SUNDAY FAN FICTION REPORT - 8/10/97
[Previous report was for 8/9/97]

Hi all!

Some real original stories tonight - all are alt. fiction.

ALTERNATIVE FICTION:

TOWARD THE SUNSET by Della Street
A new story from a favorite bard of mine who comes through BIG TIME with this WONDERFUL Uber-Xena tale set in the American West of the nineteenth century and featuring a couple of descendants of the Warrior Princess and her bard - Jess Chambers, a dangerous gunslinger with a bad reputation and Mattie Brunson, a gentle school teacher with a penchant for adventure and a liking for dark, outlaw-types ;-) Intrigued by the secretive outlaw, Mattie soon finds herself as inexplicably drawn to Jess Chambers as the outlaw is to her - only Mattie is used to listening to her heart while the gunslinger has hidden hers behind a wall the little school teacher may never be able to breach. Very well-written, this story offers us fully developed characters that although similar to Xena and Gabrielle, stand on their own merits. The depiction of the Old West is very well done with some recognizable elements thrown in from the Xena/Gab story to make it familiar. HIGHLY RECOMMENDED!!

THE VALLEY OF HIDDEN FEARS by Jamie Boughen
This is a sequel to the Warrior Bard's ANGER IS MY SHIELD which begins where that story concluded. Still at the Amazon village, recuperating from the ordeal with Xena's madness, the warrior and her bard are once again drawn into the problems of the Amazons as they try to help with negotiations involving villages just on the outskirts of Amazon territory. Puzzled by the villagers' request for passage rights through Amazon land, Xena decides to investigate, never suspecting that in discovering the truth behind that request she will discover a terrible truth about herself as well. This sequel offers a satisfying conclusion to the story begun in ANGER IS MY SHIELD. Nicely written.

THE SHIP WHO REMEMBERED by Quest
Very unusual Uber-Xena story set aboard a starship in the distant future that has Dr. Sarah Gabriel, a cybernetics specialist, struggling to save the life of Rebekha Thomas, the lone survivor of a colony viciously attacked by pirates who now must surrender the life she knew and embrace another one as part woman, part machine in order to see justice done. This story should particularly appeal to fans of science fiction.

CHIAROSCURO by SL Bowers
Interesting story that examines the concept of light and darkness in a person's soul. While fighting a gang of thugs, Xena and Gabrielle meet a mysterious warrior - a beautiful Amazon whose haunted past makes the Warrior Princess reconsider her own. Note: This story is not explicit.

For those of you reading this post who are not familiar with the term alternative (alt.), it refers to ADULT stories that add a romantic element to the relationship between Xena and Gabby, depicting them as more than just friends.

Happy reading!
