THE CAUSE by Hobbes
Nice Uber-Xena tale set during the turmoil of the Mexican War which has a bitter outlaw named Duena waging her own war against the Yankees who butchered her family. Caught in the middle is a young American woman whose destiny is soon entwined with that of the Mexican bandolera changing both of their lives forever.

CALLISTO AND GABRIELLE by Joseph Anderson
Dark, thoughtful piece that has Callisto visiting Xena and Gabrielle's camp, surprisingly enough just to speak with the bard. An uneasy Xena can't help but feel suspicious of the blonde warlord's motivations, only she finds herself understanding these well-enough later when Callisto unexpectedly joins forces with them.

This amusing little story is the latest in de Bonheur's LONG IS THE WAY series. Set among the Amazons, it has Xena devicing a clever little plan to help her bard avoid some royal duties the warrior REALLY does not want the young queen fulfilling...at least not with anyone other than her. Cute. ;-)

For those of you reading this post who are not familiar with the term alternative (alt.), it refers to ADULT stories that add a romantic element to the relationship between Xena and Gabby, depicting them as more than just friends.
