MONDAY FAN FICTION REPORT - 7/13/98

Hi guys,

First of all - a reminder to those of you who find these fanfic reports useful - although I post the reports to a number of mailing lists and to the NetForum, I also keep a private list of Xenites who get their own personal copies of any reports I write. If you need to unsubscribe from a mailing list or are having problems accessing the reports through the NetForum you can drop me a note and I'll add you on to my private list of subscribers. POSEIDON'S PRIDE by Silk
The second in Silk's (for others in the series see TALES FROM THE BARD SERIES, this little story has a miserable Xena trying to see an old friend through a very difficult time while the bard tells the tale of one of the gods' most magnificent creations. Another nice entry in a series which is celebrating both the Greek myth tradition and the talents of a certain storyteller.

Set in the latter years of Xena's life, this first fanfic effort from TZ takes Xena into the afterlife to face judgment for her sins and to see once again a face loved above all others. Poignant and sweet.

Touching story set after the events in SACRIFICE II which has the Warrior Princess mourning for her beloved bard and that bard looking on from another place, desperately wanting to get back. Nicely written feel-good tale.

TZ brings us yet another interpretation of what may follow SACRIFICE II in this tale which has a miserable Gabrielle learning from Hades about the role she played in a plan conceived long ago - a plan which has now taken her from her beloved warrior.

Delightful story that has Xena and her bard trying to help a town under a mischievous curse...and then falling victims to the curse themselves ;-) Very cute! [This is the third story in TZ's THE WAY OF LIFE SERIES].

THE WAY OF THE CHILD by TZ
Set five years after the events in THE WAY OF THE BARD (reviewed above), this latest entry in TZ's THE WAY OF LIFE SERIES has the Amazons dreading the conversation they need to have with their wandering queen about a certain duty she's expected to perform - only to soon learn their queen and her warrior have beaten them to the punch as it were ;-) Featuring a reunion with old friends, this story also chronicles a time of change in the lives of Xena and Gabrielle as they begin to let go of the past and look forward to a future now more promising than ever before. A nice depiction of the relationship in this.

Amusing new offering that has a very frustrated Xena seeking relief for her...distress - and discovering that she just can't quite eliminate the image of a certain bard from her mind. Grin alert on this one ;-)

THE OFFERING by E.L.F.
Emotionally drained by her recent struggle against Ares and the Furies, Xena agrees when her bard suggests they relax for a bit while visiting a very old, abandoned temple. The strange, mystical quality surrounding the place will soon have them admitting emotions long kept secret.

CHICAGO 5AM by L.N. James
Chapter 30 is now available. Teenagers are disappearing from the streets of Chicago, casualties of a dark subculture based on drugs, sex and rock and roll. Assigned to investigate is Mariel Potidean, a brilliant young FBI agent who soon finds herself teamed with a mysterious and decidedly fascinating partner - an ex-cop by the name of Tina Amphipoli with a dangerous reputation, a mysterious past and electric blue eyes. In this latest chapter Mariel is forced to watch as Tina faces a deadly enemy from the past. L.N.'s newest delivers an engaging premise with two very strong heroines, lots of suspense, drama and some thoroughly engaging romantic sparks. HIGHLY RECOMMENDED! THE AMPHIPOLIS EXPEDITION by Felioness
The concluding part three is now available. A fascinating new futuristic uber story set in the final years of a dying Earth which has a young doctor named Brie O'Conner landing one of the coveted spots aboard an expedition to colonize a distant planet and hopefully ensure the survival of the human race. It is a bittersweet moment for most of the colonists as they prepare to leave everyone and everything they've known to embark on a journey that will take decades but they do so with faith in the tall, beautiful commander Xandra Lawless whose determination and strength inspires them all and soon begins to intrigue a certain doctor as well. This final part is suspenseful and romantic and hopeful all at once as it chronicles the colonization of a new planet and brings two very old souls full circle back to one another and to the very simple beginnings they shared a long time ago. Featuring solid characterizations and a compelling storyline full of hope this one is not to be missed. HIGHLY RECOMMENDED!

PROMISES KEPT by Missy Good
Part eight is now being posted. After another of her LOOOOONG absences ;-) this bard-extraordinaire returns with the sequel to LEAP OF FAITH which finds the warrior and bard getting on with their lives, making plans for both the weeks ahead...and the years they plan to spend together. For Xena this involves some final preparations for their upcoming trip to see friends and family...for the bard it means taking the first steps in turning a wish into reality. In this latest part Xena works toward finding the least violent solution to the predicament they're in even as her competitive nature rises to the front once again. There are things about a Missy story that just seem automatic these days - solid, sensitively drawn portrayals of our two heroines, beautiful writing with rich images and lots of heartfelt exchanges, a terrific supporting cast and one of the most heart-warming depictions of the Xena/Gab relationship in fanfic. This one gets my HIGHEST RECOMMENDATION!! [unfinished]

For those of you reading this post who are not familiar with the term alternative (alt.), it refers to ADULT stories that add a romantic element to the relationship between Xena and Gabrielle, depicting them as more than just friends.
