WEDNESDAY FAN FICTION REPORT -
5/27/98
[Previous report was for 5/26/98]
Hi all,
More proof tonight of why Xena fanfic continues to keep me deep in its clutches :) Incredible stories!
GENERAL FICTION:
THE KIND by L. Graham
The Xenaverse bards have GOT to be some of the most creative people involved in storytelling today. If in doubt, seek out this latest gem from the keyboard of L. Graham. It is a really delightful retelling of the episode SINS OF THE PAST...from a "canine point of view" ;-) This one will warm the old ticker and plaster a big grin on your face. HIGHLY RECOMMENDED!

ALTERNATIVE FICTION:
FIRE AND ICE by Friction
One good thing about this season guys is that it seems to have inspired some of the best uber-Xena fiction we've seen yet. Tonight we have yet another example of that in Friction's newest contribution - an outstanding story which should go right to the top of your MUST READ list. Set in the modern world, this is a story about two very different women - one trapped in an unfulfilling life, not sure what she's searching for - the other trapped in a nightmare, with no escape in sight. The two are drawn together on a fateful night when Danielle Stafford discovers an intruder in her uncle's home. In the weeks to come as the young woman remembers the masked thief's puzzling kindness, Alex Lord considers this herself - not certain what possessed her to leave a witness and unable to shake her lingering interest in that witness. Friction does a terrific job in slowly developing the relationship between these two uber characters, creating a rich dynamic between them that is compelling and believable. With some incredibly riveting scenes and those heart-stopping plot twists Friction loves to throw on her readers, this is the type of story that you will not be able to put down once you start reading. It is erotic, passionate, romantic, full of that angst we all love and just thoroughly entertaining. FIRE AND ICE receives my HIGHEST RECOMMENDATION!

WAYS TO BE WICKED by Vivian Darkbloom
Vivan returns with an uber sequel to her memorable at LOVE AND DEATH IN THE TRAILER PARK which is even MORE warped than that first offering - and just as delightful! This time around Gabrielle is happily settled down with her sexy firefighter Zina, enjoying that junk food and even going to college but theirs is a lifestyle not everyone approves off and which makes them targets for the homophobes at Ares Ministries, Inc. Put that tongue FIRMLY in your cheek as you begin to read this and then prepare for some serious attacks on your funny bone in what has developed into the best tribute to popular culture since Nene's now classic MYTH SERIES. Wonderfully original and VERY cleverly written, WAYS TO BE WICKED is a truly FUN read folks. HIGHLY RECOMMENDED!

RAVAGES OF SPIRIT by Pallas
This has got to be one of the most emotionally draining stories I have ever read - but it's also among the best written. Set in the fourth year of Xena and Gabrielle's friendship it marks a turning point in that friendship as the bard realizes that she can no longer go on by the warrior's side, loving Xena as she does and having to hide it. With her soul in agony, the bard sneaks away into the night, certain that if she stays she'll only end up destroying them both. Together with a concerned Ephiny, the Warrior Princess immediately sets off after her but before facing the bard once again she will need to face the feelings within herself - feelings which the Amazon Regent is all too familiar with. This is a very powerful story of three women - three friends, of human fears, human desires and how these can sometimes lead to the most agonizing ravages of spirit... Pallas' writing is remarkably effective, as she continuously shifts point of view to reveal the thoughts of her principals. This one is likely to haunt you for a while ;-) DO NOT MISS!

MAKE A WISH by AH-Ladis
An emotional story which links the life of a grieving Xena with a young, terminally ill woman living in the present day who as if by magic finds herself traveling to the Ancient past and giving two hearts cruelly separated by Fate the chance to meet again. well written and poignant.

For those of you reading this post who are not familiar with the term alternative (alt.), it refers to ADULT stories that add a romantic element to the relationship between Xena and Gabrielle, depicting them as more than just friends.
Happy reading!
