SUNDAY FAN FICTION REPORT - 11/23/97
[Previous report was for 11/21/97]
Hi guys,
First of all I want to alert you to a couple of problems with some of the fan fiction pages. For those of you who've been getting error messages when you try to go to Joan Leib's XENA STUFF page at: http://www.englishchick.com/fic/xena/
try instead this URL:
http://www.englishchick.com/fic/xena/xws.htm
Also, DAX's main OBSESSION PAGE located at http://www.obsession14.com/fiction.html is temporarily down. HOWEVER, her fan fiction page is working fine. You can go directly to it by using this URL: http://www.obsession14.com/XenaRotica/fanindex.html
The Web sites above both feature alt. fiction.
Meanwhile, over at the XENA: WARRIOR PRINCESS FAN FICTION INDEX Xenos is now making available some of the statistics from the site. The new WEBSTATS page offers a wealth of interesting information including statistics on the most popular files accessed at the site, the number of new stories released each month, and a breakdown of the countries from which visitors herald (did you know Xena even has fans in places like
Slovenia!!! ;-) The WEBSTATS page is located at:

Three new ones tonight and an anxiously anticipated conclusion :)
GENERAL FICTION:
THE PRIZE by Wishes
Wishes has become known for producing among other things some exceptional Mel/Janice stories. This newest one is very likely her best one to date! I haven't had this much fun reading a story in a long time! It is a FANTASTIC blend of those good old fashion WWII war/spy movies with a horror motif and of course - Mel and Janice!! Just be warned that you may not
have any nails left at the end of this tale! The story has our intrepid archeologist and her tall, blue-eyed partner accepting a mission, with Janice posing as one of Hitler's deadliest interrogators, that will take them into Nazi-controlled Transylvania where rumors abound of a deadly, new German secret weapon. It is a mission that will bring them face to face with horrors both ancient and new and which once again will reinforce
the link between them and a warrior and bard long-dead. The story is chock full of action and intrigue but it is the loyalty between the two friends, their love and concern for one another that stands out. A GREAT read that comes VERY HIGHLY RECOMMENDED! Note: The story contains subtext.

THE EVENING'S TALE by Silk
This little vingette has Gabrielle telling the Warrior Princess a tale of heroism! - of a brave warrior facing a deadly winged creature and of the horrible fight which ensues! It is a tale from Xena's own life...although the bard DOES tend to exaggerate juuuuuuust a tad... ;-) This is VERY, very cute. A fun read!

ALTERNATIVE FICTION:
DREAMS OF THE NILE by Rebecca
The author of the incomparable HEAVEN DOWN HERE and one of my other favorite stories, HER GABRIELLE: A RESPONSE returns with yet another winner - a passionate story about love lost and love rediscovered. A dramatic incident causes Xena to start remembering a painful part of her past - a time after which she closed her heart determined to never share it again. Only she faces now the greatest challenge to that resolution - a
challenge in the form of a persistent little bard who desperately wants to open that heart... This is poignant and sensual. DO NOT MISS!!

WINTER'S ENDING by Melissa Good
The concluding parts 7-8 of this story are now available. With Missy Good in our folds, Xenites have to simply be the LUCKIEST fans on the Net. As with all her novels to date, this EXCEPTIONAL work is a sequel to what has gone before so if you haven't read Missy's previous novels treat yourself to the experience. In order they are A WARRIOR BY ANY OTHER NAME, AT A DISTANCE, HOME IS WHERE THE HEART IS and BOUND. Set after the events in BOUND, the beginning of this novel chronicles a quiet time in the lives of the Warrior Princess and her bard. Having faced adversity, struggled with old wounds from the past and deadly enemies in their present, having finally surrendered to the love which binds their minds, their hearts and souls as one, Xena and Gabrielle have settled in Amphipolis for the Winter. With a home of their own at long last, family surrounding them and a joining to look forward to, their happiness seems assured. The Winter is hard, however, and long and before it is over warrior and bard will once again face new challenges. In these final chapters things come to ahead as Gabrielle becomes determined to protect
the innocent lives in her care and Xena must face both physical and emotional tests. Missy's depiction of the Xena/Gabrielle relationship remains second to none. In this story she continues the technique she started using in BOUND, offering flashbacks of past events in the lives of Xena and Gabrielle. These are often as emotional and captivating as the greater story, adding depth to the already outstanding characterizations. There is a warm, poignant beauty to Missy's writing that just dazzles the soul. I have no doubt that even people who have never seen XWP would be
hooked if they read a Missy story. Sit back and enjoy folks because we have some wonderful weeks ahead of us as this story unfolds. As with everything to date that has come from the Good keyboard - it is NOT TO BE MISSED and gets my HIGHEST RECOMMENDATION! Note: This story is not explicit.

For those of you reading this post who are not familiar with the term alternative (alt.), it refers to ADULT stories that add a romantic element to the relationship between Xena and Gabby, depicting them as more than just friends.
Happy reading!
