MONDAY FAN FICTION REPORT - 7/14/97

Hi all,

In order to post you will need to register and you can do so by clicking on the PASSWORD button. Just as in the NetForum, AXBD features among the posts, fan fic and poems written by fans. One thing that is different is that ROOMS have been setup with specific themes where you'll find stories/poems/songs/vignettes/parodies based on the various themes. To get to the ROOMS click on the ROOMS button. NOTE that AXDB *is* a moderated forum for fans who enjoy the subtext. Posts containing obscenities or that attack the subtext and/or the fans who enjoy the subtext will NOT go up.

GENERAL FICTION:

AFTER HORDE by Baermer
Set immediately after the events in the episode THE PRICE this short little tale has Xena and Gabrielle coming to terms with the violence they've just experienced and working hard to make sure it only strengthens their friendship. Nice piece. [Previously posted on the NetForum].

WILD WEST ROOT by LaRin
This story is part of a new movement in Xena fan fic which places the descendants of the heroines in different timelines. The tale features Mel and Janice which are the original reflections of this movement but we are also introduced to Sarah and Katie, unlikely best friends in the Old West who like their ancestors battle for truth and justice. The story has Janice discovering that her ancestor, Katie Parson, was an inseparable friend of Mel's great aunt Sarah. Mel goes on to tell a tale of one of the adventures of Sarah and Katie as the two searched for a potentially dangerous killer, joining for a while with their trusted Indian friends Strongbear and Little Arrow and even having to deal with the town idiot - Jasper.

ALTERNATIVE FICTION:

HEART AND SOUL by Trish Kerr (Phopas)
This new effort by Phopas follows the story started in ABOUT THAT KISS and its sequel HONEYMOON and easily maintains if not surpasses the quality of those two excellent tales. HEART & SOUL is a novel - Phopas' longest story to date and absolutely glorious in every respect - WILD, funny, romantic, emotional - PERFECT! It begins immediately after the events in HONEYMOON and has Xena reluctantly putting off a vacation so she can investigate the disappearances of several maidens and the rumored desecrations at a temple of Zeus. Closer to Xena and Gabrielle than they even suspect is the very culprit they are looking for - a deadly enemy with a game plan for world domination that if successful will destroy the love between warrior and bard and eventually, their very lives. The characterizations in this story are wonderful. Immersed in a chilling "conquer the world" dementia, Phopas' villain is possibly the most evil and scary Xena and Gab have faced since Callisto. Phopas also has an incredible talent for combining the dramatic with a wit that is all her own. In this novel she injects the peculiarities of fandom into parts of the plot creating scenes that will be familiar to many a Xenite - the clueless admirer is precious and the visits to a certain commercial establishment will just have you roaring! Also pay attention to to those little poems/quotes/song snipets included at the beginning of each chapter. I cannot believe how Phopas managed to find ones SO well-suited for each section. Finally, this story depicts the Xena/Gab relationship beautifully - protective and passionate with lots of love. This is a MUST READ people! VERY HIGHLY RECOMMENDED!

THE PRICE OF SILENCE by MaryD
The final chapter in this story is now available. Armed with deadly information about the Warrior Princess, Callisto sets out to exact a terrible vengeance on her greatest enemy determined to destroy all that Xena holds dear. In this final chapter the two finally face off as Callisto unveils a sickening plan to kill Xena and in so doing destroy an innocent soul. An intriguing premise in a nicely written story. Previously reviewed 4/5/97, 6/14/97, 6/27/97 and 7/8/97.

For those of you reading this post who are not familiar with the term alternative (alt.), it refers to ADULT stories that add a romantic element to the relationship between Xena and Gabby, depicting them as more than just friends.
