ALTERNATIVE FICTION
SUMMER'S CIRCUS by Barbara Davies
Well written and delightfully original, this atmospheric new uber tale unfolds amidst the colorful world of the Circus Big Top - a world freelance journalist Alison Carmichael hopes to successfully capture for her first major newspaper article. Fascinated in particular by the mysterious circus owner with striking blue eyes, Alison sets out to find out more about Summer Blake never expecting the story of heartbreak and shame she's about to uncover or the attraction that will soon blossom into something deeper forging a connection between them at a time when the enigmatic circus owner may just be coming to the end of her rope. Barbara beautifully merges here the nostalgic appeal of circus life with the excitement, nervousness and insecurities of a growing romance. Her main characters are well-dawn, likeable figures that quickly elicit both our support and sympathy. A definite MUST READ! HIGHLY RECOMMENDED! - 62 pgs.

D.C. by Tendre
When Secret Service agent Zora Dexter is assigned to protect the daughter of the United States President she expects it to be a challenge but NOTHING could prepare her for the reality of having to deal with Nellie Corrigan. Giving new meaning to the word "difficult", the First Daughter is a dizzying combination of energy and brashness, raunchiness and quick wit all carefully molded for maximum shock value. An instant source of fascination for her wild charge, Zora soon finds herself fending off the determined Ms. Corrigan even as she tries to keep her alive. All the while, despite her reluctance to think of Nellie Corrigan as anything but a spoiled brat, the agent is seeing glimpses of a depth in the young woman few know about - glimpses of disappointments and loneliness, of a brilliant mind and a caring heart trying to survive amidst the harsh realities of Washington politics. One of the finest comedic minds in Xena fanfic, Tendre collects here some of the most hysterical dialogue exchanges I've ever read - made funnier by just how true they sometimes ring! Her characterizations are outstanding but Nellie Corrigan truly stands out. A brilliant fictional creation, she not only carries much of the humor in the piece but also imparts a sense of poignancy that elevates the story to a surprisingly dramatic level. Using a modified screenplay format, Tendre is creating a fascinating read with this one. HIGHLY RECOMMENDED! [unfinished] - 102 pgs.

THERE'S MORE THAN ONE WAY TO SKIN A CAT by Flop
Hmmm...I wasn't sure after reading this little tale whether to recommend it...or KILL the bard ;-) Figured I'd recommend it because...well, discomfort loves company and bardicide just was not gonna make matters any better! Flop's latest has Xena presenting her beloved bard with a little gift purchased from a mysterious old crone and meant to make their upcoming quality time a tad different. Nice writing, playful characterizations and a SIZZLING premise make this one a fun, if EXCRUCIATINGLY FRUSTRATING, read ;-) Join me in my misery gang - DO NOT MISS! [unfinished] - 10 pgs.

Part 29 in the RAISING MELOSA SERIES finds a worried and frustrated Amazon Queen taking care of both her spouse and their daughter in the aftermath of yet another challenge to the happiness and peace they've fought so hard to have. An emotional wrap-up to the conflict begun in the previous story, this entry has Gabrielle once again rising to her role as leader of the Amazons and a source of strength for her family. DO NOT MISS! - 6 pgs.

WE NEVER SAY GOODBYE by T. Novan
Very much in keeping with the spirit of ancient Greek myths, this clever new uber tale is set in the modern world where an immortal warrior continues to struggle against the curse that has kept her from an eternity with her beloved even as it has brought them together again countless times through the ages. T. Novan imbues the story with a combined sense of urgency, desperation and passion that is appropriate for the meeting of two souls always fighting to be together. Original and nicely written. - 22 pgs.

For those of you reading this post who are not familiar with the term alternative (alt.), it refers to ADULT stories that add a romantic element to the relationship between Xena and Gabrielle, depicting them as more than just friends.
Happy reading!
