WEDNESDAY FAN FICTION REPORT - 4/15/98

Hi guys,

We have another new Xena fanfic site now available, Carmen's THE BARD CAFE featuring among other things a message board similar to the NetForum where people can go to discuss Xena fanfic. GENERAL FICTION:

FAMILY by Godot
One of my favorite fanfic characters, Godot's delightfully inept sorceress Antipany, is back in this new tale set after the rift episodes which has Xena and Gabrielle struggling with the growing distance between them when they find themselves once again trying to save the sorceress. In a rather delicate condition, Antipany has to grudgingly accept the help of the Warrior Princess - not that this would deter her from continuing to make life difficult for the warrior. However, with a soft spot for the bard and a new perspective on things, Antipany is soon trying to help mend things between the two estranged friends, sensing the doubts both are hiding and the love which is still very much in their hearts. Godot's characterizations as usual are endearing and solid in a story that mixes humor with drama to produce an entertaining read and a satisfying treatment of third season events. HIGHLY RECOMMENDED! [See also the other titles in Godot's ANTIPANY SERIES].

LOST FRIENDS by Carmen McDonald
Xena and the bard combine forces with an old friend of the Warrior Princess to try to defeat a very deadly warlord.

WILDFIRE by Rebecca Hall
For all of you who LOVED Rebecca's unforgettable HEAVEN DOWN HERE (and if you still haven't read this incredible story - you are hereby ORDERED to do so right NOW! ;-) comes this MARVELOUS new epilogue set the morning after HEAVEN DOWN HERE. Sizzling does not even come close to describing this little addition to the story which has Xena and Gabrielle dealing with perhaps one of their biggest challenges to date...the bard's newly awakened appetite for things OTHER than food. Ahhhh but those girls DO love a challenge >:) You might have to stock up on some vitamins before tackling this new offering...possibly call the Amazon Ice Company if your running low on ice, avoid at work...you all know the drill by now ;-) I'm certain it will be as good for you as it was for me :) VERY HIGHLY RECOMMENDED!

A THIRD DEATH by C.L. Bactad
With the first four chapters now available, this new warlord/slave story promises to be one wild ride! It begins with Xena and Gabrielle on their way to Crete, but it is a journey neither will complete as a vengeful God of War puts into play an evil plan to forever separate the two lovers. Featuring a very passionate, loving interpretation of the Xena/Gab relationship, this story is already riveting and suspenseful as it setups one of the greatest challenges their love will ever face. DO NOT MISS! HIGHLY RECOMMENDED!

A DIFFERENT KIND OF RIFT by RavensTale
Chapters 12-13 of this story are now available. Set after the events in the rift episodes, this is a clever, nicely written tale that has Ares offering Xena the chance to go back in time and change some of the horrific experiences she and Gabrielle have recently endured. It is a chance the Warrior Princess will take never considering the many twists of fate she could soon be experiencing. In this latest part, desperate to keep Gabrielle safe, Xena seeks help from an old acquaintance. Still unfinished but with a solid premise, RavensTale story is great entertainment.

FORESTS OF EYULF: INSTINCTS OF BLUE by Tammy
Part 3 of this story is now available. Tammy's second XWP tale is a highly unusual uber-Xena story set in the distant future that revolves around two warring races - the humans of Nadir and the Ulfr people of the forests of Eyulf whose unusual abilities include the power to shapeshift into wolves. Leading one of the Ulfr packs is Zya - a stunningly beautiful, powerful warrior whose hatred of the Nadir runs deep but who finds herself suddenly at odds with that hatred when she's compelled to save a young Nadir female after the girl loses everything and is badly injured in an Ulfr attack. In this third part Zya tries to understand the stranger that has now become a part of her. Still unfinished, this story shows nice potential.

For those of you reading this post who are not familiar with the term alternative (alt.), it refers to ADULT stories that add a romantic element to the relationship between Xena and Gabrielle, depicting them as more than just friends.
