WHISPERS IN THE DARK by Becky Lutzke
A moving if sometimes disturbing tale set after the events in the episode ONE AGAINST AN ARMY which has Gabrielle trying to survive a harrowing ordeal in a Persian dungeon - still holding on to the hope that Xena escaped the fire set by Persian soldiers to the barn they took refuge in back in Tripolis. Amidst the cold emptiness of that dungeon a voice in the dark reaches out to the bard, encouraging her to hold on even when all seems lost. Known for her courageous, strong depictions of Gabrielle, Deanlu once again delivers in this haunting story an admirable depiction of the bard. DO NOT MISS!

NEW PATHS by Stoley
An original and emotional new uber story with a very contemporary theme, this tale begins with Dr. Taylor Morgan trying to rebuild her life when she suddenly finds herself treating an injured blonde with unforgettable green eyes - a very scared young woman living a nightmare Taylor knows only too well - only in Sarah Albright's case, the nightmare is still very real...and always demanding that she get back to him like an obedient girlfriend should. This story deals with a new subject in uber fanfic and does it realistically and with appropriate sensitivity. Please read the disclaimer as the story may be troubling for some.

DON'T LOOK BACK by Kieron Grey
A suspenseful new uber tale that is also a contemporary mystery as the authorities find themselves baffled by a series of gruesome murders. Particularly affected by the killings is Detective Catherine Jackson who bears an eerie resemblance to all the victims - a resemblance which seems coincidental until the killer lets her know otherwise. Concerned, Catherine's superior brings in a new player to help in the case - a profiler named Morgan Grayson with a ready confidence and an intoxicating allure that soon has the young detective preoccupied with more than just the serial murders. This is nicely written and has definite potential.

German humor comes to Xena fanfic! Set during the episode A DAY IN THE LIFE this little tale is the story of a warrior, a bard, a hot tub and VERY lucky soap ;-) Cute! :)

ONLY ONE by Redhawk
Chapters 4-5 are now available. This is a promising HIGHLANDER/XWP crossover story set in the modern world which has the one-time Warrior Princess, now a deadly immortal, getting the shock of her life when she sees a familiar face lost to her centuries before. In these latest chapters Xena saves the young runaway she's been trailing, all the while trying to remind herself that Rickie Gardner is not the bard who captured her heart so long ago. Still unfinished this is nicely written and should be particularly entertaining for fans of both series. DO NOT MISS!

Chapter 26 is now available. Teenagers are disappearing from the streets of Chicago, casualties of a dark subculture based on drugs, sex and rock and roll. Assigned to investigate is Mariel Potidean, a brilliant young FBI agent who soon finds herself teamed with a mysterious and decidedly fascinating partner - an ex-cop by the name of Tina Amphipoli with a dangerous reputation, a mysterious past and electric blue eyes. In this latest chapter Tina and Mariel prepare for the battle ahead. L.N.'s newest delivers an engaging premise with two very strong heroines, lots of suspense, drama and some thoroughly engaging romantic sparks. HIGHLY RECOMMENDED! UBERMADNESS: THE BATTLE FOR THE THIRD AGE by Bat Morda
Parts 2-3 are now available. The very talented Bat Morda returns with the long-awaited sequel to THE SEARCH FOR AMPHIPOLIS. Set one hundred years after that story, it chronicles the continuing struggle of Xena and Gabrielle's descendants against the God of War...only this time around those descendants may in fact be more than just descendants. The story begins with hacker extraordinaire Xero, deadly, beautiful and not keen on trusting people, narrowly escaping an assassination attempt. Soon she is joining forces with Rielle, a beautiful, green-eyed blonde who claims to know what is happening - but as a syscop, also happens to be a hackers worst enemy. All the while the skeptical Xero is learning more about a certain warrior of legend - and learning more about herself in the process. In these latest part Ares makes his presence known while Xero gets a guided tour of the ancient past. Bat does a wonderful job here of creating a futuristic world filled with personalities that should be familiar to many of you in the Xenaverse. Her Xero is a gritty, no-nonsense type very reminiscent of warlord Xena while Rielle embodies the best of Gabrielle - intelligent, determined, and very much ruled by her heart. Still unfinished, this story is not to be missed! HIGHLY RECOMMENDED!!

BEHOLD A PALE HORSE by Karen Surtees
Part 2 is now available. A sequel of sorts to Surtees' first story THAT ROAD ONCE TRODDEN, this new tale is already quite promising. The story begins with the Amazons seeking shelter in Artermis' temple from a vicious storm raging outside. When nature's fury is over their relief is short-lived, shattered by the site of their young queen and her warrior protector near death amidst the ruins of the village - their presence on Amazon land and their condition, a mystery which only time will reveal. In this latest part a shaken Gabrielle tells Ephiny what happened to her and Xena. Fast-pased and riveting this is already an engrossing read. DO NOT MISS!

For those of you reading this post who are not familiar with the term alternative (alt.), it refers to ADULT stories that add a romantic element to the relationship between Xena and Gabrielle, depicting them as more than just friends.
