First of all - an important correction. There was an error in the time mentioned in Monday's fan fiction report for the upcoming XENA: WARRIOR PALACE chat session with L.N. A riveting vignette set just before the events in the episode THE GAUNTLET which has a stubborn Warrior Princess rebelling in the challenge and blood and darkness of war...only to feel so very empty afterwards. A solid exploration of Xena's state of mind at the time she first began wishing for more than the life of a warlord.

A sultry new offering that has Xena and her bard showing how much they've missed one another after a short separation. Wonderfully romantic, this one will make that air conditioner a welcomed relief ;-)

ONLY ONE by Redhawk
The concluding parts 6-10 are now available. This is a fantastic HIGHLANDER/XWP crossover story set in the modern world which has the one-time Warrior Princess, now a deadly immortal, getting the shock of her life when she sees a familiar face lost to her centuries before. Rickie Gardner is a young runaway used to surviving amidst the danger and cruelty of the streets but when she witnesses a murder she becomes a target in a way she's never been before. Her one hope of survival now rests in a tall, dark stranger whose presence somehow calls to her and whose face she sees in dreams. In these final sections Rickie runs from a frightening possibility right into the worst nightmare of her life - an ordeal which in turn uncovers memories from another place, another time, so very long ago. Redhawk gives a poignancy and fire to the evolving romance in this story that makes it intriguing and beautiful and emotional all at once. The tale makes great use of flashbacks in much the same way the HIGHLANDER TV series used to. Suspenseful, action-packed and well-written, this is a MUST READ just as a XWP story but should be particularly entertaining for fans of both series. HIGHLY RECOMMENDED!! PERSISTENCE OF MEMORY by Paul Seely and Jennifer Garza
Part 13 of this story is now available. This is the highly anticipated sequel to one of the best uber-Xena stories available on the Net, SURFACING. Featuring one VERY deadly encounter between a trained killer and the men assigned to protect its quarry, the opening sequence is a gripping combination of suspense, action, intrigue and pathos - set in sharp contrast to the scenes which follow as we see Diana and Charlie enjoying domestic life. The months of tranquillity, however, have not affected the ex-agent's razor-sharp senses which soon enough are warning her that the peace she's been enjoying may just be coming to an end. This latest chapter brings a shocking revelation as the past and present collide while old wounds are reopened. As in SURFACING, Paul and Jennifer do here an outstanding job of imbuing their writing with a very contemporary "feel". The relationship between Diana and Charlie is characterized by an easiness between them - a level of comfort that reveals their love even in the smallest of gestures. Excellent writing and excellent storytelling. VERY HIGHLY RECOMMENDED!

DENY OR EMBRACE by D. Joan Leib
Part three is now available. Intriguing new story which finds the warrior and bard on a seemingly normal day enjoying the countryside when a terrifying vision brings them to a standstill. Determined to learn more about what may have sparked that vision the two decide to spend time at a nearby village where preparations for an annual ritual have come to a halt after an important part of that ritual turns up missing. With three chapters now available, Joan is already doing a skillful job of building the sense of mystery in this. Solid writing in a tale with great promise.

For those of you reading this post who are not familiar with the term alternative (alt.), it refers to ADULT stories that add a romantic element to the relationship between Xena and Gabrielle, depicting them as more than just friends.
