MONDAY FAN FICTION REPORT - 8/4/97

Hey guys!

Tonight I'm reporting on a piece located at the Clan MacGab's Web site. The Clan MacGab is a group dedicated to the adoration of the Gabster :) Their main Web site is at:

Here are three great new stories and two updates.
GENERAL FICTION:

THE HOLY WAR by ProudWarrioress
Chapter 7 of this story is now available. ProudWarrioress newest tale is a novel which inspired by THE PRICE goes way beyond the episode in terms of scope, creating a story of such magnitude and such impact that it can only be described as a saga of epic proportions - a blockbuster of XWP fan fiction. Set after the events in THE PRICE, this novel begins ominously with the thoughts of a warrior as he prepares to go to war - not an ordinary warrior but a leader among men - a warrior getting ready to unleash the greatest terror Greece has ever known as he leads his army on a holy crusade to recover the Chosen One promised long ago to his people - a prophesy Telmark, Supreme Commander of the Horde, is determined to see fulfilled at any cost. It is this new and deadly threat which Xena and Gabrielle find themselves facing when they join the massive army of several allied Greek City states preparing to do battle with the Horde. At the head of the army is Marmax, the commander from the episode IS THERE A DOCTOR IN THE HOUSE who thanks to Xena and the bard found peace for his own people but now must fight a battle for the very survival of Greece. Despite their mounting fears, Xena and Gabrielle agree to help the allied force and soon find themselves in a familiar situation - heavily outnumbered, facing savage Horde warriors - with little hope of survival. For Xena the solution is to start awakening the darkness within herself and to try to make sure Gabrielle is safe but what the Warrior Princess never suspects is that once again she is spending too much time trying to fight the Horde without considering what their motivations could be - what they want...or whom? This story truly has the feel of great film epics like SPARTACUS or the more contemporary BRAVEHEART. The battle scenes are so well-written and so carefully choreographed that they stand out vividly. ProudWarrioress' depiction of the Xena/Gab relationship, as in her other stories, is one of deep friendship, loyalty, sacrifice and unquestionable commitment. She uses a shifting point-of-view technique that gives us a very thorough insight into the minds of both our heroines and their enemy. This story is an experience you will not soon forget. A MUST READ for every Xenite, it carries my HIGHEST RECOMMENDATION!!

ALTERNATIVE FAN FICTION:

THE HUNT FOR RED ULYSSES by James Fadden
A HUGE threat to the well-being of your funny bone, this hilarious XWP parody was posted on some of the XWP mailing lists around the time the episode ULYSSES first aired. It is now finally available through the Web and it is an absolute MUST READ!!. It has the A.N.S. Artemis, a fleet attack submarine belonging to the Amazon Nation, on a search-and-destroy mission to locate and annihilate the Red Ulysses - a serious threat to all-things subtext on XWP! Commanding the proud A.N.S. Artemis is Captain Ephiny with a loyal crew of the finest amazons. No matter what they do, however, the Red Ulysses just seems to keep on - er - coming...SO, the XADIC - The Xenite Air Defense and Innuendo Command decides to call on a certain "Mad Dog" for assistance! This is a GEM guys!! You don't need to have seen the movie which inspired the title either - this stands all on its own! It does get a DO NOT READ AND DRINK warning because you are going to be spilling and chocking on everything in sight! VERY HIGHLY RECOMMENDED!!! Note: This parody is not explicit although it is highly suggestive ;-)

MTYH-FEASANCE AND MYTH DIRECTIONS by Nene Adams
With this third installment in her MYTH series, Nene leaves no doubt as to her exceptional bardic skills...or her downright WICKED sense of humor!! Well-read and incredibly knowledgeable about popular culture, Nene not only parodies XWP in her story but a number of cultural icons as well. Set immediately after the events in AIN'T MYTH-BEHAVING (reviewed 7/26/97), the story has the Warrior Princess and her - "bardie-poo" heading for Amazonia where they plan to go through a joining ceremony. Delays, however, soon result in one unhappy "bardie-poo" prompting Xena to start reciting Wyllam Spear-Shaker. (You have not LIVED 'til you've seen the Warrior Princess reciting Wyllam Spear-Shaker ;-) This foreshadows the additional delays to come as the two meet up with a traveling group of actors who soon join them on their journey, resulting in an even unhappier "bardie-poo" and one FRUSTRATED Warrior Princess. A TERRIFIC story, this tale would be worth reading alone for the look that is included into the workings of Xena and Gabrielle's minds! Rip-roaring stuff guys!! VERY HIGHLY RECOMMENDED!

ARTISTIC LICENSE TO STEAL by Emperor Penguin
FUNNY, well-written little story that has the Warrior and her Bard enjoying a nice rest at a village when they run into an old friend - Salmoneous, right in the midst of a new money-making scheme. This time he's producing plays, specifically one which looks suspiciously familiar to Xena and the Gabster and which they soon decide to
sabotage. ;-)

MIRTH IN HEAVEN by D. Joan Leib
Parts 6-8 of this story are now available. This is a WILD story, as yet unfinished, which has Gabrielle suddenly waking up one morning a "different" person and feeling immediately terrified that a wish from her heart is responsible for the sudden "change". Determined to help the bard, Xena decides to visit an oracle suspecting that the gods are at work but unaware of the unlikely alliance that has formed between immortals as two of the Olympians struggle to keep them safe from an enemy vent on destroying the warrior and her afflicted companion. In these latest installments things come to a head as immortals clash with the power of the human heart...

For those of you reading this post who are not familiar with the term alternative (alt.), it refers to ADULT stories that add a romantic element to the relationship between Xena and Gabby, depicting them as more than just friends.
