Hi all!

Some AWESOME new fiction as of late! Tonight we have a good Joxer story (Yes - I hate the man but this is a nice story guys). We have Amazons, Amazons everywhere and LOTS of romance :)

GENERAL FICTION:

GREENSONG by Jessi Alabano
A really nicely written, funny, story that reads VERY much like an actual episode, combining the zanny humor and the poignant moments we've come to expect from the lighter entries in TV series. As the story begins, a reluctant Xena and Gabrielle find themselves once again having to save Joxer who is running for his life - a young woman beside him and an angry mob of villagers in hot pursuit. His crime - robbing the villagers of their last virgin. Xena and Gabrielle can't quite comprehend the young woman's actions until she explains that as a virgin she was going to be sacrificed to a deadly sea serpent. The four then are joined by a naturalist wood nymph who despite trying to convince them that they shouldn't hurt the poor, misunderstood sea serpent, agrees to help them protect the village from Poseidon's wrath. Working together, the allies learn the meaning of friendship and courage while gaining a new insight into the delicate balance between all living things on the planet.

ALTERNATIVE FICTION:

OF AMAZONS, WARRIORS, AND REVENGE by Baermer
This newest story by one of my favorite bards joins THE ELEUSINIAN MYSTERIES on my list of best ever! As tends to be the case with Baermer's tales, this story has it ALL - suspense, mystery, action! It is a hurt/comfort story. It is a romance. It is a tale of revenge. It is unforgettable! While helping the survivors of a village that was viciously destroyed, Xena and Garbrielle are stunned to hear that the raiders were Amazons. Shortly afterwards the young bard is attacked when the villagers learn she has some connection to the Amazons. With an injured Gabrielle in tow, Xena heads off for the Amazon village where they learn that that someone has been raiding the neighboring villages and making sure the Amazons are blamed. Determined to get to the bottom of things and ignoring Gabrielle's plea to let her accompany them, Xena sets out with Epinon and Solari, leaving a frustrated bard behind. It is a mistake the Warrior Princess will live to regret for in her zest to protect the young woman she secretly loves, Xena has overlooked one crucial fact about the enemy which may cost Gabrielle her very life. This story is beautifully written and edited, using a style that at times is almost poetic. Baermer brings lots of GREAT characters from the series into this, including of course the Amazons, the Centaurs and a certain young man with very good genes ;-) She also creates a fantastic new villain and an unexpected little Amazon heroine who really proves her mettle. Baermer's ability to create strong plots is perhaps outdone only by her skill in capturing the Xena/Gab relationship. For them this is a tale of discovery as amidst the chaos, a horrific experience finally brings them together. Long, OUTSTANDING and VERY HIGHLY RECOMMENDED!!

THE BET by sHaYcH
VERY sweet story with both humor and romance that has Xena and Gabrielle agreeing to help the Amazons and the Centaurs try to form an alliance with a separate band of Amazons. A party soon sets out for the once-thought-lost city of Themiscrya with Gabrielle in the lead as Queen of her Amazons. Well-known to this other Amazon tribe and hated by them, Xena knows she will not be welcomed at Themiscrya but reluctant to let her bard go alone she accompanies the party anyway in a role she knows the other Amazons will accept...as Gabrielle's slave.

COMPROMISES by Watcher
This story is a virtual love-fest. Those of you who are romantics at heart are going to love this - know I did. Xena and Gabrielle return to the Amazon Nation where Gabrielle agrees to become the acting queen while Ephiny goes on a mysterious trip. In the month to follow, warrior and bard will learn more about themselves, what they really want in life and the incredible love that binds them as they look for ways to make each other happy - growing closer which each passing day. VERY nice.

LOVERS IN DOUBT by StarWarrior
Wonderfully sweet little story that has Xena and Gabrielle revealing their insecurities and the doubts these cause in their relationship when a jealous Gabrielle angrily undermines an important mission she was supposed to carry out. Nicely written with some very touching scenes.

SOLSTICE EVE by Beowolf
I had the pleasure of getting a sneak peek of this story a while back and it's been a personal favorite ever since. Set in the time of the Winter Solstice, it has the warrior and her bard enjoying this magical time of the year while they stay at a village where the annual festival is in full swing. Delighting in all the activities, Gabrielle can't quite believe her stoic warrior seems to be enjoying herself too. What the storyteller does not know is that Xena has made careful plans to make sure everything is perfect for Gabrielle because for once she wants to show the bard just what she means to her. Beautiful. DO NOT MISS!

For those of you reading this post who are not familiar with the term alternative (alt.), it refers to ADULT stories that add a romantic element to the relationship between Xena and Gabby, depicting them as more than just friends.
