TUESDAY FAN FICTION REPORT - 12/22/98

Hi guys,

A reminder to all creative types out there - the wonderful people at SWORD AND STAFF need your help! :) For those of you who aren't familiar with this organization, "Sword and Staff was born in June of 1996 shortly after the first New York City XenaFest. Comprised entirely of Xena: Warrior Princess fans, the organization has gone from merely tracking donations made by Xena fans to actively organizing and participating in Xena fan activities focused around raising money for charitable organizations." SWORD AND STAFF is currently planning an online "Fan Fiction Auction" for sometime early next year to benefit the International Society for Prevention of Child Abuse and Neglect (ISPCAN). In order to hold the auction they need donations from Xenite bards and artists. They are asking bards to donate a copy of one (or more) of their stories with a SIGNED cover OR to donate audio tapes of their stories. FANFIC ARTists are also welcomed to contribute. ALTERNATIVE FICTION:

OUT OF SARAJEVO by Poto
Poto's fanfic debut is an absolutely gripping uber experience guaranteed to leave a very lasting impression. Set amidst the horrors of the civil war in modern day Sarajevo, the story opens with a grizzly scene as photojournalist Taylor Wilson tries to chronicle the bloody aftermath of yet another attack on the city's terrified residents. Helping the wounded, army officer Alex Ryan cares little about the photographer's dedication to her job wanting only her assistance with those wounded. It is a surprised Taylor then who later finds the tall, beautiful army officer at her door wanting to recruit her for a very secretive and very dangerous mission. Resuming a partnership as old as time, the two set in motion a plan that will unknowingly reunite two halves of a soul, pitting them against overwhelming odds and proving once again that indeed...courage can change the world. Including some terrific, heart-stopping action sequences, this story further elevates itself above the rest with beautifully drawn characterizations of two very believable contemporary heroines. Driven by a sense of urgency and the knowledge of an uncertain future, the relationship they form in very little time is among the most deeply stirring I've read in a while. Poignant and reaffirming at the same time, this one will have you smiling one minute and then reaching for that kleenex box the next. Additionally, Poto's story is a wonderful tribute to the photojournalists who risk their lives every day in order to bring attention to the many injustices and atrocities still very much a part of our world. A MUST READ folks! It gets my HIGHEST RECOMMENDATION! - 30 pgs.

DEFILER by Kerabe
Proving that there is no rest for the wicked, this eerie little story has Xena desperately trying to fight the evil magic of an ancient tablet. Good symbolism in this. - 3 pgs.

COMPLICATIONS by Gin
Part 6 is now available. Gin continues the captivating tale she began in NEGOTIATIONS with a very promising new sequel that finds the Conqueror and the Queen of the Amazons now very happy trying to make a life for themselves in a world filled with responsibilities, and dangers and reputations to maintain. First up will be the challenge of a separation as Xena is called away to resolve problems in Chin and the young queen must try to deal with her loneliness amidst dangers that are much too close to home. In this latest part, the Conqueror and the Amazons clean house in Poteidaia. Gin continues here imbuing the relationship between Conqueror and Queen with a wonderful mixture of tenderness, love and fierce passion. She crafts a well-written tale that includes a strong cast of supporting characters, some very surprising twists and some intriguing problems for our heroines to overcome. A worthy entry in the fascinating conqueror genre. DO NOT MISS! [unfinished] - 23 pgs.

THE KINK AND POINT IN IT by Penumbra
The conclusion is now available. The third in Penumbra's KINK SERIES, this latest tale has the beautiful LPD detective and the sexy club owner facing yet another challenge when a group of religious fundamentalists target The Rapture, determined to close it and punish its depraved owner by any means possible. In this latest section, Ghis goes hunting...An ominous sense of danger permeates the beginning of this new offering which continues the series' successful mixture of strong characterizations, clever storylines, a committed relationship and kink ;-) DO NOT MISS! [An IMPORTANT cautionary note here - featuring an exploration of the BDSM scene (that stands for bondage, domination, and sado-masochism folks) this story definitely lives up to its title so make sure to read the disclaimers first.] [finished] - 33 pgs.

For those of you reading this post who are not familiar with the term alternative (alt.), it refers to ADULT stories that add a romantic element to the relationship between Xena and Gabrielle, depicting them as more than just friends.
