VERSE AND VIGNETTE by Ogami
In the tradition of that ever so popular episode A DAY IN THE LIFE comes this really OUTSTANDING piece of fan fiction by a talented new bard. VERSE AND VIGNETTE is exactly what the title implies - a collection of verses and vignettes all combined to create a picture of what life is like for the warrior and bard during the course of several days. Combining some hysterical moments, with more serious, romantic and poignant ones, the resulting work is simply put - a delight. Ogami's Xena and Gabrielle are two of the best characterizations of these two heroines I've seen in fanfic in a long time. They laugh, they flirt, they hurt, they reveal insecurities and strengths, they joke and cry - they are utterly and wonderfully human. Most of all they share a committed, playful, passionate love that resonates throughout their adventures here. Among other things, VERSE AND VIGNETTE has them fighting ruffians, dealing with still-healing inner scars, discussing their future together, and even visiting one of the wonders of the Ancient World where we discover the TRUE author of a certain melody that would go on to top the music charts in...ohhh, 2,000 years or so ;-) This is a MUST READ folks which will indeed leave you with that same feeling A DAY IN THE LIFE did. VERY HIGHLY RECOMMENDED!!

Ogami rewrites the ending of the episode BITTER SUITE, providing a resolution the series has yet to give us (and probably never will). Recommended in particular for fellow rift-haters.

This clever bard will once again endanger the continued good health of your funny bone with this HILARIOUS little entry that reveals how Xena handles her partner's tendency to talk in her sleep ;-) Keep ALL drinks away from the keyboard - particularly toward the end. I think these bards are trying to kill us I TELL YOU!! Very funny, very original and VERY HIGHLY RECOMMENDED!

THE SACRIFICE OF BEAUTY OR THE BEAUTY IN THE BEAST PART II: A XENAVERSE FAERY TALE by Nene Adams
Nene continues her wonderful XENAVERSE FAERY TALES with a poignant story about a love so strong it can transcend time and accept the greatest of sacrifices. It is the story of how a desperate Gabrielle, intent on rescuing her beloved warrior from the clutches of Ares, travels into an alternate reality to try to return Xena to the world she knows. Only in that alternate world the Xena she meets is an all-powerful, very dangerous Empress whose icy heart the bard-turned-slave may never be able to reach. Emotional story, nicely written which also brings to mind images of the Xena we saw in the recent Hercules episode ARMAGEDDON NOW. HIGHLY RECOMMENDED!

CHICAGO 5AM by L.N. James
Chapter 10 of this story is now available. Teenagers are disappearing from the streets of Chicago, casualties of a dark subculture based on drugs, sex and rock and roll. Assigned to investigate is Mariel Potidean, a brilliant young FBI agent who soon finds herself teamed with a rather irritating partner - an ex-cop by the name of Tina Amphipoli with a dangerous reputation, a mysterious past and electric blue eyes. In this latest chapter misery shows that it does indeed love company. L.N.'s newest delivers an engaging premise with two very strong characters and lots of potential for suspense, drama and romance. DO NOT MISS!

LEAP OF FAITH by Missy Good
Part two of this story is now being posted. So consistent she'd probably never make it as a character in a third season episode of XWP, Missy returns with the beginnings of what promises to be another exceptional XWP novel. Set about a month after the events in DARKNES FALLS, the story begins with the warrior and bard recovering nicely from their recent ordeals, rejoicing in the healing their relationship is experiencing. The sense of things in fact returning back to normal becomes even more pronounce when they visit Poteidaia and once again find people in need of their help, people looking to the Warrior Princess when no other hope remains. Unbeknownst to them, trouble is stirring in other parts too, as danger envelops a dear friend. In this latest section, an Amazon prepares to meet her fate while Xena and the bard deal with being in Poteidaia. Featuring exceptional writing, masterful storytelling, Missy's endearing sense of humor, and one of the most beloved depictions of the Xena/Gab relationship in fanfic this is another treat for us all guys. A MUST READ that receives my HIGHEST RECOMMENDATION!!

THE SECRETS OF THE HOARY DEEP by de Bonheur
Chapters 12-13 of this tale are now available. This FANTASTIC follow up to de Bonheur's AND FAIR TRUTH is an uber-Xena story set in post-WWI France where a young aristocrat named Michelle Destin finds herself in the middle of an intriguing mystery involving a very old painting...and the enigmatic woman that soon comes into her life. Meanwhile, in Elysia a certain warrior and bard enjoy the happiness they earned long ago, thinking of the life they made together, but wanting also to help the living children of their blood find that happiness. In this latest part the past comes alive as the warrior and bard remember their joining ceremony. Still unfinished, this story is sensual and romantic and emotional and beautiful. De Bonheur does an excellent job presenting the aristocratic element of post-WWI Parisian society while the Xena/Gab relationship, as in her previous stories, is depicted with great care, great passion and great tenderness. Still unfinished this story is already a fine read. VERY HIGHLY RECOMMENDED!

For those of you reading this post who are not familiar with the term alternative (alt.), it refers to ADULT stories that add a romantic element to the relationship between Xena and Gabrielle, depicting them as more than just friends.
