SATURDAY FAN FICTION REPORT - 11/29/97

Hi guys,

There's a new fan fiction site called THE FAN FICTION CHRONICLES. You can find it at: http://www.geocities.com/Hollywood/Academy/9707/ff.html

Meanwhile Chris KNery is offering a rather original new fan fiction site with links to XWP stories which are based on particular episodes. The FAN FICTION STORIES BASED ON EPISODES page is located at: http://knerys.simplenet.com/xena/fanfic/episodes.html

If any of you bards out there have written or are writing stories based directly on the events in any of the episodes I urge you to contact Chris so your story can be linked through this page. The listings on Chris' page are BY EPISODE so if anyone has a favorite episode they can immediately see what stories have been written about it.

Also available now is a tribute to that beloved mut, Ares (Roo!!!) and his creator, the incomparable Missy Good. GENERAL FICTION:

SWORD OF ARES by JayBird
Set in the 1960's this is an action-packed story with some VERY amusing moments that has Xena and Gabrielle returning to inhabit the bodies of Mel and Janice in order to try to stop Ares' latest attempt at power. Despite being a little rounder around the edges and sporting some gray hair, the warrior and bard are determined to stop their old nemesis only they don't suspect the trump card Ares is waiting to play. A very original treatment of these two friends.

THE LONG ROAD FROM CHINA by Gershwhen
Part two of this story is now available. Gershwhen's first attempt at fan fiction is an intriguing, well-written new story that begins immediately after the events in THE DEBT II: BETRAYAL. It has the warrior and bard walking away from the Green Dragon's castle and then beginning the healing process in their relationship as each tries to understand what has happened and how they can recapture the trust and easiness they once had with each other. In this latest section, as they sail back to Greece, Xena learns that Gabrielle's trip over to Chin was not an easy one. This offering is not yet finished but it is very promising. Note: The story contains subtext. HIGHLY RECOMMENDED!

THINGS THAT WE BELIEVE IN by Ed
Set four years before the episode WARRIOR PRINCESS which introduced the character of Xena, this story looks at a time in the warrior's life when despite the violence surrounding her she found solace in the love of a devoted lieutenant - a warrior by the name of Petricles. Together the two start thinking about a future together but others have different plans for the Warrior Princess. This is well-written and offers an interesting interpretation of the relationship between Xena and Petricles during her years as a warlord.

XENA SHOPPING NETWORK (XSN) by Tendre
After an absence during which she's been heartedly missed by her fans, Tendre returns with what she does best - one HILARIOUS new parody! Universal has signed a deal allowing the creation of a new network - the Xena Shopping Network!! Hosting of course are those delightful twosome - Lucy and Renee - pitching all sorts of nifty products from some - er - "educational" videos to dollies designed for different audiences! ;-) Note: Tons of subtext - nothing graphic. This one is NOT TO BE MISSED folks! Keep all liquids away from that keyboard! :)

ALTTERNATIVE FICTION:

THE LONGEST NIGHT by Melissa Good
Starting immediately where WINTER'S ENDING left off, Missy's latest novel immediately captures the heart and the imagination with the very distinctive style of storytelling that fan fiction afficionados have come to recognize as among the best the Xenaverse has to offer. Still in Amphipolis where Gabrielle has been recovering from her recent ordeal, Xena and the bard learn from some refugees of the activities of raiders in the surrounding areas. Worried for Gabrielle's family who will be traveling to Amphipolis to attend their planned joining ceremony, the two decide to head out to meet them. Despite their genuine concern, the decision reflects a growing need they've both had to return to the freedom of life on the road - the freedom to enjoy the closeness they now share and the natural world that was their only home for so long - only the beauty of that world can be deceptive, hiding dangers both natural and man-made. Missy continues in this story to look at the deepening love between these two women - exploring how this love is allowing one heart to flourish and the other to start healing at last. There's nothing quite like the feeling you get when you read a Missy story folks. This bard knows how to touch all the right buttons. Should come as no surprise to anyone who's read her previous novels that this one gets my HIGHEST RECOMMENDATION!

PASSION UNCHAINED by April
Chapter eight of this story is now available. This is a dark, passionate tale that has Xena struggling with the feelings she's having for Gabrielle, struggling especially against the terrible fear that she will end up hurting her young companion. This latest part has the warrior and bard dealing with the emotions they have unleashed in each other.

For those of you reading this post who are not familiar with the term alternative (alt.), it refers to ADULT stories that add a romantic element to the relationship between Xena and Gabby, depicting them as more than just friends.
