Hi guys,

Thought tonight I would spotlight once again a group of VERY creative Xenites out there who in addition to our bards are also doing a great deal to enhance the fanfic experience - our artists! Below is a listing of some OUTSTANDING Web sites featuring drawings, paintings, digital art and other graphical creations inspired by fanfic. Talking of fanfic sites, I've been meaning to draw your attention to some changes at the XENAVERSE CODEX. The fine folks there have been remodeling the site. They've added a page featuring their own favorite fan fiction stories at: http://xenafiction.net/FAV.HTM

Whew!!! Large announcement section there tonight! :) Now at last we get to the fanfic - just two new offerings tonight but both very enjoyable - a new one from D. Joan Leib and another of those incredibly satisfying bits from the Merwolf.

DENY OR EMBRACE by D. Joan Leib
Intriguing new story which finds the warrior and bard on a seemingly normal day enjoying the countryside when a terrifying vision brings them to a standstill. Determined to learn more about what may have sparked that vision the two decide to spend time at a nearby village where preparations for an annual ritual have come to a halt after an important part of that ritual turns up missing. With two chapters now available, Joan is already doing a skillful job of building the sense of mystery in this. Solid writing in a tale with great promise.

PROMISES KEPT by Missy Good
Part five is now being posted. After another of her LOOOOONG absences ;-) this bard-extraordinaire returns with the sequel to LEAP OF FAITH which finds the warrior and bard getting on with their lives, making plans for both the weeks ahead...and the years they plan to spend together. For Xena this involves some final preparations for their upcoming trip to see friends and family...for the bard it means taking the first steps in turning a wish into reality. This latest section beautifully captures the special magic between warrior and bard as they share a very welcomed discovery. There are things about a Missy story that just seem automatic these days - solid, sensitively drawn portrayals of our two heroines, beautiful writing with rich images and lots of heartfelt exchanges, a terrific supporting cast and one of the most heart-warming depictions of the Xena/Gab relationship in fanfic. VERY HIGHLY RECOMMENDED!

For those of you reading this post who are not familiar with the term alternative (alt.), it refers to ADULT stories that add a romantic element to the relationship between Xena and Gabrielle, depicting them as more than just friends.
