WEDNESDAY FAN FICTION REPORT - 2/18/98
[Previous report was for 2/17/98]

Hi guys,

All new stories tonight :)

GENERAL FICTION:

JUST A PINCH OF BLACK POWDER by Mary Morgan
Mary's latest is an intriguing story which will likely throw you into a moral dilemma of sorts. It has Xena and Gabrielle visiting a kindly old man who also happens to be a dreamer, an inventor and in Xena's eyes...a threat to the world she's determined to stop no matter the cost. This is well written and thought-provoking.

ALTERNATIVE FICTON:

DEATH'S BEAUTIFUL DAUGHTER by Nene Adams
Already known for her masterful uber characterizations, Nene tries her hand this time at more traditional Xena fanfic, bringing us a fast-paced, emotional, romantic adventure which features the original warrior and bard and introduces us to a fantastic new character - a young woman named Keriset, raised by devotees of Hades and now the finest assassin in his service. It is an assignment, in fact, that brings her into the lives of Xena and Gabrielle in one of their darkest moments as all three soon find themselves fighting a very determined enemy. Featuring the ever-dashing King of Thieves - Autolycus himself, plenty of Amazons, bad guys, and Olympians this is an entertaining, suspenseful read ultimately grounded in the power of love to overcome and flourish. HIGHLY RECOMMENDED!

IN THE MOMENT by Dhyanna
Amusing story that has the Warrior Princess and her bard arguing and strangely tense until they share a moment of sudden clarity. Cute :)

A GOD'S WORDS by Okcimoron
This is a WONDERFUL first offering from a very promising new bard. Set just after the events in the episode THE FURIES, the tale beautifully integrates elements from that episode into the narrative in effect creating a more complete and very well-thought out story. Staying in Amphipolis to recuperate from their recent ordeal with the Furies, Xena and the bard are each faking a calmness neither feels. Unable to remember some key moments from her days of insanity, the warrior fears the worse while Gabrielle, remembering every instant, wonders if it was Xena's heart she was privy to or just her friend's madness.Part of the story's undeniable appeal is the delightful sense of awkwardness in the relationship. These are two hearts very much in love, taking that love to a new level and gaining from it the courage to trust...and surrender. A romantic tour-de-force certain to warm that old ticker :) VERY HIGHLY RECOMMENDED!

For those of you reading this post who are not familiar with the term alternative (alt.), it refers to ADULT stories that add a romantic element to the relationship between Xena and Gabby, depicting them as more than just friends.

Happy reading!
