GENERAL FICTION:

COME PLAY by Kronus
A suspenseful new story by a new bard which has Xena and Gabrielle trying to decipher the mystery surrounding the disembodied voice Xena keeps hearing whenever danger is near. With only three chapters released so far, this tale is already quite promising.

THE LONG ROAD FROM CHINA by Gershwhen
Part three of this story is now available. Gershwhen's first attempt at XWP fan fiction is an intriguing, nicely written new story that begins immediately after the events in THE DEBT II: BETRAYAL. It has the warrior and bard walking away from the Green Dragon's castle and then beginning the healing process in their relationship as each tries to understand what has happened and how they can recapture the trust and easiness they once had with each other. In this latest section, still aboard the ship taking them back to Greece, Xena learns more about her companion's trip to Chin. This offering is not yet finished but it is already VERY well crafted. Note: The story contains subtext. HIGHLY RECOMMENDED!

ALTERNATIVE FICTION:

CHIAROSCURO PART VI: WALK THROUGH FIRE by SL Bowers
Bowers' extraordinary CHIAROSCURO SERIES finally comes to an end with this VERY worthy final installment. The story has Xena, Gabrielle and the Amazons traveling to the city of Argon where they will join other troops in a combined effort to try to stop the advancing forces of Imperial Rome. For Xena the past and the present come together as finally she has a chance to avenge the wrongs done to her so long ago - but remembering the gentle bard who now loves her, the warrior cannot help but wonder at what cost that revenge will come. For Gabrielle it is a moment of decision when she might at last find herself facing the darkness within the warrior whose light she so loves. Masterfully written, this story and the entire series features a very insightful look at who Xena and Gabrielle are along with a fascinating exploration of the dynamics at work in their relationship. This is passionate, and wonderfully entertaining. HIGHLY RECOMMENDED!!

WHEN WE DANCE, WHO LEADS? by LZClotho
Set just after the event's in Clotho's earlier story NEW TERRITORY, this is a very different alt. story that has Xena and the bard a bit at odds as they work on the dynamics of their new physical relationship. Aside from trying to deal with Xena's constant need for control, the two soon realize they may sometimes not be quite...in synch ;-) This is an original, realistic tale, sensitively told and well-presented.

For those of you reading this post who are not familiar with the term alternative (alt.), it refers to ADULT stories that add a romantic element to the relationship between Xena and Gabby, depicting them as more than just friends.
