TUESDAY FAN FICTION REPORT - 11/10/98
[Previous report was for 11/8/98]

3 new ones, 3 updates and 3 new FANFIC ART offerings :)

GENERAL FICTION:

I HAVE MANY HELP FILES... by Xenrielle
In the tradition of Joanna's A TREE GROWS IN MESOPOTAMIA comes yet another entry in the growing crop of uber-Xena stories featuring...non-humans ;-) Xenrielle's latest is about two computers that meet in a shop and are soon sharing their files, fighting for the greater good as one of them tries to overcome a dark past of spreading viruses and disrupting networks. This one has some lines in there certain to leave you grinning. - 5 pgs.

ALTERNATIVE FICTION:

FAMILY AFFAIRS by Xero
A beautiful story about love and family and friends set before the events of the third season which finds Xena and the bard unexpectedly running into Solon who's been visiting a neighboring centaur village. Xena's decision to accompany him back there is one they'll soon regret when the head of that village, a very bitter former enemy of the Warrior Princess jumps at the opportunity to finally bring the Destroyer of Nations to justice. Running against time, Gabrielle and Solon desperately look for a way to help the warrior as the possibility of war looms between two nations and long-held secrets are finally revealed. In her first fanfic offering ever, Xero brings us a tale with all the right ingredients - a hero willing to sacrifice everything for those she loves, a bard whose love and determination know no limits, loyal friends ready for any challenge and a young boy with the courage of his mother and a heart very much like that of the bard he so loves. This story feels like "classic" Xena. It's a thoroughly satisfying tale that will keep you glued to that keyboard 'til the end. VERY HIGHLY RECOMMENDED! - 56 pgs.

THE APPRENTICE by Bel-wah
A very nicely written second effort by an author that is quickly making an impression in XWP fanfic, this tale has the Warrior and bard meeting an old acquaintance of Xena's now traveling with a young man supposedly seeking justice for the wrongs done to him years before. After deciding to help, Xena and Gabrielle must then try to understand the enigma that is the young apprentice while searching for the truth behind his strange relationship with Xena's friend. Bel-wah presents us with a solid treatment of the Xena/Gab partnership in a story about mistakes and second chances. Blending clever humor with a very heartfelt, gentle love, this is a thoughtful tale you'll want to put on your MUST READ list. DO NOT MISS! - 21 pgs.

OKTOBERFEST by Redhawk
Part six is now available. This sequel to Redhawk's fantastic HIGHLANDER/XWP crossover tale, ONLY ONE begins on a plane bound for Europe on the first leg of a vacation Xena hopes will further aid in the recuperation of her young lover Rickie Gardner. Still suffering from horrific nightmares, Rickie is nevertheless flourishing in the warrior's company - starting to remember a life from very long ago and looking forward to a second chance with her soulmate. Unbeknownst to them, however, others are watching and waiting...knowing the life of an immortal will not be peaceful for long. In this latest section Rickie begins to suspect all may not be right with an old friend of Xena's. Picking up where ONLY ONE left off, this story features a riveting, suspenseful plot and a strengthening of the Xena/Rickie connection. Definitely one for the MUST READ list. HIGHLY RECOMMENDED! [unfinished] - 19 pgs.

OF DRAG KINGS AND A WARRIOR PRINCESS by Susan Smith
Chapter 15 is now available. This talented writer tries her hand at uber fiction this time around, producing a very different, very original contemporary story. Rosalind Olchawski considers herself a fairly ordinary college professor leading a fairly ordinary life - a life so ordinary and so bland, in fact, that recently Rosalind has started to wonder whether she's even capable of feeling that passion others seem to feel. It is a concern that is answered one evening when she accompanies a friend to a club and discovers in the startling blue eyes of a drag king the destiny she had been waiting for. In this latest chapter the relationship intensifies. Very well written, with characterizations that are sensitively done and an intriguing storyline this one should keep you hitting that page down button. [unfinished] - 3 pgs.

THE AMAZONS OF DAHOMEY by Susan Smith
Chapter 20 is now available. A sequel to Susan's outstanding THE CHARIOTEER, this story continues where that one left off, following Xena and Gabrielle as they join a caravan on their way out of the Kingdom of Har back toward Greece. The two are reveling in the new freedom of their relationship unaware that fate is about to interfere once again throwing Gabrielle and a young Amazon initiate into the midst of deadly power play and leaving a desperate Xena looking for her soulmate in a land full of strangers all with agendas of their own. In this latest chapter a Greek hero proves her mettle helping to heal the pain of an entire nation. This story again displays Susan's impressive ability to develop suspenseful, engrossing plots around an equally well-crafted Xena/Gab relationship. HIGHLY RECOMMENDED! [unfinished] - 4 pgs.
