GENERAL FICTION:

Xenrielle delivers another very satisfying slice-of-life piece - this one chronicling the thoughts of a certain bard as she spars with the Warrior Princess. Great undercurrent of love and friendship in this. DO NOT MISS!

SACRIFICE, SURVIVAL, SALVATION collaborative effort by the bards from The Bard Cafe (Kaiser, Maven, XXXLBadboy and Dancyer)
Set immediately after the events in the episode SACRIFICE II, this collaborative tale suggests an interesting premise as a broken-hearted but very stubborn Xena sets out on a dangerous journey to rescue her soulmate while Gabrielle realizes that she's once again being used to try to destroy her partner. The story flows quite smoothly despite the different writing perspectives. Good sense of suspense. [unfinished]

XENA'S CHOICE by Lara Zielinsky
Part three is now available. This EXCELLENT new story starts off immediately after the events in the episode SACRIFICE II, with a desolate Xena no longer caring whether she lives or dies, dispassionately doing Ares' bidding while forcing out of her thoughts any memory of the life she led during the past three years, of the hopes a young bard dared to inspire within her. Meanwhile, a confused Gabrielle finds herself traveling from one nightmare into another as the decision she made in Britannia once again leads to awful repercussions. Trapped in a very dark place, the bard must challenge the fiercest of opponents if she hopes to ever get out - an opponent that is once again ruthlessly living up to her reputation...as the Warrior Princess. In this latest part Xena struggles against the strange forces at work in her mind, determined to keep buried deep the memories she'd rather not remember. This is an intensely psychological tale revolving around very well drawn portrayals of our two heroines. ALTERNATIVE FICTION:

PROMISES KEPT by Missy Good
Part seven is now being posted. After another of her LOOOOONG absences ;-) this bard-extraordinaire returns with the sequel to LEAP OF FAITH which finds the warrior and bard getting on with their lives, making plans for both the weeks ahead...and the years they plan to spend together. For Xena this involves some final preparations for their upcoming trip to see friends and family...for the bard it means taking the first steps in turning a wish into reality. In this latest part the two continue trying to unravel the complicated little scenario they find themselves in while Xena struggles through some symptoms she hasn't felt in a very long time. There are things about a Missy story that just seem automatic these days - solid, sensitively drawn portrayals of our two heroines, beautiful writing with rich images and lots of heartfelt exchanges, a terrific supporting cast and one of the most heart-warming depictions of the Xena/Gab relationship in fanfic. This one gets my HIGHEST RECOMMENDATION!! [unfinished]

For those of you reading this post who are not familiar with the term alternative (alt.), it refers to ADULT stories that add a romantic element to the relationship between Xena and Gabrielle, depicting them as more than just friends.
