TUESDAY FAN FICTION REPORT - 3/9/99
[Previous report was for 3/8/99]
Hi guys,
There's something oddly familiar about this new fanfic site now available on the web - MERWULF'S FAKE UPDATES AND LAURACY'S REVIEWS. Hmmmm...I can't quite put my electronic finger on it but I can guarantee you this one is a worth a visit. Inspired by that OTHER bard with a similar name, Merwulf does a wonderful job delivering mush that goes a tad beyond that PG-13 rating while Lauracy offers critiques that put to shame the humble efforts of her fellow reviewers. Keeping that tongue firmly in cheek, stop by this delightful new site at: http://www.mathematik.uni-marburg.de/~jaskadan/m&l/
Two lost stories have been found thanks to Chakram1! BETWEEN THE HAMMER AND THE ANVIL, a collaborative effort by members of the CFXS (Center For Xena Studies) mailing list, and DEFILER by Kerabe are both still on the web at the CFXS FAN FICTION SYMPOSIUM. Below I'm reposting the reviews with the corrected addresses. Thanks Chak!
ALTERNATIVE FICTION
JUST LOOK AT THEM by T. Novan
T. Novan takes a break from her popular RAISING MELOSA SERIES to share with us a lovely piece about that all-important first kiss set against the background of Amphipolis as warrior and bard visit a certain innkeeper that knows just what is best for her daughter. Heartwarming, feel-good story reminiscent of those earlier seasons. HIGHLY RECOMMENDED! - 4 pgs.

CAT AND MOUSE by T. Novan
Stories like this one make it so easy for fanfic reviewers to stay awake reading at 3:00 am >:) This is a study in seduction as the warrior and bard tease one another mercilessly during a formal celebration and then retire to...er...celebrate privately. Ahem... only problem with reading something like this at 3:00 am is that the Amazon Ice Company is CLOSED!!! A definite MUST READ at whatever time is convenient though - although it's probably not advisable to do so during work hours. VERY HIGHLY RECOMMENDED! - 6 pgs.

XENA AND GABRIELLE DO THE WILD THING by Merwulf
Wanting to be a little different from that OTHER bard with the similar name, Merwulf flirts with that dreaded PG 14.5 rating in this sizzler of a tale which comes in three parts and has Xena and Gabrielle in an unusual predicament - trapped in a cave while a storm rages outside! What are a warrior and bard to do? With skillful use of ellipses and timely fadeout scenes, Merwulf does a wonderful job answering that ;-) Filled with inside jokes from the MerwolfPack mailing list, this little offering should nevertheless put a grin on the faces of fans of that OTHER bard while quickly making them fans of this particular Merwulf. If you doubt the Lunatic make sure to check out the reviews written by my esteemed colleague Lauracy which are appended to the story parts. In a word guys - FUN! HIGHLY RECOMMENDED! - 10 pgs.

BONDING by Rab Donald
Xena and Gabrielle exchange some rather revealing little stories from their younger days. - 5 pgs.

BETWEEN THE ANVIL AND THE HAMMER by members of the CFXS mailing list
Amusing new story set in Amazonia which has a disappointed Gabrielle getting tough with her Amazons when it seems they're becoming a tad too lazy. - 6 pgs.

DEFILER by Kerabe
A desperate Xena watches, helpless, as evil once again seems to take her bard from her. Good use of symbolism in this. - 3 pgs.
