TUESDAY FAN FICTION REPORT - 2/16/99
[Previous report was for 2/14/99]

Hi all,

Those artists are on a roll! Miguel Cura has opened a Web site called GABWHACKED - THE FAN ART OF MIGUEL CURA featuring his XWP art and including a number of fanfic art pieces. We're VERY lucky to have a talent like this in the Xenaverse folks - MAKE SURE to drop by this delightful site at: http://www.technologix.org/gabwhacked/

Also, CHAKRAM-1'S XENA WP PAGE now has available an extensive collection of art, including fanfic art, by a number of different artists. Some really outstanding stuff here along with comments from the artists. The ORIGINAL ARTWORK page is at http://members.wbs.net/homepages/c/h/a/chakram1/art.html

A reminder that Tim Wellman's THE JOURNEY CONTINUES site located at http://www.timwellman.ramlink.net/xena/ will be closing March 1, 1999. There are a number of terrific stories on there so make sure to visit before then and save any you like. Hopefully most of them will be made available at other sites but if you like a story don't take the chance - save it.

On behalf of present and future fanfic readers I'd like to appeal to the bards who do have their stories at Tim's site to PLEASE keep your fanfic available by moving it to another site once Tim's closes. Many of these stories are just too good to loose. The fanfic indexes maintain a list of the available fanfic sites on the Web. You can find the URLs to the indexes at: https://lunacyreviews.ausxip.com/reference.htm#XWP_indexes.

Tim will be removing his own fan fiction from the Web. Already unavailable and newly added to my LOST STORIES section are the following:

I also added three stories by L. Graham who recently removed her fanfic as well.

The LOST STORIES section is at https://lunacyreviews.ausxip.com/loststories.htm

Good news about a couple of those lost stories I mentioned in my previous report. P.L. Nunn's BETHROTAL and E.A Week's JUSTICE have been found :) I include the reviews below with the new URLs. P.L. has some of her XWP fiction available at her own site which includes non-Xena fanfic. The site is located at: http://www.geocities.com/Area51/Dreamworld/4922/

GENERAL FICTION

JUSTICE by E.A. Week
A very solid, wonderfully suspenseful new story that has Xena and the bard visiting a mysterious tribe of Amazons whom Gabrielle soon realizes her partner seems to be more familiar with than she's willing to admit. As the only witnesses to a vicious attack on one of the younger Amazons, the two are soon trust into a web of intrigue reaching to the very halls of Olympus while challenging Xena to put old hatreds aside in order to make sure justice is done. This is a nicely crafted story that doesn't give anything away as it slowly unravels one mystery after another. With good characterizations of all the principals and a nice tie-in with the series itself, this is a MUST READ! HIGHLY RECOMMENDED! - 37 pgs., 5/25/98

THE BETROTHALby P.L. Nunn
Very unusual and at times amusing story about the God of War which has Ares leaving his usual responsibilities to Strife's care while he pursues more urgent business - to try to find a stolen Argo so he can return the mare to Xena. Little does he suspect he's about to become involved in a somewhat heated quarrel between two foreign deities - one of whom finds herself suddenly very interested in the War God. - 29 pgs., 5/18/97

ALTERNATIVE FICTION

THE ONE THAT GOT AWAY by Bel-Wah
Sensitively told, poignant tale that begins with a vacation of sorts for warrior and bard as Xena finds herself having too much fun by a favorite fishing spot to consider moving on any time soon. That happens to be fine with her partner who is dead set on catching a fish and doing it her way. Before long, however, the two have more than fishing to worry about when they find themselves with a visitor - a little runaway named Pip who's determined to honor his dead brother's memory by becoming a warrior just like him. For Xena the boy stirs both painful memories and an acute feeling of deja-vu, recalling the fair-head son she had so little time with and recalling also the anger of a young woman who long ago embraced darkness after the death of her brother. Bel-Wah paints a very likeable and deeply sympathetic picture of the Warrior Princess here as she struggles to save another from the mistakes that forever changed her. Complementing her, the bard is funny and supportive in a tale that is entertaining and ultimately very satisfying. HIGHLY RECOMMENDED! - 16 pgs.

THE PARTY by T. Novan
The RAISING MELOSA SERIES continues with a party in honor of Xenas f...well...er...one of her birthdays, just as the warrior is experiencing a mid-life crisis. Nice feel-good tale. DO NOT MISS! - 6 pgs.
https://ausxip.com/fanfic6/theparty.html

IN THE DOGHOUSE by T. Novan
One of the most amusing entries in the RAISING MELOSA SERIES, this little gem has the warrior getting in some hot water over a new addition to her family. Very cute. DO NOT MISS! - 7 pgs.
https://ausxip.com/fanfic6/inthedoghouse.html

FROM THE HANDS OF ROME by Absinthe
Promising new story that begins on board a ship as Xena and Gabrielle head for Egypt and a meeting with the legendary Cleopatra. This first chapter is very colorful as the two are intrigued by the sights and sounds of Alexandria and then decide to take advantage of some of that Egyptian hospitality ;-) One to definitely watch in the weeks ahead. [unfinished] - 4 pgs.

OF DRAG KINGS AND A WARRIOR PRINCESSby Susan Smith
Chapter 23 is now available. This talented writer tries her hand at uber fiction this time around, producing a very different, very original contemporary story. Rosalind Olchawski considers herself a fairly ordinary college professor leading a fairly ordinary life - a life so ordinary and so bland, in fact, that recently Rosalind has started to wonder whether she's even capable of feeling that passion others seem to feel. It is a concern that is answered one evening when she accompanies a friend to a club and discovers in the startling blue eyes of a drag king the destiny she had been waiting for. In this latest update Taryn has to face a revelation she cannot deal with while Rosalind dreams of an ancient warrior, a bard, a noble sacrifice and the cycle of pain and love they were trapped in long ago. Very well written, with characterizations that are sensitively done, a twist of the uber theme and an intriguing storyline this one should keep you hitting that page down button. VERY HIGHLY RECOMMENDED! [unfinished] - 10 pgs.

COMPLICATIONS by Gin
The conclusion is now available. Gin continues the captivating tale she began in NEGOTIATIONS with a very promising new sequel that finds the Conqueror and the Queen of the Amazons now very happy trying to make a life for themselves in a world filled with responsibilities, and dangers and reputations to maintain. First up will be the challenge of a separation as Xena is called away to resolve problems in Chin and the young queen must try to deal with her loneliness amidst dangers that are much too close to home. In this final part, the Conqueror and her Amazon Queen spend time in Amphipolis with Cyrene and make plans for the future. Gin continues here imbuing the relationship between Conqueror and Queen with a wonderful mixture of tenderness, love and fierce passion. She crafts a well-written tale that includes a strong cast of supporting characters, some very surprising twists and some intriguing problems for our heroines to overcome. A worthy entry in the fascinating conqueror genre. DO NOT MISS! - 35 pgs.

HEART'S COURAGE by LZClotho
Part 6 is now available. Riveting new story that finds Gabrielle in dire straits on her way to the Roman slave markets praying the Warrior Princess will reach her soon, only the warrior Gabrielle knows is no more, replaced by a stranger living ten years in the past and aided now once again by the same mysterious figure that was her right hand back then. In this latest part Xena approaches Rome as Gabrielle learns a painful lesson in what it means to be a slave. Clotho does a nice job with the pacing of the story creating a great sense of suspense and impending danger. DO NOT MISS! [unfinished] - 7 pgs.

For those of you reading this post who are not familiar with the term alternative (alt.), it refers to ADULT stories that add a romantic element to the relationship between Xena and Gabby, depicting them as more than just friends.

Happy reading!
