Four new ones and two updates tonight.

ALTERNATIVE FICTION:

BACCHAE VERSUS VAMPIRE by Chris M
The latest offering in Katrina's BLOOD AND ROSES SERIES, this new story is a XWP/BUFFY THE VAMPIRE SLAYER crossover tale chronicling the first ever encounter between the Daughter of Bacchus and the ruthless bloodsuckers that thousands of years later would so consistently keep Buffy in business. Lying beside her partner in an ancient forest Gabrielle senses something amiss in the natural order of things - a darkness emanating from a creature she's never seen before - a creature who despite sharing her hunger for blood, exudes a cruelty and an irreverence for life that marks him as something very different from her, something... that must be stopped. Chris does a wonderful job giving this piece an eerie, mystical feel. The characterization of Gabrielle as the Daughter of Bacchus is on the money as is that of the bloodsuckers from the world of BUFFY THE VAMPIRE SLAYER. This is a terrific "origins" story detailing the first confrontation between two of the legendary foes in this BLOOD AND ROSES SERIES. DO NOT MISS! HIGHLY RECOMMENDED! - 9 pgs.

This sequel to Stoley's uber tale NEW PATHS continues the story of Dr. Taylor Morgan and Sarah Albright - both survivors of domestic violence who having discovered a very special connection between one another are now trying to build a life together. Unfortunately, the past has a way of coming back to haunt you when loose ends are left untied and in Taylor's past one MAJOR loose end remains. The story features a nice gradual development of the relationship and a good treatment of a sensitive subject. - 11 pgs.

BURNING CANDLE (THE) by AH-Ladis
The conclusion is now available. Set in a foreign land and featuring a very original premise, this action-packed story finds Xena and Gabrielle in Syria fighting the invading Roman legions when an injury robs Gabrielle of the Warrior Princess she knows and loves, leaving in her place a confused, scared stranger the bard must struggle to protect against the enemies closing in. AH-Ladis does a wonderful job with the treatment of the relationship in this, imbuing it with a sense of commitment and love and trust capable of overcoming the greatest of challenges. The characterizations are captivating - Gabrielle at her best and Xena at her most vulnerable, stripped of her warrior identity but left with an unwavering belief and love in the beautiful lady who seems so determined to protect her. Excellent writing in a thoroughly engrossing read. HIGHLY RECOMMENDED! [finished] - 77 pgs.

OF DRAG KINGS AND A WARRIOR PRINCESS by Susan Smith
Chapter 21 is now being posted. This talented writer tries her hand at uber fiction this time around, producing a very different, very original contemporary story. Rosalind Olchawski considers herself a fairly ordinary college professor leading a fairly ordinary life - a life so ordinary and so bland, in fact, that recently Rosalind has started to wonder whether she's even capable of feeling that passion others seem to feel. It is a concern that is answered one evening when she accompanies a friend to a club and discovers in the startling blue eyes of a drag king the destiny she had been waiting for. In this latest chapter Rosalind faces the music. Very well written, with characterizations that are sensitively done, a twist of the uber theme and an intriguing storyline this one should keep you hitting that page down button. HIGHLY RECOMMENDED! For those of you reading this post who are not familiar with the term alternative (alt.), it refers to ADULT stories that add a romantic element to the relationship between Xena and Gabrielle, depicting them as more than just friends.
