FRIDAY FAN FICTION REPORT - 12/18/98

Hi all,

The files at my Web site containing reviews of uber and warlord/slave stories were getting just a tad to big for their electronic britches so I did the Xena thing and made them smaller >:) There's more of them now but they should load quicker too. This change should NOT affect indexers or webmasters who link to the reviews since in most cases I believe the links are to the two main alphabetical files for alternative and general fanfic reviews not the smaller category files. GENERAL FICTION:

WHISTLING DOWN THE WIND by Nene Adams
Based on the short story, "O, Whistle and I'll Come to You My Lad" by E.F. Benson, this is a decidedly EERIE new offering set on a cold, rainy night that has the warrior and bard seeking shelter in a crowded in with only one room left. Despite the inn-keeper's panicky reluctance to rent them the room, the two insist, dismissing the man's concern as the usual type of superstition they've come across in the past at small villages. Only this time, it isn't superstition they'll be up against - but a very real, and very deadly evil lying in wait for that next unsuspecting victim... The story unfolds through a series of alternating scenes which very effectively build the suspense, imparting a growing trepidation on readers and characters alike. Well- written and executed, this is one to read late at night right before going to bed - preferably on a rainy night when the wind is howling. A terrific read that comes HIGHLY RECOMMENDED!! - 8 pgs.

THE KINK AND HOW TO WORK IT by Penumbra
The first in Penumbra's very well-written, very sophisticated, and very eyebrow-raising KINK series, this contemporary uber tale introduces London Police Detective Della Covington, a smart, beautiful Southern blue-blood working in London through an exchange program with Scotland Yard. Investigating a gruesome murder, Della follows a hunch that leads her to an obscure club known as The Rapture and its enigmatic owner, Ghislaine du Plessis, a tall, stunning beauty with a mysterious past, powerful connections and blue eyes that draw the detective like a moth to a flame. THE KINK AND WAYS TO ENJOY IT by Penumbra
Set several months after THE KINK AND HOW TO WORK IT, this sequel has Ghis and Della happily making a life together when an old friend of the club owner asks for help investigating an apparent case of corporate espionage. Before long the two are more involved than they ever thought they'd be as motivations very different from those they had originally suspected start to surface, adding a new sense of danger to their lives just as Della is trying to deal with the imminent arrival of her parents. This second story in the series adds wonderful depth to the relationship in a suspenseful, fast-pased plot once again crafted around a very intriguing, erotically charged, committed partnership. An ominous sense of danger permeates the beginning of this new offering which continues the series successful mixture of strong characterizations, clever storylines, a committed relationship and kink ;-) DO NOT MISS! MISCELLANEOUS MISDEMEANORS by Blackgabby
An English translation of a German original, this nutty little tale follows the antics of one grumpy ex-warlord and a not so virginal bard while on vacation in Amazonia. Keeping the nuttiness factor very much in mind, this one will encourage some grins. - 5 pgs.
