HOLY WAR by ProudWarrioress
Chapter 13 - RECONNAISSANCE - is now available. ProudWarrioress' tale is a novel which inspired by THE PRICE goes way beyond the episode in terms of scope, creating a story of such magnitude and such impact that it can only be described as a saga of epic proportions - a blockbuster of XWP fan fiction. Set after the events in THE PRICE, this novel begins ominously with the thoughts of a warrior as he prepares to go to war - not an ordinary warrior but a leader among men - a warrior getting ready to unleash the greatest terror Greece has ever known as he leads his army on a holy crusade to recover the Chosen One promised long ago to his people - a prophesy Telmark, Supreme Commander of the Horde, is determined to see fulfilled at any cost. It is this new and deadly threat which Xena and Gabrielle find themselves facing when they join the massive army of several allied Greek City states preparing to do battle with the Horde. At the head of the army is Marmax, the commander from the episode IS THERE A DOCTOR IN THE HOUSE who thanks to Xena and the bard found peace for his own people but now must fight a battle for the very survival of Greece. Despite their mounting fears, Xena and Gabrielle agree to help the allied force and soon find themselves in a familiar situation - heavily outnumbered, facing savage Horde warriors - with little hope of survival. For Xena the solution is to start awakening the darkness within herself and to try to make sure Gabrielle is safe but what the Warrior Princess never suspects is that once again she is spending too much time trying to fight the Horde without considering what their motivations could be - what they want...or whom? The story has the feel of great film epics like SPARTACUS or the more contemporary BRAVEHEART. The battle scenes are so well-written and so carefully choreographed that they stand out vividly. ProudWarrioress' depiction of the Xena/Gabrielle relationship, as in her other stories, is one of deep friendship, loyalty, sacrifice and unquestionable commitment. She uses a shifting point-of-view technique that gives us a very thorough insight into the minds of both our heroines and their enemy. This story is an experience you will not soon forget. A MUST READ for every Xenite, it carries my HIGHEST RECOMMENDATION!!

THE TRIAL OF XENA by Onora
Chapter 19 of this story are now available. This thought-provoking, poignant tale has Xena and Gabrielle spending time with Hercules and Iolus when Athenian soldiers arrive to at last bring the Warrior Princess to justice. It is a development that will test Xena's commitment to justice even as it tests her friends' desperate need to protect her. In these latest chapters, Xena's friends come through once again. Still unfinished, the story is developing very nicely. HIGHLY RECOMMENDED!

THE LAST SCROLL by Rooks
I sat speechless for about fifteen minutes after reading this story just trying to compose myself. This is one of those rare pieces of fanfic that will make you feel the gamut of emotions, leave you contented and happy, drained and in tears. This is an absolute must read folks. It is actually a story within a story which begins with two youngsters visiting an old woman who tells them a tale from the unfinished scroll in her hands...a tale of a warrior and a bard - the most unlikely of friends - who became so much more. It is the story of two hearts coming together to conquer a storm within and ultimately discovering a love that would persevere in the darkest of times, against every adversity, across the greatest of obstacles - a love unending. MASSIVE kleenex alert on this one but worth EVERY sob! <:) VERY HIGHLY RECOMMENDED!

This first story from a promising new bard is set DURING the episode THE BITTER SUITE and offers a clever interpretation of the much talked-about opening scene from that episode. Nicely written and quite thought-provoking. [Note: this story is not explicit]

REFLECTIONS FROM THE PAST by Melissa Good
Part 4 of this story is now available. Already responsible for six of the most popular, most loved XWP stories on the Net, Missy latest is a combination uber-Xena/clip show story which already looks like it will easily match the outstanding body of work bearing this writer's name. As the story begins Xena and her bard are still hibernating in Amphipolis, enjoying the peace of their home and the simple comfort of just being with one another. They decide to work on translating the ancient scrolls they found while visiting Jessan's people in BOUND. Before long they are uncovering an emotional tale, almost as passionate and poignant as their own, involving a village girl named Ardwyn and the enigmatic Viking warrior who captures her heart. All the while the story revealed in those scrolls is awakening memories in Xena and Gabrielle, memories of the times they've shared and the long road they've traveled to get to the happiness they're now blessed with. In this latest part, an incident hurts the warrior's pride and we learn more about the horrific trials Ardwyn and Elevown had to endure. Missy's flashbacks continue to be among the best in the business, giving us insights into scenes from the TV show and filling in the time in between episodes like no other fan fiction has ever done. The uber sections in this story are also particularly well written - done in a style that is different from the rest of the novel and adds tremendously to the atmosphere of the more ancient story. In a rather angst-filled third season, this newest Missy offering is a godsend folks! What are you still doing reading this review?? GO READ THE STORY!!! It gets my HIGHEST RECOMMENDATION! For those of you reading this post who are not familiar with the term alternative (alt.), it refers to ADULT stories that add a romantic element to the relationship between Xena and Gabby, depicting them as more than just friends.
