A very prolific day for new fiction tonight!
GENERAL FICTION:
HORSE THIEVES by Lara Zielinsky
A very nice new story that has Xena and Gabrielle going after horse thieves when a certain mare of their mutual acquaintance comes up missing. This tale is well-written and presents a very committed, loyal depiction of the friendship between warrior and bard.

HISTORY CAST IN AMBER by Lara Zielinsky
A long and simply *SPECTACULAR* story which begins as a seemingly simple tale with Xena and Gabrielle on a mission to stop an army of slavers led by an ex-lieutenant of the Warrior Princess. They will be joined by another figure from Xena's past but as the struggle against the slavers begins a dark god will make his presence known - a god who having owned Xena's heart once will do anything to try to recapture it - dismissing in his zest, the determination of a young bard to protect the friend she loves or the lengths to which she'll go for the warrior. Covering some of the most crucial moments in the lives of Xena and Gabrielle and shedding light on the secrets which will form the basis of their legend for ages to come, this story is exceptionally well-crafted, depicting a friendship worthy of the greatest of sacrifices and a nobility of spirit capable of humbling even the gods on Mt. Olympus. An exceptional tale which I VERY HIGHLY RECOMMEND!!

THE SEARCH FOR THAT WHICH IS by Erika Bwo
A follow-up to Erika's beautiful story THE LANGUAGE OF POTEIDAIA (review at https://lunacyreviews.ausxip.com/general.htm), this longer tale has Xena and Gabrielle joining forces with Hercules, Iolus and Autolycus on a mission to try to find the bard's long lost sister. This story is one rousing adventure with lots of humor, action, danger and some tender moments as well. A very nice read.

SEASON OF CHANGE by Hobbes
Chapter seven of this story is now available. Since first appearing on the NetForum some months ago, Hobbes has consistently been delivering excellent fan fiction that just seems to get better and better. This new story may possibly turn out to be her best yet! Set soon after the events shown in the episode THE PRICE, this tale has Xena and Gabrielle struggling with the emotional aftermath of their encounter with the Horde. Xena is dismayed at how easily she reverted to the warlord of old and at her cruel treatment of the bard, while Gabrielle is troubled by the fear he felt seeing Xena in her element - a fear that remains deep inside the young woman. There is a distance between them both want to close but which fate may soon make it difficult to do so as events spiral out of their control plunging the two into a horror even more traumatic than what they experience with the Horde. In this latest chapter Xena tries to be honest with the bard about her feelings. NOTE: This story DOES include violence. Please read the author's disclaimer on this. Previously reviewed 7/19/97.

ALTERNATIVE FICTION:
THE WAGES OF SIN by Mathghamhna
A VERY promising warlord/slave story by a talented new writer! With only two chapters released so far this story has Xena and Gabrielle following a path of destruction carved by the army of a warlord they hope to stop - only the warlord surprises them first. With no other recourse, but to try to convince the man that she is there to do business with him, Xena is forced to assume once again her old role as the Warrior Princess, presenting Gabrielle as her slave. It is a ruse that will either drive the two friends apart...or bring them closer than ever. In these initial installments, the story provides a chilling insight into what life was like for Xena in her days as a warlord. HIGHLY RECOMMENDED!

TWO AND A HALF YEAR ITCH by BlackFox and S. Derkings
The conclusion of this HILARIOUS story is now available. This tale is NOT TO BE MISSED! Just too funny! Set two and a half years after Xena and Gabrielle first meet, the warrior and bard are desperately in love with one another but too stubborn and scared to admit it so Aphrodite's mischievous son Anteros decides to teach the two a lesson - by having them itch in all sorts of places...and then sending them an assortment of other MISERABLE tortures!! This is a VERY different type of hurt/comfort story guaranteed to leave a BIG grin on your face.

MIND'S EYE by Lynka
The concluding chapters 11-16 of this story are now available. This tale has Xena trying to protect Gabrielle from a very frightening threat...but falling victim to a deadly enemy herself. In these final sections, the bard sets out on a desperate rescue attempt. Previously reviewed 6/5/97.

THE BLACK WOLF by Xenia
The concluding chapters of this story are now available. Xena and Gabrielle try to help a village fight a deadly predator. Frightened by the possibility of loosing one another, they begin to admit the feelings they've been hiding. In these final installments, the two discover the truth about the black wolf and then must risk it all to stop the killing spree. This story offers a sweetly passionate depiction of the Xena/Gab relationship.

For those of you reading this post who are not familiar with the term alternative (alt.), it refers to ADULT stories that add a romantic element to the relationship between Xena and Gabby, depicting them as more than just friends.
Happy reading!
