Hi guys,

Tonight's all alt. report features two updates and a new story by Katrina.

**SPOILER WARNING** - The story by Katrina and my write-up on it spoil the new Hercules episode ARMAGEDDON.

ALTERNATIVE FICTION:

THE STORYTELLER by Katrina
Set in the alternate world of the Hercules episode ARMAGEDDON, this fantastic new warlord/slave story is a powerful, intense, emotional piece that has the young agitator Gabrielle surviving the ordeal Empress Xena condemned her to on a cross. It is while suffering the pain of that torture that Gabrielle gains a sudden insight into how she may be able to change the ruthless empress - not by inciting the people against her, but by inciting a revolution in the woman's own heart. Determined to try even if it leads to her death, Gabrielle returns to the castle where the now crippled agitator turns storyteller and is soon telling her one-time enemy tales of heroes, of fighting for the greater good, and of a love that would change the world. Katrina's characterizations in this are beautifully multi-layered, presenting a Xena with all the power in the world and an aching emptiness within while her Gabrielle, despite a poignant outer frailty, is a storyteller of gentle heroism and steely determination. A very original, beautifully written story which touches all the right emotional buttons, this receives my HIGHEST RECOMMENDATION!

TO RESCUE A FRIEND by Katelin B.
The conclusion of Book I in the DEATH OF A NATION series is now available. This is an action-packed, well-written story that masterfully captures the heart of the Amazon nation in a riveting tale that has the Amazons facing a very real threat to their future. On the eve prior to the start of a war they did not ask for but cannot run away from, a troubled Ephiny asks Xena to lead the Amazons into battle - she herself preferring to fight alongside her sisters as a simple warrior. With Gabrielle in Poteidaia visiting her family, Xena agrees - knowing full well the heavy odds facing the Amazons. None of them, however, suspect the true extent of the danger that awaits them but it is a sense of this danger that prompts the Warrior Princess to examine her heart with regards to a certain bard...and to counsel a friend to do the same with her own heart. In this latest installment, the Amazons, their Queen and their regent show their mettle as they face off against the tyrant determined to destroy them. Featuring excellent depictions of Ephiny and the other Amazons, this story has the feel of an epic. HIGHLY RECOMMENDED!

A DIFFERENT KIND OF RIFT by RavensTale
Part 6 of this story is now available. Set after the events in THE DEBT, this is a clever, nicely written tale that has Ares offering Xena the chance to go back in time and change some of the horrific experiences she and Gabrielle have recently endured. It is a chance the Warrior Princess will take never considering the many twists of fate she could soon be experiencing. In this latest part, Xena gets a taste once again of Roman arrogance and hatred. Still unfinished but with a solid premise, RavensTale story is great entertainment.

For those of you reading this post who are not familiar with the term alternative (alt.), it refers to ADULT stories that add a romantic element to the relationship between Xena and Gabby, depicting them as more than just friends.
