GENERAL FICTION:

JOURNEY INTO DARKNESS by Godot
This is the third installment in a trilogy which began with EMBODIMENT OF EVIL and then continued in THE SOUL CATCHER. It is also the fourth Godot story featuring the zany sorceress Antipany first introduced in SING YOU A SONG OF JUSTICE. This tale picks up immediately where THE SOUL CATCHER left of, with Xena, Gabrielle, Antipany and several of their friends heading for a confrontation with the evil wizard Kryptus. Xena and Antipany meanwhile, are heading for a confrontation of their own, each aware that regardless of the mission's outcome, there is unfinished business between them they will have to settle once and for all. This is a rousing, action-packed conclusion to a trilogy that has featured good characterizations throughout and some nice emotional moments. There is some very mild subtext in this. HIGHLY RECOMMENDED!

WOUNDS, WORDS AND WISDOM by Piscia
This hurt/comfort story depicts the Xena/Gab relationship in a way that is particularly reminiscent of the TV show's first season, with Xena having trouble expressing her emotions and the bard holding on to the fear that the Warrior Princess will leave her behind someday. It is this fear that keeps Gabrielle from revealing an injury when she's hurt in a fight. This one will warm the heart. VERY nice!

A CROWN OF LAUREL by Silk
Part three of this story is now available. This is a VERY promising new story by a new writer which has Callisto orchestrating a devious trap for the Warrior Princess and bard - a trap which will lead them right into the hands of one of Xena's deadliest and oldest enemies. In this latest part, the Warrior Princess learns what her fate will be as she is taken to the center of an empire. This story is the first piece of fan fiction set after the events in the episode GABRIELLE'S HOPE. It is well written and intriguing. HIGHLY RECOMMENDED!!

ALTERNATIVE FICTION:

EATING OUT by DJWP
I have to admit that I'm not entirely sure this story should be listed under ALTERNATIVE FICTION :-| It seemed innocent enough. After all - Xena and Gabrielle are simply enjoying a good...meal. Still - something about it just left me a bit suspicious - might have to do with the fact that I read it during lunch time at work and ended up sporting a healthy flush for the rest of the day. Chicken had never quite given me that type of reaction before. Hmmmmm...well, I'll let you all decide. Just be aware that this tale can be dangerous at work - particularly if you like...chicken. It is either a story about one VERY nice meal...or a masterpiece of subtext. One thing you can all be certain about though - it comes VERY HIGHLY RECOMMENDED!! :)

TRICK OF THE MOONLIGHT by DJWP
This is one of the entries from the recent Halloween Bard Contest - a poignant, haunting story about a love lost and the tragedy of war. Xena and Gabrielle are visiting the bard's uncle when he tells them a story about the battle which took place on a nearby meadow where amidst the fighting a young woman was cut down as she tried to reach her lover. Local legends has it that her spirit still haunts the area, forevermore trying to pull warriors into the safety of her arms. This is nicely written and spooky.

SURFACING by Paul Seely and Jennifer Garza
Part 13 of this story is now available. An exceedingly well-written, highly original uber-Xena tale that will have you spell-bound from chapter one! Set in the present day, it revolves around the mysterious activities of a secret agent going by the name of Diana Starret. On assignment from the shadowy, top-secret organization who once recruited her when she had little choice in the matter, Diana's mission is to keep a dangerous criminal from landing in prison until the full extent of his operation has been revealed. It is this assignment that leads her to a fateful meeting with a young lawyer named Charlotte Browning. The two women are inexplicably drawn to one another and soon find themselves haunted by the same dream - about a leather-clad warrior drowning in blood and the strawberry blonde trying to save her. This latest part is simply RIVETING as Diana faces the demons of her past and at long last begins...surfacing. As yet unfinished, this story just keeps getting better! VERY HIGHLY RECOMMENDED!!

For those of you reading this post who are not familiar with the term alternative (alt.), it refers to ADULT stories that add a romantic element to the relationship between Xena and Gabby, depicting them as more than just friends.
