[Previous report was for 8/22/97]
Hi all!

We have a new XWP fan fiction site tonight - PAUL AND JENNA'S XENA FICTION PAGE at: http://members.aol.com/PJSeely/index.html The one story they have there at the moment, SURFACING, is reviewed below.

GENERAL FICTION:

THE VACATION by Eimajj
A beautiful vignette which has Xena contemplating all the ways in which her life has changed since a certain bard made her way into it.

ALTERNATIVE FICTION:

SURFACING by Paul Seely and Jennifer Garza
A very well-written, original new uber-Xena story that will have you spell-bound from chapter one. Set in the present day, it revolves around the mysterious activities of a secret agent going by the name of Diana Starret. On assignment from the shadowy, top-secret organization who once recruited her when she had little choice in the matter, Diana's mission is to keep a dangerous criminal from landing in prison until the full extent of his operation and his connections have been revealed. It is this assignment that leads her to a fateful meeting with a young lawyer named Charlotte Browning. The two women are inexplicably drawn to one another and soon find themselves haunted by the same dream - about a leather-clad warrior drowning in blood and the strawberry blonde trying to save her. As yet unfinished, this intriguing new offering is NOT TO BE MISSED!!

THE TAVERNKEEPER'S SISTER - PART TWO by Ella Quince
This EXCELLENT sequel to Ella's earlier story finds Xena still in the company of the young barmaid who abandoned her home to travel with the warrior just over a week before. Despite the passion they share, a distance remains between the two - a distance Xena knows they will never be able to breach until her young companion can face the truth about her past. Well-written, poignant, and emotional. VERY HIGHLY RECOMMENDED!!

TO TELL THE TRUTH by Georgia
A very cute little story that has Gabrielle trying to be sneaky and getting burned in the process...much to her delight ;-) This one is WILD and sweet. A great effort from a new bard!

GAMES GIRLS PLAY by Ms. Auggie
This is a follow-up to Ms. Auggie's earlier story WALKING AFTER MIDNIGHT which was one of the entries in the Second Xenite Bard Contest. It is a very different tale which has Xena and Gabrielle agreeing to participate in a seemingly harmless game organized by the two brothers who are princes in the city they are visiting. Releasing some of the tension they've recently been under, the warrior and bard embrace the competition with fervor each determined to win and neither suspecting the game could lead to the greatest loss of all... This story has a subtle quality to it that lends emotional impact to the darker moments and a poignant desperation to the romance. Well done!

WARLORD DAZE by Katrina
Chapters 7-8 of this story are now available and guys, this is becoming one HECK OF A GOOD TALE! It is a somewhat different warlord/slave story that will likely get that pulse racing...fast ;-) With Xena in warlord mode once again, a determined Gabrielle enlists the aid of friends to help her get back to the warrior's side the only way it is possible for her to do so - as Xena's personal slave. It is a decision that could bring them closer than ever before but which will also bring challenges and risks neither may be quite ready for. In these latest chapters Xena explains the rules of the game...and then they start playing. Well-written and psychologically intriguing. Note: this story contains light S&M.

THE PELOPONNESIAN WAR - BOOK 2: POTEIDAIA UNDER SIEGE by Baermer
Parts 17-18 of Book 2 in Baermer's epic war saga are now available. Having decided to stand with the people of Poteidaia against the Athenian army, Xena and Gabrielle immediately become primary players as the warrior lends the Poteidaians her battle expertise and the bard works to rekindle in her people their sense of community and hope. Even as they try to help the beleaguered villagers, Xena and Gabrielle struggle also against personal challenges as they confront the bard's family for the first time since becoming a couple and begin to suspect that they may be pawns in a very dangerous battle between immortals. In these latest sections love works miracles and survives when all else seems lost. This story is exceedingly well-written with an well-structured plot, great characterizations and a romance as epic as the historic events being depicted. Note that this tale is available in both subtext-explicit and subtext-lite versions. VERY HIGHLY RECOMMENDED!! First reviewed 8/8/97.

For those of you reading this post who are not familiar with the term alternative (alt.), it refers to ADULT stories that add a romantic element to the relationship between Xena and Gabby, depicting them as more than just friends.

Happy reading!
