis, a fleet attack submarine belonging to the Amazon Nation, on a search-and-destroy mission to locate and annihilate the Red Ulysses - a serious threat to all-things subtext on XWP! Commanding the proud A.N.S. Artemis is Captain Ephiny with a loyal crew of the finest amazons. No matter what they do, however, the Red Ulysses just seems to keep on - er - coming...SO, the XADIC - The Xenite Air Defense and Innuendo Command decides to call on a certain "Mad Dog" for assistance! This is a GEM guys!! You don't need to have seen the movie which inspired the title either - this stands all on its own! It does get a DO NOT READ AND DRINK warning because you are going to be spilling and chocking on everything in sight! VERY HIGHLY RECOMMENDED!!! **I DO by Katherine Colson - [Alt]
A delightfully original new uber-Xena story set in modern day Denmark which finds American Quinn Andersen trying to escape a troubled past in the States by moving to Copenhagen. With an offer of marriage from a male friend, Quinn hopes to make the move legal but with time running out on her visa she heads for the immigration office and a fateful encounter with a beautiful young Dane named Lisbet. After running into one another again, Lisbet is soon smitten with the stunning foreigner but very much aware that she's only going to get hurt if she opens her heart to a straight girl - much less one about to get married. Katherine does a terrific job of bringing Denmark and its people to life, making the reader feel at home in Copenhagen and the surrounding areas. Featuring very contemporary uber renditions with histories cleverly drawn to recall the warrior and bard, this is a sweet story of love discovered in unlikely places. HIGHLY RECOMMENDED!! - 25 pgs., 6/10/98

Xena: Warrior Princess meets existential Swedish cinema. What can I say? ;-) An introspective, death-obsessed study of the complex, fatalistic relationship between a warrior and bard. **INSIDE JOB by Della Street - [Alt]
This is my personal favorite Della story and that's saying A LOT since I find all her fiction OUTSTANDING! The combination of humor, suspense, romance and passion in this results in a story guaranteed to touch your heart. With Xena acting the part of the ruthless warlord and Gabrielle masquerading as her slave, the two infiltrate the castle of a ruthless king to search for an elusive peace treaty. Unbeknownst to them, their role-playing is going to reveal feelings they can no longer deny, turning friends into much more and risking both their mission and their lives. VERY HIGHLY RECOMMENDED!!! - 16 pgs., 5/24/97

**KIND (THE) by L. Graham
The Xenaverse bards have GOT to be some of the most creative people involved in storytelling today. If in doubt, seek out this latest gem from the keyboard of L. Graham. It is a really delightful retelling of the episode SINS OF THE PAST...from a "canine point of view" ;-) This one will warm the old ticker and plaster a big grin on your face. One of the most delightful Mel/Janice stories I've read in a long time, L. Graham's latest features a seriously frustrated Melinda Pappas, trying to enlighten a rather clueless archaeologist on the finer aspects of their ancestors' life in Ancient Greece. Relying on somewhat unconventional characterizations of Mel and Janice, this story is guaranteed to charm the heck out of you. Just plain CUTE! VERY HIGHLY RECOMMENDED!! - 13 pgs., 8/10/98

**LUCKY by L. Graham - [Alt]
A while back L. Graham released one of the sweetest, most romantic stories written this year - THE SECOND TIME. Since then she has been understandably besieged by requests for a sequel SOOOOO she now brings us LUCKY which is a PREquel...although she recommends you read THE SECOND TIME first. Got that? ;-) GOOD! Now, as to the story - like the first (or second as the case may be) - EXCEPTIONAL! LUCKY in effect is the tale of HOW a certain bard manages to get Xena into the little predicament the warrior finds herself in at the beginning of THE SECOND TIME. It features a hysterical depiction of a heavily inebriated Warrior Princess and a desperate bard who with some godly assistance is determined to at last reveal feelings too long denied! A MUST READ! HIGHLY RECOMMENDED! - 12/11/97

A *MUST READ* for all of you out there who enjoyed Bat Morda's story IS THERE A DOCTOR ON THE DIG, this little tale acts as a prologue to Bat's now classic piece of fan fiction. Featuring Mel prior to the Mediterranean trip which would change her life forever, Graham's story depicts a southerner who is lonely, who is searching for something - or someone that can make her feel complete. Here at last we get to see the first instance in which a love from the Ancient past touched the ancestors of Xena and Gabrielle. VERY nice! HIGHLY RECOMMENDED! - 10/10/97

PROMISES TO KEEP: A TALE OF SHERWOOD by L. Graham - [Alt]
A poignant, nicely written sequel to L. Graham's first uber-Xena story SHERWOOD which finds Xan of Locksley and her beloved Gabrielle happy at last, awaiting the birth of Gabrielle's baby. Unfortunately it is a happiness they wont be able to enjoy for long as Xan gets word of an impending attack and must go off to fight the forces of Prince John, including a valiant knight who is determined to bring the Butcher of Sherwood to justice. Set in medieval England, it places many of the characters that have appeared on XWP in the world of Robin Hood with some changes here and there. In this tale Robin never lived long enough to face the forces of oppression in Nottingham - but his sister did. It is she who turns a band of thieves and peasants into a force to be reckoned with in Sherwood forest, never forgetting the childhood friend she left behind nor the feelings she was desperately running from. A true comedy of ERRORS, this delightful new tale by Kristo has the warrior and bard traveling to Amphipolis where Xena hopes for a reconciliation of sorts with her uncle Argolis who's son was among those who rallied behind her when she was a warlord and died in the process. Trying to lighten Argolis' mood is the village healer who, certain that the widower loves her but is just too stubborn to admit it, has obtained a love potion that will hopefully do the trick. Unfortunately - or perhaps fortunately ;-) - not all goes as planned as that potion unleashes a set of unexpected events that will give NEW meaning to the title of this little story! An absolutely DELIGHTFUL story featuring a truly beautiful, tenderly poignant interpretation of the relationship between warrior and bard. Fulfilling an old promise, Xena surprises her best friend with a trip to Thessaloniki to attend the reknown play festival held there every autumn. For the young bard it's a dream come true but for the warrior a nightmare in the making as she anticipates loosing the most precious thing in her life. Graham skillfully captures the sweetness, the fun and the frustration of the Xena/Gab exchanges.
